Two days ago I began to experience a painful, shooting pain on the outside and just under the heel of my left foot. It doesn't hurt to stand on it, it hurts when I move it to walk. I haven't caught it or twisted it as far as I know. Any ideas.

My DH had this recently and was advised to get a support for under his heel.It was £20 but well worth it as it soon eased the pain. If it isn't advertising it was a Scholls product.

OK thanks, I have had problem with achillies heel before but this is different and in a different place, Will try the support, in fact I think I have a pair.

Sorry I should have said it was Plantar Fasciitis((sp).

I had Plantar fasciitis about twenty years ago. At its worst it felt like I was walking on an open wound. Acupuncture helped a great deal and it eventually cleared up. I also wore achilles tendon supports which helped because I have fallen arches.

I felt as if I was walking on marbles. The strange thing about it was the way the pain came and went. Arch supports and exercise worked for me but someone I knew that was told she had plantar fascitis bythe doctor bought arch supports and then was told that she didn't have it at all. I've just, finally, after a ten month wait had my appointment at orthotics and I'm having special insoles made, one deeper than the other cause my legs are different lengths. I nearly cancelled the appointment because of the long wait [and the original pain had gone] but I'm glad I went now. I told the person I saw that my foot was better but could she do something about the pain in my hip and she said that she had noticed that I walked with a limp shock and that the insoles will help. Trouble is, you sort out one part of your body and it put another bit out.

Exactly Tegan. I have had plantar fasciitis for several months. The physio says because my feet pronate (flat and roll in), and I have connective tissue problems, I'm more likely to get it. It's not pleasant, but I have orthotics that help. The physio recommended various exercises, as well as two bowls of water from the tap, one hot, one cold, soak the feet alternately. Believe it or not, the relief is wonderful.
