Using initials instead of full words

I always write out the full words - I think it's just as easy to do and easier to understand.

No I'm not a big fat lady, I'm a big fat bloke. However the name WB's has a
different origin related to my last job. I have already explained it on other threads.

Oh, sorry. I think I'm guilty of the ASD's (autism spectrum disorder) and XLI (x - linked ichthyosis). It's just that two of my grandson's have both conditions, and the other one is free of ichthyosis but does have autism. As a family we speak of ASD's and XLI as it is so familiar to us. I tend to forget that everyone else may struggle to know what they mean. I like the input from the men, I wish there were more brave enough to join.

Yes. Easy enough on here. Harder in the wider world (radio presenters, politicians, health experts, etc etc) It's everywhere these days.

It's easy to work out usually on here, I never found it to be a problem, and it does save time.

I used to be a community representative on a public body wich included representatives of statutory bodies (e.g. housing trust, probation service, fire and rescue) and they would continually talk in acronyms which were gobbledygook to the ordinary members. I would be sitting trying to figure out what the acronym stood for and miss completely what they were talking about! Eventually I asked for a glossary of acronyms to be provided at the start of meetings for those of us who were not familiar with them and thankfully that helped a lot.

The acronyms become second nature eventually. It's something that has been like it since the beginning.

I m with you all the way peaseblossom I really really dislike the acronyms and don't have the sort of brain that can read the post without internally translating them all which is tedious and sometimes have to look them up I especially dislike all the dears or darlings as unnecessary there that's me getting my flak jacket out and hiding behind the settee
I like having granddads on board, bring us more, I cant tell the difference by the names anyway

If they were sucsessful, it was definitely me, if not, it was the other bloke. And, yes I can load a dishwasher, my problem is that I then forget to switch it on.

I find the initials annoying too Peaseblossom, but do like the fact that there is no gender bias .

It's vaguely a 'being of that sort of age' thing not about grannies. I love the men and wish we had more of them.

Not only are there grandads on here but some of us (well me anyway) are not even parents let alone grandparents! Gransnet covers lots of topics not just being a grandparent.

We don't mind Grandfathers being here , they are handy for changing light bulbs and washing the car

Well well !! I am a very slow 2 finger typist and find the abbreviations handy , some are medical terms as in PD ie Parkinson's Disease , but usually one can get the meaning from the text . At the top of the page there is a box labeled Acronyms , you might find it useful
