Can anyone recommend a good moisturiser for dry legs.

No matter which type of lotion or creams I use, my shin bones always look dry and flaky.

Does anyone else have this problem?

If so, what's the best thing to buy or use.
Nothing greasy that doesn't sink in.

I don't want to waste money on stuff that doesn't do the job.

All suggestions welcome.

I find anything oily better than cream,i use suntan oil on my legs in summer rather than cream and they still look good after, also use coconut oil after a bath or shower,

Have you tried cetaphil? They do a moisturising wash as well?

Pour a little baby oil onto your hands and add several drops of bio-oil. It makes it go further.

Victoria, I have the same problem and have used various things in the past, but have just been using some aloe Vera body cream that I bought on holiday and it seems the best so far. I have never used Aveeno but might try that next as it seems to get good reports on here.

Does anyone use Aveeno or Bio oil as a face cream and does it help or are they just for the body.

I use "Skin So Soft", gelled body oil by Avon. It comes in a clear plastic tube. Gelled body oil absorbs instantly into skin and dries to a silky, powdery finish. My skin is dry and itchy in the winter and it keeps my skin moisturised without leaving it sticky or greasy feeling.
I also discovered that its great for treating the very dry, hard skin on the soles of my feet. (I go bare foot a lot).
First I use a pumice stone in the shower to remove as much dead skin as possible. After my shower, I rub "Skin So Soft" on my feet. Since I've been using it my feet are 100% better than they have been in years, after trying every product under the sun on them.

I find that my legs get dry, too. I use a loofah and body scrub (any make) in the shower or bath to get the flaky bits off, and when my skin is still damp (I pat my skin, not rub it), I put lots of body butter on. Then I put my pyjamas on and let the body butter soak in overnight.

Dove,Aveeno and cetraben cream are very good

Neutrogena Body Lotion. I've recently become a fan of their face gel cream and the body lotion is as good. Similar to Clinique but a lot cheaper.

Cetaphil moisturising cream is good to use for dry legs as this gives no oily look, cures flaky skin problems but I personally recommend you to use Cocoa butter as this is the best homemade moisturizers for dry legs and protect your skin from many different harmful elements.

I developed some dry itchy patches on tops of arms and thighs, my GP recommended Diprobase, available from the pharmacy counter in a big pump type dispenser. I won't say it's not greasy initially, but rubs in well. I've found it very good, I use it daily after a shower and it has certainly alleviated my problem.

Another Aveeno fan here. I also only wash/bathe using Aveeno or olive oil soap which is quite cheap at Holland and Barrett. When I worked at the doctors I realised that a lot of older people suffered all sorts of problems with their legs and moisturising was very important; it's a part of the body that we don't tend to think to moisturise on a regular basis. I am going to try Double base, though. Mind you, at the moment I'm using Nivea anti cellulite gel on my legs; on offer at Boots at the moment. Says I should see a result in two weeks. I'm wondering if the ingredients might help with thread veins (is tighten everything up!). Also use their firming cream, too (also on offer).Stops me drying out when I go to the sauna a lot.

Annodomini I must agree about Doublebase it is the best product I have evr used it was prescribed for celluitis wen my skin was very dry but I have kept using it twice a week since and my skin is looking so good with constant use.It can be bought over the counter or on line and lasts for such a long time.

Use a body scrub and then a good body butter. The Body Shop is the best but M&S is almost as good and half the price.

annodomini Tue 27-Jun-17 09:25:25

When my skin was dry and fragile when I was on steroids, I was recommended Doublebase gel. It comes in a big pump container and lasts a long time. Tho' I've finished with the steroids, I'm still using the gel on arms, legs and feet.

I use Aveeno too, also only buy when I see it on special offer. For a few weeks before summer and throughout summer I use L'Oreal Summer Bronze, moisturises and gently tans, not tango orange. grin

Lazigirl Tue 27-Jun-17 08:55:02

I am another fan of Bio Oil. It's quite expensive but a little goes a long way' isn't sticky and doesn't leave residue.

hildajenniJ Tue 27-Jun-17 00:06:33

I buy Averno when I see it on offer. I have the regular kind and also Aveeno with shea butter. They are both excellent moisturisers. I use it because it was recommended by the Dermatologist who looks after my grandson skin. They both have x linked ichthiosis which causes severe dryness and scaly flakiness.

I use anything with aloe vera in.There is a good one made by Banana Boat for after sun skin, it's green, gooey and smells wonderful!

Whatever you use to moisturise, there's no point if you don't exfoliate first. A handful of salt or sand or a proper rough massage glove, brush or body scrub (avoid the ones that pollute the water, the 'rough' bits should be otganic). Also shaving takes off loose skin. Then rub dry with a not too soft towel.
