That's all really. It's been getting me down lately.

kittylester Sat 28-May-16 22:05:54

Extremely gentle (((hugs))) from me too bags Would buying the boots help at all?

Anya Sat 28-May-16 22:09:45

I had an unbearably painful knee after our fire when we moved into rented accommodation with killer stairs a few months ago. So I really, really sympathise with those who are suffering. It can be relentless and soul destroying. Nkt surprised you have a wobble.

Hope you get some relief soon.

TriciaF Sat 28-May-16 22:37:13

So sorry about your pain, Thatbags, hope it eases soon.
Husband has bad leg pain at the moment and it makes him so irritable,he won't take anything for it.

Thatbags Poor you.I know you have been putting up with this for years but things must be really getting you down. You are usually very stoic about this. Big ((((hugs)))

Hope you do get some relief soon. As others have said, maybe warmer weather may help flowers

granjura Sun 29-May-16 09:26:59

My sil who lives in Surrey intends to go and spend 3 months in a warmer country next winter- and I can totally understand that. I can still hear my mother saying her knees were sore when the weather was changing, and me laughing, saying 'don't be silly mummy, that can't make any difference' - oh yes, it does!

Yes, hope you had a good night's sleep and feel much better today x

whitewave Sun 29-May-16 09:40:55

How are you doing this morning bags?

Judthepud2 Sun 29-May-16 10:07:47

I hate being in pain. It makes me very irritable. Luckily for me, that is not the case at the moment. So flowers to you thatbags and all other GNs suffering from chronic pain. And you don't have to be heroes all the time. There is no harm in having a good moan when you feel overwhelmed.

Opelessgran15 Sun 29-May-16 11:01:36

It's a bummer thatbags, I have every sympathy, waiting for a knee op myself, so I do understand about what a misery the pain can be. What I will say ( and I don't know your exact circumstances, so I may need to be forgiven for this!) is that I find knee exercises help enormously. Our doctors practice have a physio attached , and they sent me for physiotherapy at the height of my pain for six sessions ( agony, but it did help) , then a knee exercise class for 4 weeks (painful at the start, but it really did help) Since then, I have looked on Arthritis Research UK, under arthritis information, there is a section on 'Exercises to manage pain' knees, neck etc. I do the seven knee exercises at least every other day, and they have at lease kept me much more mobile. It sounds like you have fibromyalgia too, so it may not be possible to exercise? The site has lots of other info, downloadable leaflets etc, so it may help you - or others reading this- in other ways. But pain is bloody miserable, debilitating and depressing some days, exercise or no exercise. I blame genetics and years of aerobics in the 70's and 80's ( b. Jane Fonda!!).

Never used to be a sun worshipper till old age brought arthritis with it. Don't go abroad much these days, though, but go to the sauna/steam room at the local leisure centre and feel much better for getting some warmth into my body.

granjura Sun 29-May-16 12:45:55

So true- booked a week to help with my knee, with a warm pool, sauna and steam room- only to be told on arrival it was closed for refurb. Furious doens't describe how I felt! Grrr.

I read an article this morning which said they are doing trails in Saudi Arabia where the are taking fat from the patients own body and injecting it into the problem area.
They said the results will be published in the British Medical Journal in December.

Grannyknot Sun 29-May-16 15:26:58

I believe (from a recent lecture I attended) that long-term chronic pain is a whole other ball game. I got the impression that the pain takes on almost a life of its own, becoming a "constant companion".

I wish I could wave a magic wand ...

And I hope there's respite from it for bags and others ....

Christinefrance Sun 29-May-16 16:26:56

Yes I saw the article about taking fat etc, let's hope something works for chronic pain soon. I also have plantar fasciitis whilst not serious is painful and draining. The compression sock I am wearing at the moment is sooo attractive.

moomin Sun 29-May-16 16:32:51

Sorry to hear this bags, hope you'll have some improvement soon. Relentless pain is hard to bear flowers

wot Sun 29-May-16 17:09:17

Disgraceful|! I hope you can get some recompense.

Yogadatti Sun 29-May-16 17:15:57

I am in constant pain from neuropathy. The burning pain my foot and leg makes it horrendous to walk even a little way. And of course no cure , just medication that isn't
even for it and doesn't really work. Chronic pain is something that no one can understand until they have it. Ruins everything in life completely.

Moocow Sun 29-May-16 17:35:00

flowers from anither who knows how it drags you down, and can offer nothing more than sympathy.

thatbags Sun 29-May-16 18:23:09

Thank you again, everybody. I've had a good day today. Went out walking gently with a friend and it has been a glorious sunny, warm day. sunshine I think my knee knew how fed up I'd been with it for the last few days. At any rate it has behaved a bit better today, thank goodness. Had a good night's sleep too, didn't wake up at all for the loo, which I usually do at least once.

Thanks also for the tips about exercises. I'll certainly check those out and maybe try some. I might ask at the GP practice for physio advice too, next time I'm there.

As anno suggested, sharing probably helps somewhat. Gransnet proves its worth once again! You are all much appreciated smile

thatbags Sun 29-May-16 18:25:42

Sending my sympathies to all you others who are in constant pain flowers

That research sounds most interesting, petra. Let's hope the trials are successful and it can become widespread treatment!

granjura Sun 29-May-16 18:41:58

So glad to hear you had a much better night and day x
