Urine infections

Yes, a few weeks ago I had precisely the same as yourself. Even after the second lot of antibiotics, I still had symptoms but slowly, with extra fluid intake, I returned to normal. Please try not to think that it is anything sinister- you have done the correct thing and seen your GP who is monitoring you very well.

I agree with Charley and would add that last time I had a utility the gp joked that I was handing him a bottle of risen.

I understand your paranoia, as I'm two years on from ovarian cancer. I'm sending you massive virtual hugs [[[]]] and I have everything crossed for you that it's simply an infection. Does you doctor know you can't sleep? I take something to help me sleep when it gets to me.

Bloody phone (and I don't proof read!) I have a utility room but it doesn't generally look like Ribena or even risen. My last sample looked like Ribena.

I had a similar experience last year - i couldn't see any blood and the urine test was a routine test for another condition, but after a course of trimethaprin and another test, it was still there, so gp sent me for a bladder camera, which showed nothing but a healthy bladder. My niece had an almost identical experience and there was nothing wrong with her either. So please try not to worry - i'm sure you're in good hands

I had a cystoscopy camera test, very quick and painless, less so for men, of course! Nothing like a colonoscopy.
I hope yours is as straightforward as mine was.

I've had a cystoscopy too a few years ago. It was uncomfortable because I had to have a full bladder. I've proof read this one!

If you can let yourself relax as much as possible, it should be just momentary discomfort and then a doddle. Soon over.

There was a cream or spray first to desensitise the area. I was chatting away throughout and hardly noticed it, was pleasantly surprised to be told it was done! Good luck, with both the procedure and the result.

I`ve been suffeing UTIs off and on, mostly on, for several years. I`ve been prescribed several different remedies, none of them very effective, I was still getting up 6 or 7 times a night.Then just about a year ago, the practice nurse informed me that there was a treatment available, in capsule form, but it was a permanent thing, one each day for good. I had one month`s supply of Nitrofurentoin, it was a flipping miracle! But I had to go for a kidney scan before I could keep on taking it. The scan came out OK, and I`ve been on Nitrofurentoin ever since, I hope they never take them off me, I`ll fight `em for it!

Thank you all of you! And Numberplease- I don't blame you- I would hold on to them too! I will find out tomorrow whether or not I will have the cystoscopy, but if I do after all your messages I feel a lot less apprehensive about it. Thanks!

GG62 - I'm a worrier, like you. My mum (another worrier) used to say 'today is the day we worried about yesterday, and all is well', which is quite comforting when you think about it. I'm convinced it is only those of us
blessed with a good imagination who can worry for England. There are a lot of worriers in my family, particularly the little boys for some reason. Good luck with your visit to the GP. I bet you'll be fine and you'll wonder why on earth you worried so much.

I've suffered from urine infections on and off for many years and like you my last but one didnt clear up with Trimethaprim so they gave me Furodantin (may have spelled that wrong!) as it was caused by e-coli. This is quite common apparently so don't panic. Since then I've had another which did clear up with Trimethaprim. I asked the dr if I could have a 'standby' dose to keep in case it flared up again as it always sems to happen at the most inconvenient time. Just having that packet of pills has given me peace of mind. Try not to worry as this won't help. But if it doesn't clear up be persistant and get yourself checked out. Best of luck.

GG62 It sounds like you've had a stressful time lately and these infections have added to your anxieties. So sorry to hear about your husband.

I have had several urinary infections recently, which cause sudden urgency in going to the loo. There is apparently no particular reason for it.

I hope some of the comments on here have put your mind at rest and that you soon feel much better.

I had dark coloured urine just before Christmas which frightened the life out of me. After doctor tested a sample he assured me there was no blood but was at loss what caused the colour. Have since had a scan and it appears I have gallstones and one maybe blocking the duct which is probably causing dark urine. My liver function was compromised too. Waiting to see specialist but having gallbladder removed looks likely. I'm terrified at the thought of an operation. I'm relieved liver isn't the problem as doc thinks this will settle down once gallbladder is sorted. Can anyone out there give me some reassurance.

You should be aware that serious UTIs can cause delusions. This affected my MIL and she thought my DH was my (long dead) FIL. My own dear Mum is in hospital currently afflicted by this amongst other things and is being zapped with very powerful doses of antibiotics which we hope will cure her.

If you have had UTIs do warn your nearest and dearest that you could appear to go do-lalley and will need powerful antibiotics not men in white coats to cart you off!

By coincidence I am in the midst of a UTI at the moment. Last night I had to phone 111 at 10.30pm when I suddenly passed very heavily blood stained urine. I was also in considerable pain whilst doing so. I had had no symptoms at all prior to this episode and it was quite frightening. The 111 operator asked a number of basic questions and about an hour later a clinician phoned me back. Following further questioning, she decided that I couldn't be left overnight, so 20 min later I had a call from a doctor in my local hospital. At 2am I was in hospital where I was given a course of Nitrofurantoin and advised to make an apt with my GP for a follow up. I was back home by 2.30am. I didn't sleep a wink and was up & down to the toilet every hour, but I am happy to report that I am feeling much better and the 'Ribena' is now 'pink' champagne! I will see my GP tomorrow. God bless the NHS!

I am on antibiotics for a Urine infection. I have been feeling the urge to wee for a while and having to get up in the night several times.
I also have lower abdominal pain and dark cloudy urine.
The Doctor did not confirm I had an infection she tested my sample and sent some off for Lab tests, but then she said she wants blood tests this week and has booked a scan for my womb and ovaries.

This has scared me to death because it could be Ovarian cancer?
She did say she has to refer me because I mentioned lower abdominal pain and my daughter said it will because of my age (62)
Is this routine? I started the antibiotics yesterday and I still have frequent visits to the loo and discomfort on the outside of my Urethra.
Of course, I have Googled symptoms, I know its stupid,..but it all points to Ovarian cancer.
