I rang the hospital to ask, i think the Dr should have told me, but at least i know now,or it would have been a bit of a shock

Just wondered if anyone has experienced this and what the outcome was
Had a small smear of blood, so made an appointment with GP ,in the meantime i developed Cystitis
Dr examined me and said cervix looks ok, but still sending me for a scan,
It doesnt seem to be connected to the Cystitis, as that started a few days after
I am very worried now as they will be checking for cancer too
I have no appetite , but lost some weight before this, which i put down to stress, which has been vert high in the last few months, but now worried its due to something else
I rang the hospital to ask, i think the Dr should have told me, but at least i know now,or it would have been a bit of a shock
I think I had the hystoroscopy, but thought it was something else, just thought it was vaginal. I didn't realise he was going in so far.
As I said earlier, not unpleasant, just a bit of a shock to think where he was going.
If you know what to expect, it makes things better. Many of us have no idea about our genital organs and where they are.
As it happens the letter regarding this has just come through the post,it says if polyps are found they will be removed at the time, but hopefully wont need one
When they did the scan it was found that the womb lining was thicker than it should be.
I had the hysteroscopy a week later and polyps were found.
I had day surgery under a GA three weeks later and the polyps were removed and sent for biopsy. They were all benign. Good luck with it all.
annsixty after the scan do they still do the hysterescopy, i have been given these dates now, but assuming if nothing is wrong ,i wont need it [hopefully]
The nurse did say it could be polyps
Personally i think it was the pelvic floor device that caused it, because i could hardly get it out again, [probably due to dryness,[]
It was a stupid idea to even try it tbh
The scan is certainly nothing to worry about.
Women are mostly used to internal examination and it is similar to a smear tact, just takes longer.
The hysteroscopy if that is needed is not pleasant, I would have to say, but like everything else is soon over and it is far better to be safe than sorry,
Just don't worry about it.
Seasider did you have to go through this scan,or did the Dr diagnose you
seasider thank you i mentioned that, but when she examined me she said there was no dryness, everything looked ok, there was at times
She was only very young, and would have preferred an older Dr, but she was the only female Dr i could see at so early an appointment,or would have had to wait until this week, unless they had a cancellation,
Valerie I went to the doctor because I kept getting cystitis. It turns out it was not cystitis at all but lack of oestrogen causing dryness in the vagina which was irritated when I went to the toilet. If you have an active sex life I guess the dryness could cause bleeding? Hopefully it is nothing to worry about
I have my referral appointment but can't have the scan until the tablets (hopefully) stop or at least reduce the heavy bleeding. Hope fully soon or else it's pointless seeing the consultant before I have had the scan.
Oh dear, sorry you're having problems too VQ .
I forgot to say i have an appointment for the scan on the 14th, and follow up on the 18th,
I have had no pains or anything to point to anything wrong,
I WOULDNT HAVE EVEN KNOWN ABOUT THE BLEEDING EXCEPT I HAD BEEN USING A PELVIC FLOOR CONTRAPTION AND IT HAD A SMEAR OF BLOOD ON IT WHEN I REMOVED IT, SO INITIALLY I PUT IT DOWN TO IRRITATION, WHICH I THINK IT STILL MIGHT BE,I HOPE,but thought i better check
Very sorry just realised all in caps
vampire queen sorry to read that you are going through this too,
Wasnt told it would be an internal scan,
I have only just seen the bit about the internal scan, i was expecting a normal scan, but if its to check the womb lining it might be internal,
The Dr just said a scan,
Still waiting for the cystitis to clear, have to take a urine sample in tomorrow after i rang to say it was still bothering me, but seems better tonight
The chemist said to take potassium citrate which i have been taking since yesterday so that might have helped
I have no idea how long cystitis is supposed to last
Did the GPs secretary make you an appointment or are you waiting for the hospital to contact you? If the latter ask the secretary for the hospital appointments number. They'll tell you when an appointment is available and when yours is.
Was at the hospital for this on Monday. Easy to say but try not to worry. 9 out of 10 reasons for bleeding are not cancer. The internal scan is OK but make sure your bladder is empty because it gets pressed on a bit (doesn't hurt). They'll check your ovaries and the width of the lining of your womb. If the lining looks normal that will be it. If, like me, the lining is slightly thickened you'll see a doctor who will insert a camera into your womb and take a biopsy. The doctor will tell you if everything looks ok and put your mind at rest straight away. When you're referred because of a bleed you have to be seen within 2 weeks. It's the same for everyone and doesn't mean they think it's cancer. Part of the reason is to put your mind at rest asap. After you've had the procedure they sit you in a comfy chair and give you tea and biscuits so not all bad.
Don't worry about the scan gilly, I had one every year for ten years, it is nothing to worry about, it is just like having a baby scan except they insert the probe into the vagina and it has a condom on that is well lubricated. This procedure gives a much better indication of what they are dealing with.
I do think its awful especially in your case and others who have had ongoing problems that Drs dont refer you,
All to do with cost im sure ,but all wrong
Hope you can get sorted,
I cant complain at all about my surgery, you can often get in the same day, albeit not with the same Dr, but sometimes they will fit you in with them if you ring at 8-30ish,and its all down on computer anyway
They keep a few slots free
The problem with my surgery is that you can't see the same doctor twice and have to repeat everything every time. My problems have been going on for quite some time now and I feel like I've been a bit fobbed off (which is worrying).
What a pair we are !
I just sent you a PM valeriej43 but yes I have finally got a referral for 3rd October but they can't do the scan until I get the bleeding under some kind of control. Have tablets to take. All seems a bit backward but can't be helped.
gillybob i hope you have managed to get a referral by now, i have to say my Drs are very good with this,
I hope all is well, when you have had problems like yours ongoing, you shouldnt have to ask to be referred
I have always been very healthy, no big problems
I have Haemochromatosis ,which is iron overload, but it doesnt cause me any problems, i just have to have a pint of blood taken every so often when the ferritin gets too high,
I am not on any other medication at all,
Sadly I don't have anyone to take with me TriciaF so will be going on my own to both the scan and to see the consultant. Not worried about being alone (I'm kinda used to it) just worried about what they might find. Sometimes Mr Google gives far too much information.
I'd always had very normal, regular periods but round about menopause time my periods did become very heavy and I was put on some tablets for a while. I can only remember this because I can recall my GP saying that I needed to take the medication as I would possibly become anaemic if I didn't [so the bleeding must have been quite bad].As for weight loss, my eating pattern fluctuates from eating all the time when I'm a bit stressed/fed to not being able to eat at all, which is usually when I'm having a health scare. For some reason this seems to mean eating a cheese and pickle sandwich once a day and not being able to face anything else to eat; the weight falls off me at times like that and I always ruefully think to myself that I wished I could ignore food in that way the rest of the time.
My sympathies to both of you. Take a female friend with you for the scan,*Gilly*.
Sorry if I put you off with my description. The scan itself wasn't so bad, it was the feeling of being on my own.
Probably no consolation to you at all valeriej43 but just to let you know that I know how you feel and can understand what you are going through.
I have had heavy bleeding for over a month now and saw my GP yesterday who must've took it very seriously as I got a phone call this morning with an appointment to see consultant on 3rd October and told to expect a call to go for an internal scan (not sure what to expect there??) . The GP has prescribed a high dose of Norethisterone (spelling?) to try and stop the bleeding before the scan but to say I'm frightened is the understatement of the year.
Got my scan date 14th,and follow up on the 18th,in case i need any treatment, but more worried now as i have lost a bit more weight,
Having said that i have no appetite really, due to stress,
The scan is to see if the womb lining, but its the extra weight loss that is worrying me now
Has anyone who has had this or similiar lost weight ?
