Hot and painful

Oh dear i'v just been replying to the post about what's scary about getting older. I said I didn't want to moan about my health and I'm just about to do just that. I noticed yesterday out of the blue that my ankle really hurts. I haven't twisted it. It's no better this morning and my knees hurt and my wrists. My wrists completely collapse if I hold something heavy. More worrying I'm limping and I carnt seem to correct my gait. It's a hot pain that can become excruciating every now and again. The sort that momentarily takes your breath away. I'v had warmish joints for a few years now and just ignored it. I really don't want to go to see my lovely GP so wondered if any of you could throw any light on what's going on. Thanks ( please tell me off if I post too many of this type of post)

Well I did go to see my doctor. I have to have blood tests to see if it's some sort of rheumatoid arthritis. But she also talked me through the fact that it can be a mixture of things. Wear and tear that impacts on soft tissue that can be painful and cause swelling. She explained that you need to keep moving but not put too much pressure on the painful bits. Typically it's not too bad on the day I could go blush I picked up my asthma precription while I was there and it couldn't be filled in the surgery. I had to take it to my supermarket. I wasn't even asked if I had to pay for my prescriptions. Up til now i'v managed to fool myself into thinking I didn't look 60+.....obviously wrongly

I never have been asked to pay for prescriptions since turning 60. I mentioned it in the pharmacy one day and was told that they didn't need to ask as my DOB is on the prescription. I knew it was, I did feel foolish.

My BiL has just been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. He is in his late 50's. He was very suprised as there is no family history of it.

(Galen I had that and it turned out to be caused by a new and stiff clutch pedal in the car - cured by using my heel on the pedal for a while, my diagnosis! Gout test negative....)

Kiora Go and see the doctor you like!
