Body temperature

My usual temp is around 36 - for that last few days it has been between 38.6 and 39.5 - and I feel truly dreadful - I have not even washed my face or combed my hair today, nor really eaten anything. I have been sleeping most of the day. I so very very seldom throw a high temp that I am not sure whether this matters much or not. The only other time it happened a few years ago I had pneumonia.

I have headache, joint pains, nausea, earache, sore throat, hacking wheezy cough - I am just creeping about. Even if I rang a doc they would not be able to get to me in the snow drifts, so I am just taking paracetamol but it is not bringing it down.

Should I be concerned about this or just rife it out? - I guess it is flu.

I am not an expert but 39 seems high. why not ring 111 and speak to them. Hope you feel better soon.

MawBroon Sat 03-Mar-18 17:38:21

Flu
More paracetamol, can you take ibuprofen? If so then some of that too.
Fluids, keep warm and make sure you can call for help if things get worse.
Mine stayed up around 39 for a week and I suspect I was hallucinating at times.
But given that you have had pneumonia, on reflection, I think you need to call out a Dr - the roads should be clearing in a day or two. Good luck!

It sounds to me like real flu which can lead to pneumonia, you need to see a doctor soon to listen to your lungs. Don't leave it too long.........

Farmor15 Sat 03-Mar-18 17:53:29

Aspirin or ibuprofen is better for fever and pain than paracetamol. Like MawBroom says, plenty of fluids are important. Does sound like flu.

It is pretty grim - I usually have a very low temp, even when ill. I am desperate to go to bed now, but OH will need help to get into bed later - he will just have to wake me up I think.

Ring 111, Lucky, just to be on the safe side.

nanaK54 Sat 03-Mar-18 18:45:02

How are you and DH this morning Lucky?

whitewave Sun 04-Mar-18 08:21:42

Just seen this.

lucky how are you doing?

cornergran Sun 04-Mar-18 08:41:29

Also wondering how you both are this morning lucky. If you can please let your family know and yes, call 111 as well. You sound to be very poorly indeed.

Marmight Sun 04-Mar-18 08:45:24

Definitely talk to your GP especially as you are prone to pneumonia. Like Maw I was like this 3 weeks ago and was advised to see a doc asap. I did, and was put on antibiotics. It's a really horrible thing, still lingering with me. Just stay in bed and do as advised by others. I hope you feel a bit better today and hope there is someone nearby who can help you a bit?

BlueBelle Sun 04-Mar-18 08:50:48

Lucky snow or not, ring 111 and can you get family or friends or neighbours on board to help with your husband

farview Sun 04-Mar-18 09:12:19

Lucky..hope you've taken heed of all the above advice..ring 111 nip it in the bud..don't let it become far worse.. wishing you well??

Luckygirl Sun 04-Mar-18 09:14:59

Woke at 2 am with temp of 39.9 and have been awake ever since feeling pretty grim. OH now also has a temp = which is a bit worrying as he has no reserves.

I will ring the girls in a bit - one of the local DDs is ill in bed herself; and I really do not think anyone could get to us at the moment. We will just have to let everything go till we are better.

MawBroon Sun 04-Mar-18 09:18:08

I think you might have to call an ambulance - scary prospect, but at least ring 111 as they will be able to help you justify that to the service. Do take care of yourselves.

kittylester Sun 04-Mar-18 09:22:25

Please ring 111, Lucky, don't wait for your DD to get to you! 111 will help you decide the best way forward.

cornergran Sun 04-Mar-18 09:28:13

Sorry to have lucky, please phone 111, help, will get to,you somehow. Suspect you both need to be off to hospital.

cornergran Sun 04-Mar-18 09:28:42

Oops not have - nag.

kittylester Sun 04-Mar-18 09:54:29

Bumping this in the hope that Lucky sees it easily!

leemw711 Sun 04-Mar-18 10:04:33

Feeling lousy at the moment - have been diagnosed with anaemia and feel feeble, have flu, and have no energy at all. So cold too.... my son had to walk home from work yesterday night, buses had been cancelled so he had a very snowy walk of about 3 miles, uphill all the way. He was so chilled when he got home that I was really worried about him.

Luckygirl Sun 04-Mar-18 10:40:34

It is a bad time of year for bugs leemw711 - hope you feel better soon.

I have contacted 111 and someone is coming out to see OH today - he is very vulnerable and could go downhill very fast. I asked that the same doctor might listen to my chest while they are here and it does seem that this does not comply with the rules - sigh. However I will try and persuade them to play ball. Last time I had these spiking temps I had pneumonia, so having a listen in would seem to make sense.

annodomini Sun 04-Mar-18 10:44:41

Lucky, that is an extremely high temperature and you can't just 'let everything go', because the kind of secondary infection which you seem to have is not just going to go away as a virus does. For both your sakes, please do heed the advice to ring 111. Some doctors are being ferried around by volunteers who have Landrovers. I know you are too ill to contemplate taking action, but I don't like to think about the consequences if you don't.

annodomini Sun 04-Mar-18 10:51:29

Posts crossed Lucky. Glad you managed to phone 111 but it does seem outrageous that when you have a potentially very serious infection, the doctor isn't allowed to examine you too. If that's really a rule, it should be disregarded in your case.
