Of acute pulmonary oedema, we have just heard.
She hadn't seen her consultant for four years for her kidney condition
She probably wasn't taking her potassium pills.
We didn't know she was risking her life. She probably didn't.
.....and I am really angry.

There is a black hole in the middle of our family.

But what I really want to say is that although the condition she had is very rare (Gitelman's Syndrome, if you want to look it up) that I have found there is a similar risk in people with heart conditions who are taking some diuretics.

We should have known that she was at risk. From what I find, this is only recently realised by the medical profession about GS patients - there may be only 1500 in Britain. I don't know if heart patients are warned.
I feel this should be better known.

Snap, Alie, the clutch on my car is on its way out. I keep putting off taking it to the garage. You surely have enough on your mind, so I hope they find a decent, usable Golf for you. Glad your friend is back soon.

"One day at a time sweet Jesus" springs to mind Alie - a lovely song (and I don't mean to be religious) but just think this is very apt for you at this moment in your life. Glad your friend is home shortly. Virtual friends are great but a real in your face one is so much better. cupcake

Yes, one whole day at a time waiting to see a damn car. The garage haven't managed to get it to me yet.
Basically stuck here waiting and I need to go to Abingdon to get my mobile sorted. Can't get to Oxford either.
Hearing very little from K which is worrying, he's depressed too.

Not expecting much of this day either......

Luckygirl Thu 02-Jul-15 10:26:12

I am so sorry that you are having problems with your car on top of everything else - it must feel like the last straw. I am rooting for you.

kittylester Thu 02-Jul-15 10:35:36

(((Hugs))). You can do without Sod and his flipping law at the moment!

AlieOxon Thu 02-Jul-15 11:22:57

It's not only the last straw it's very awkward indeed!
I am STILL waiting to hear from the garage.
However I have decided that if I don't get to see this car today, that's it!

I phoned some people about my dropping out of doing the cash for my Art group (U3A) and did get a helpful talk, with a chance to tell stuff....they are religious but didn't push it .....including an offer to give me a lift to look at other cars. Gives me more options.

(On a lighter note, I went up the garden to empty my compost bucket and all over the garden was a very strong smell of cannabis smoke. I have never smelt it here! No idea where it was from - and by the way I don't smoke - anything.)

Grannyknot Thu 02-Jul-15 11:31:29

alie I also seem to have acquired some neighbours who smoke 'waccy baccy' - sometimes early in the day hmm

flowers for getting through each day.

Luckygirl Thu 02-Jul-15 11:33:15

I am delighted that there is some help forthcoming with the car search - just what you needed.

AlieOxon Thu 02-Jul-15 11:33:51

I'm making a guess who is upwind.....

AlieOxon Thu 02-Jul-15 11:54:16

Thanks Lucky and everyone else who is helping here

AlieOxon Thu 02-Jul-15 12:15:35

Garage rang and have now divulged that this car they have is an S reg....this is not an improvement on my present Skoda - which has been very good...but is senile
So I told them no.

So - I shall ask for lifts to get places to see other cars! and perhaps in Abingdon where I could deal with the phone too.

AlieOxon Thu 02-Jul-15 12:35:14

I feel so relieved at being free of waiting for the garage!

FarNorth Thu 02-Jul-15 12:43:23

I'm so glad you were able to talk to that person and that they have offered lifts.
((hugs)) and flowers to you

AlieOxon Thu 02-Jul-15 18:05:32

Hopefully I should get a lift tomorrow to the garage where there seem to be some cars at the right price.....

This has been a really frustrating week. And as a result I need to speak to a doctor tomorrow, this being Friday....I hope the times will work out!
(colitis is a stress-related condition....)

petallus Thu 02-Jul-15 21:27:50

I hope you find a good car. When I got mine recently I decided on the make and then went to an appropriate garage and picked one. I didn't think there was much point in messing about. It has turned out alright.

I have been wondering how your grandchildren are getting on.

AlieOxon Fri 03-Jul-15 12:45:24

Seeing cars hopefully after 2pm.
Perhaps an end to this isolation and not being able to get to Oxford....

M is involved in moving house and not very available but we talked last night....intending a boat trip (ie I don't have to walk!) on river next week, hope it works out, sounds like a break.

Doctor says I can start on the steroid pills if necessary...see how it goes... I like it being left to me, will try not to, and seeing other doctor on Monday.

AlieOxon Fri 03-Jul-15 17:31:16

I think I got a car, a Vauxhall Corsa - but not until the middle of next week.

Luckygirl Fri 03-Jul-15 18:18:48

When we bought our last car, the garage brought it to us to look at and test drive.

AlieOxon Fri 03-Jul-15 18:41:18

Yeah...that's what the first garage were supposed to do.
This time I looked online and found a garage with a lot of cars in the right price range, got a lift there.

Wish I had it now though.

AlieOxon Fri 03-Jul-15 20:55:55

I want to get to Oxford and see the family. Too isolated .

Luckygirl Fri 03-Jul-15 21:17:20

I hope that you can resolve the car situation so that you can get to see your family.

AlieOxon Sat 04-Jul-15 11:09:11

Might get car Tues. lunchtime....

AlieOxon Sat 04-Jul-15 13:55:00

Guess what I just did, went shopping and left my key, locked myself out.
- how to make life worse.....

I am in again with help of neighbours, very glad it was Saturday and they weren't at work!

Luckygirl Sat 04-Jul-15 14:06:09

Just the sort of thing I am always doing - and my family. The reason my DD has no car at present is because she lost one of the keys, then broke the other (shut it in the door I think!) and is having to wait 3 weeks for new ones.

AlieOxon Sat 04-Jul-15 19:24:34

Actually this worked like a 'last straw' and I was quite upset about it......
There I was with heavy shopping and - no key!

The whole thing left me very tired.
