Urine infections

Any advice or comfort? I had a urine infection last week. Went to my GP and she said I had bacteria and blood present in my urine. She gave me 3 day supply of antibiotics and asked me to come back the following week to do another urine test primarily to make sure the blood had gone. I did that, but there was still a trace so she has given me a week's supply of a different antibiotic. She will ring me on Thursday to give me the precise lab result. My problem is that I'm terrified that it is cancer. My husband had bladder cancer 14 years ago,it was terrible. He had his bladder removed. 3 months ago he was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and I know that this could be causing my present state of paranoia. I can't sleep and can't think about the prospect of me getting ill as well. I do a lot of the Childcare for my daughter and I'm just so worried all the time. Have any other Grans experienced urine infections that weren't sinister?

Never, ever google your symptoms, you will only see the words that scare you. Abdominal pain is common with urinary infections and the GP is probably following guidelines.

Don't jump to conclusions! I know it's hard not to but recently I thought I had bladder cancer. It wasn't. Just an excellent GP who didn't want to miss anything. Your daughter is right, once you hit 60 doctors are much more likely to send us off for tests. It's much more likely to be an infection. Why else would you be given antibiotics.
Hoping to hear soon that all is well.

I made the mistake of buying an over the counter remedy for a mild case of cystitis. After two doses I couldn't get off the toilet. Turns out the same medication is used as a laxative!

Thanks,.. I think I have health anxiety if anything! I will wait and see and stop googling!

Following an episode of blood stained urine, I saw my GP and I have had blood tests and a cystoscopy and I have appointments for an ultrasound scan and a CT scan next week. I have no symptoms now, I hope that they are just being vigilant.
