What do you do when...

I have had this now for five weeks Jingl.Complete with catarrh and cough.Grotty I know, and very unsocial. also feel exhausted most of the time.Have had antibiotics and also taking antihistamines, nothing seems to shake it, and I know of other people who have it for same length of time.I think we need some hot weather.

Yes. Think you're right about the weather. roses. Not much chance of getting it today though. Looks more like March out there than June.

This is my third week and I'm beginning to feel more human. Horrible anti social cough, swollen glands and phlegm by the gallon.

It's going around where I live. I think I've smashed it now (my sons words) but if it's not completely better by next week I'm off to the docs.

Hope you feel better soon, jingl. I had a similar virus back in February and it seemed to take forever to shift. If it's any consolation I had a big burst of returning energy when it finally buggered off departed so don't worry about the plants - just keep 'em watered.

The house won't die if it doesn't get hoovered.

I'm in the same boat - I have been coughing for England for many weeks - trying a steroid inhaler at the moment. The cough will be OK for hours and then a sudden bout arrives. In between I feel OK, but tired.

I have lost count of the others who have said the same thing - it must be a particular bug. It's a pain in the rear and I hope you are back on top form soon.

How odd. I'm typing this from my bed! I've felt ill for about 3 weeks now. The worst part is the sore throat. I keep saying I'm going to the Doctors and then I get a good day and think I'm ok. But yesterday I was floored, hence, in bed now.
I was so desperate last night I started reading stuff on line and convinced myself I have Glandular fever!! Well I could have, couldn't i ?
Only joking.

jingl viruses can take a long time to shift.
If the house really needs cleaning, and it's really bugging you, get a firm in who will do a one-off.
If it doesn't, and it's not really bugging you, ignore it.
Eat a little bit of anything you do fancy, nothing you feel you ought to eat. Get stuff online if your DH can't be trusted with a shopping list.
Drink plenty of water.
If you feel like doing something, do just a bit of it, enough to make you feel you've done something, but not enough to exhaust yourself.

You can't imagine how many illnesses I have diagnosed myself with. But I know it's only a virus.

After 3 weeks, I seemed to be feeling better, then about four days later it returned( but not by popular request!)Another 2 weeks on and it's still here.

I hope you all are feeling better soon , I haven't been ill at all but I have this blasted dry cough , its been bothering me for 3/4 wks now I have Simple Linctus from the chemist which stops me coughing , I can go a whole day with nothing and then my throat goes dry and I'm hacking away , so annoying on the bus this morning good job I remembered some lozenges. Pity is I have a doctors app on Monday for liver function results and for him to check out a patch of skin on my nose again, the surgery say you should make a separate app for each ailment and not save them up to mention them all during your allotted 10mins. Now not sure whether to mention it or not when i go on Monday...I know they say if somethings been bothering you for 3wks you should see your GP.

I've had it too and it's a bit of a b****r. As people have said, it keeps coming back just when you think you're better. If it's any consolation, it gets weaker each time it come back. I've had a bit of an iffy week but have coped better than the previous twice!! tonic of course!!

I would mention it Tanith. This one ailment to one appointment is probably practise practice, but I bet the individual doctors don't mind too much. Seems silly otherwise doesn't it. And what happened to your doctor looking after you as a whole!

What a total waste of time this one ailment one appointment is, both for the doctor and the patient. If I am lucky enough to see a doctor and have more than one thing worrying me, I tell him/her, I am after all sitting there in the chair and he/she will only have to fill in the computer related information on the one occasion. If I start to mention another thing wrong, will they immediately turn you out of the surgery?

I haven't heard of this 'one ailment per appointment' rule
Certainly doesn't apply at my surgery otherwise DH would take up an hour's worth!

It came up on the screen in my surgery when I was there the other day. (Those information screens encourage a lot of stuff like this. )

We don't have anything like that at ours, too small a practice but it does mean we have an excellent service.

My Doctor stood up and ushered me out when I mentioned another ailment , I never got back to him about it !

Mine always asks me if there's anything else...

But ours is quite a small, friendly practice too.
