Vaginal atrophy. Medication?

I've had this for some time and have been managing with a vaginal moisturiser, which hasn't been particularly successful. Last week I saw a nurse practitioner at my surgery, who examined me and was concerned about how inflamed and sore the tissues looked - vulva and labia. I'm now using a steroid cream twice a day and see the doctor in two weeks for a review of the situation. I was told that it's possible he may refer me to a specialist.

I originally declined a hormone based cream as I was concerned about the risk of uterine cancer, but now I'm wondering if this may be the way to go. I really don't want to get into this situation again. Wondered what others used for this miserable condition.

We've got a couple of threads on this Genevieve; I'll try to bump them up for you. Sadly it's very common but not talked about much. I'm using just Replens at the moment but have a prescription for a hormone cream which I haven't tried yet; like you I'm avoiding it if possible. I also moisturise with Cetraban cream.

Thank you Tegan and Nelliemoser. I'll have a good look through the thread you've bumped up. I've tried Replens in the past, but found that it really burned, so don't know if it doesn't suit me, or if I didn't use it long enough.
