I am struggling with a cold which has now lasted over 3 weeks. My long-suffering (while I have been long-snuffling) DH has kindly made me my favourite chicken and noodle dish which always makes me feel a millions times better. What are your go-to dishes for when you're feeling under the weather? I go completely off alcohol whereas my DH swears by his hot toddies (and some) wink

Fish and chips.

Matella Wed 09-Dec-15 17:39:08

Purple sprouting and gravy with anything!

M0nica Wed 09-Dec-15 18:04:36

Steak & kidney pudding

Home made chicken and vegetable broth. Works absolute wonders for me. DH can't stand it so he sticks to whisky toddy, too!

My poorly meal is scrambled eggs on toast . When I was having chemo it was potato and swede mashed together with lots of gravy .

grannylyn65 Sun 10-Jan-16 15:00:13

Boiled eggs!

Tomato soup with granary bread toast.

Iam64 Sun 10-Jan-16 18:15:13

mashed potato with lots of butter and occasionally, cheese (well ok then, not occasionally, it's a must, as is loads of lurpak)

Falconbird Sun 10-Jan-16 20:00:51

Iam64 - that's my comfort food as well. If I'm feeling tired or not too well I use Smash and ready grated cheese, but for me it's Flora.

Heinz chicken soup, crusty bread with proper butter :-))

Galen Sun 10-Jan-16 20:27:30

Spaghetti hoops on toast

Galen Sun 10-Jan-16 20:28:54

Or, Heinz tomato soup with toast and lashings of salty butter.

Bellanonna Sun 10-Jan-16 20:38:18

Both of those Galen but must have a good sprinkling of black pepper.

Bellanonna Sun 10-Jan-16 20:39:05

Oh no, not salty butter. Love unsalted

grannyqueenie Sun 10-Jan-16 22:32:41

Hot Ribena if I have cold, strange as I can't stand blackcurrant cordial at any other time. Oh and kitty I think we may be married to the same man! confused

merlotgran Sun 10-Jan-16 22:39:34

A mug of Bovril with some crusty bread (no butter)

Grannyqueenie have you tried the Ribena Winter Spice limited edition> It's fabulous for making you feel better - I'm currently nursing a chest infection and have a big glass beside me right now - has to be hot of course, but it is lovely and very comforting! Have only found it in Sainsburys round here. That apart I tend to want buttered wholemeal toast if I'm poorly - my mum used to give me that as a child if I wasn't well and had to stay in bed!

MadMaisie Mon 11-Jan-16 10:03:49

Boiled egg and toast or tomato soup (but it has to be Heinz).

Teacher11 Mon 11-Jan-16 10:19:30

Digestives and Weetabix.

Cosafina Mon 11-Jan-16 11:37:23

What my mum called Baby Egg: this was simply a piece of bread and butter cut into squares and then mixed with a chopped up soft boiled egg.

And I know I'm not feeling well when I crave chicken soup, which I'll then have with a roll and butter.

JackyB Mon 11-Jan-16 11:45:57

Egg custard, if I'm really ill. Nice and warm - microwave is quickest.

Or semolina or rice pudding, warm, soft and sweet, whatever it is.

My poorly food follows in the footsteps of my mother and nan, crab or smoked salmon sandwiches, plus for me it's homemade chicken broth, or hot marmite drink and dry crackers. For a cold it's hot lemon, honey and a nip of whisky (supermarkets own).

luluaugust Mon 11-Jan-16 12:30:43

Scrambled egg on toast.
