Very annoyed with myself...had fab weekend at the wedding but home one day and I've got a nasty tummy bug. Just staggered out of the loo after being sick, it's not fair is it? Seems like some sort of celestial payback! DH has just made me a cuppa, feeling very sorry for myself. <sigh>

you sure its a tummy bug Kaytek and not something youve eaten? wishing you a speedy recovery.

DaphneBroon Tue 09-Aug-16 20:29:31

Surely a tummy ug is "something you have eaten"??

Elenkalubleton Tue 09-Aug-16 20:42:46

No don't think so Daphne, they can be airborne viruses .

DaphneBroon Tue 09-Aug-16 21:00:24

STOMACH VIRUSFOOD POISONING
CausePassed by a virus that attacks the intestines; you catch it by coming in contact with someone who is infected, or by touching something he or she has touched. This virus can also be passed on through contaminated food or water. You get it by eating contaminated food that contains infectious organisms, bacteria (like E. coli), viruses, or parasites.
Symptoms
Watery diarrhea
Nausea and/or vomiting
Abdominal cramps
Fever
Muscle aches
Headache
Symptoms appear one to two days after exposure to the virus and usually last for one to two days but can last for up to 10 days.
Abdominal pain, which can be quite severe
Loss of appetite
Watery diarrhea
Nausea and/or vomiting
Fever
Fatigue
Symptoms can show up within hours of eating contaminated food, but exposure to certain contaminants may not cause symptoms until a few weeks later. Sickness lasts from one to 10 days.
Complications
Dehydration (caused by excessive vomiting and diarrhea)
Dehydration (caused by excessive vomiting and diarrhea)
Exposure to certain types of bacteria may prove fatal to unborn babies
Certain strains of E. coli can cause kidney failure
Method of diagnosisA doctor will ask about your symptoms or take a stool sample. If they see bacteria, they know it's not a bug.A doctor will ask you questions about food you've eaten and how long you've felt symptoms and will perform tests such as checking your blood and stool. She may also check for parasites.
Treatment
Rest
Replace lost fluids
Gradually begin to eat bland foods such as toast, rice, and potatoes.
Avoid dairy products, caffeine, spicy foods, and fatty foods.
Replace lost fluids
If symptoms are severe, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics.
PreventionAvoid coming in contact with an infected person or anything he or she has touched. Wash your hands thoroughly and often, especially before you eat and after you use machines at the gym. Don't share personal items like cups, utensils, or towels.Keep your hands, cooking surfaces, and utensils clean. Keep hot food hot and cold food cold. Throw out food that has been sitting out or foods you're not sure about. Cook foods safely and thoroughly. For more tips, check out this post on preventing food poisoning.

That's very comprehensive, I'm laid up with a bad hip, tried heat pad, voltarol ibropofam. over a week now,saw Doctor yesterday started naproxen. Feeling mentally low now.Got wedding Friday,(close friends son) Any advice appreciated.

DaphneBroon Tue 09-Aug-16 21:15:48

Are you taking Omeprazole with your Naproen to protect your stomach? Essential IMO.

Elenkalubleton Tue 09-Aug-16 21:21:57

Yes

DaphneBroon Tue 09-Aug-16 21:46:57

Good, Naproxen is very very good. Hope you feel the benefit very soon. smile

DaphneB Oh, do wish I hadn't just read your long list....am feeling a bit nauseous now.grin
poor you Katek get well soon.?

Katek Tue 09-Aug-16 22:14:59

Thanks for good wishes - am about to try a rich tea biscuit with bedtime cuppa....fingers crossed! . Don't think it's anything I've eaten, ate same as others at wedding (veg option) and they're ok, don't do dairy either. DS had sickness bug five days before we met up last week, not sure about incubation period but I'll blame him anyway! Have stopped feeling cold and shivery so that's an improvement.

Katek Tue 09-Aug-16 22:20:05

Elen, session with good physio might be beneficial, they can do wonders. If that's not an option try using BioFreeze or Polarfrost on hip. Cold often works better than heat when things are inflamed.

Luckygirl Tue 09-Aug-16 22:21:36

Grim stuff a vomity bug - hope you'll be better soon.

Indinana Tue 09-Aug-16 22:25:07

Oh poor you. It's horrid isn't it? Afraid to leave the loo, but feeling exhausted and just wanting to crawl into bed. Do hope you're over it very soon and feeling much better.

harrigran Tue 09-Aug-16 23:03:16

If you have a tummy bug there is a good chance a high percentage of wedding guests will be suffering too, some bugs take 36 hours to show symptoms. Another reason I dislike large functions, you are at the mercy of the hygiene of waiters and other food handlers. With a compromised immune system I have to protect myself from these bugs.

Katek Wed 10-Aug-16 08:47:53

Head like pound of mince this morning but managed a reasonable sleep......however DH is now feeling queasy. Of course he's feeling much worse than I was!! Quiet day methinks.

harrigran-good point about large functions, I presume a lot of guests may blame alcohol consumption for their state of health rather than hygiene! My immune system isn't brilliant either due to frequent steroid/antibiotic use for asthma, I've just finished a steroid burst yesterday in fact. Nothing compared to effects of chemo I realise-hope all is going well with your treatment smile

I'm sorry to say that wedding reception food (and food at similar occasions ) is one of the most common sources of food poisoning. So I don't think you are paying for the good with bad, OP, it's just one of those things.

Katek Wed 10-Aug-16 11:50:59

Dgs-also a wedding guest-came down with same symptoms last night and dd feeling a tad off colour today. We're dropping like flies!!

Bez1989 Wed 10-Aug-16 19:54:30

Hope you are all better soon. Rotten feeling I know. flowers
