Well, predictably, here we are using emergency services whilst DS1 awaits an 'urgent' referral for meds review and therapy. Third visit in a fortnight. Palmed off with diazepam first 2 times. This visit maybe more progress . We have been here over 8 hours now whilst waiting for a bed to be found for him. Still likely to take another 3. I am beyond exhaustion having spent 2 nights on suicide watch before this visit. But they might still send him away with 'something to knock you out.' Tipping point yesterday was when he received a voicemail message, telling him that he has got a consultant's appointment ...the one we have been begging for for over 2 weeks.Yes ...on November 3rd. Bless him he has been trying so hard to manage all night in A&E. Staff could not be nicer, but such appalling lack of services. I have been grieving my 'lost boy's for days now. And all of this was so avoidable if he had been given proper support, when he asked, 10 weeks ago ...

Such good news that your DS is now receiving the care and "asylum" that he so desperately needs - I use the word asylum deliberately - these old hospitals had a bad name but could be a real sanctuary for a very sick person, and miles better than care in the community done on the cheap.

I hope that you will be able to rest a little today and feel secure that your son is receiving the care he needs. A Cinderella service indeed. Take care. x

Jane - as regards the police, they have been called on many occasions and are the only service in that area that seems to have a grain of common sense - but they too struggle to access the proper care required - all they can do is put him out of circulation till he calms down. They share out horror at the poor services.

Sorry I've only just seen this thread. I'm so glad your son finally got a place on a ward. It must have been exhausting and heartbreaking for him to have to wait in a and e for such a long time. Now is the time you recoup your strength. Your son is safe for the time being and you can relax and think about yourself. Do what you need to do for you.

Lucky, thanks for making the point about the police. My work and personal experience has been similar to yours. They are another public service cut to the bone. Two officers responded to a series of burglaries/garage break ins locally. There was one car and three officers to cover two districts in our town, covering a large area. Their colleague had stayed office based to respond to other crimes and concerns. Shocking
