One tooth less [sad]

Sympathy for you TriciaF. I had a crumbling back tooth. My dentist has temporarily filled it and I am awaiting an appointment to have an impression for an inlay. Good luck with the new addition to your plate.

Two weeks ago I had a wobbly tooth taken out.
It was my first. I had held on to it as long as I could as it wasn't decayed. I am not bothering to have a false one as it is at the back but I was sad all the same.

I don’t have any teeth problems TriciaF but feel for you as we need our teeth!
At least though, unlike other older generations we have been able to hang onto our own teeth for much longer.
Will you have to chew on the other side now?

Trivia F , condolences to you . Am gradually loosing my teeth. Anyone had implants? I know they are expensive but are they ok?

I have the problem where it's not my teeth, its my gums!

I do hope that the tooth fairy visited!

Thanks for the commiserations. Now that it's gone, I actually feel relieved - maybe it's not good to have a low-level infection for so long.

When she was 83 my Mum was in hospital after a stroke, and she was the only person on her small ward who needed to brush her teeth. The others all had false teeth.

I could have written OPs post.
Over the past 6 years I have lost 5 upper teeth. Started off with a plate for one tooth and gradually progressed. One by one, a crown has failed, a tooth has broken off at the gum!! etc. It all started following 2 years on a heavy 60mg dose of steroid medication. I now have only 3 teeth left on the top.

One of these is a crown which has been recemented twice in the last month. I have a dental appointment on Wedesday and am pretty certain that an add-on to my denture will be suggested as the root appears to be not viable to retain a crown.

That'll be me down to two top teeth.
When I asked dentist about removing the few that remain he said absolutely not.... these help the wearing of a denture, he says.

Surprisingly, I still have all of my lower teeth.

Annsixty, an inlay is where an impression is taken of the inside of the remaining bit of my tooth, and a bit made to fit exactly inside my tooth!!! . So am I, but I think that is what is going to happen. I'll let you know, but it's not until November.

I hope that costs less than an implant then, they can cost several thousands each.

It's all covered under the NHS, so over £200, but less than £300. Still a gulp though.

Oh so sorry Tricia F I feel for you.
I had a tooth removed two weeks ago as I had a roaring infection. This tooth over the last 20 years has cost me approx. £2000 - its had 5 lots of work on it so in a way I am glad to see the back of it but another sad to loose a tooth. Now I have a cold and I have to have a big operation on my foot. T top that off its Sober October I'm on a diet and I'm fed up.

It's no fun is it? I lost all my teeth when I was 11 due to neglect

I went back this pm and got the plate with the new one added to it. Our dentists have a lab. on he premises which does this work.
Comfortable, and to be honest, an improvement, because instead of the half tooth I had before now it's a full matching tooth.
211€ altogether. About £190. I should get some of it reimbursed by our medical insurance, they won't reimburse for everything.

I had an implant 5 years ago and it is wonderful. The tooth was almost at the front, the incisor next to the two front teeth so it was fairly obvious. It was £2,000 but the dentist in Bath is very good. He said it would take an hour but it was only 30 mins (apparently I was an excellent patient!) and I had to go back for checks for a couple of months.
I have several crowns due to my childhood habit of cracking nuts with my teeth! Yes I know, I was told it would lead to trouble when I was older but who listens when they are 10.

Just 4 years ago I knocked my last "baby" tooth, and broke it. My dentist removed the remains - and put it into a tooth fairy box!!!

I was intruiged by the title of this post............mislead myself of course serves me right.

Teeth are a trouble coming and going............I hate the thought of dying off a bit at a time but that is the way of it.

Before I read your entire post TriciaF I was about to say GO NOW! Luckily you have. I had a low grade infection for months and my dentist could seem nothing on X-rays (from every conceivable angle). Eventually he said there was nothing for it but to take it out. It had had root canal treatment 15 years which complicated the process and it took an hour to get the tooth out - bit by bit. A lot of the bone in front of the tooth had gone because of the infections. That was over a week ago and it is still painful. Luckily it's at the back. But my advice to anybody is not to put off going to the dentist.

I can almost understand the people that say "just take the lot out!", which I had always thought was really strange, pre my own tooth troubles.

What is an implant exactly, how is it attached?
I understand crowns and a plate, but how is an implant kept in place?

Glad you feel better now TriciaF a troublesome tooth is a real bother (DH had one which just needed to come out really, but the dentist kept it going long past it’s life)
Eventually, he did have it taken out and was devastated to have lost a tooth! He has all the rest, so you wouldn’t think it was a problem.?

Lemongrove, the dentist puts a small screw into the bone and the crown sits on this. My dentist quoted me £1500. You can travel to places like Hungary where it is cheaper.
Also be aware that an underlying condition like diabetes can make you lose your teeth. I am sure this has happened to me. I am now trying to keep my blood sugars down.
