Bladder discomfort

Over the last few weeks I have been suffering from a dragging pain in/around the bladder. I constantly feel the need to urinate but there is no pain when I do (relief for a minute or two). This could be stress related or my MS showing itself but its getting me down. Does anyone have any ideas of something that could help.

drink lots of cranberry juice,it calms the bladder snd will ease the pain. When I had a horrible bladder infection the GP decided antibiotics weren't the way forward and told me about cranberry and I've drank it ever since.Hope you feel better soon

Best to have it checked gilly. UTI is the likely suspect - they're not always accompanied by pain, blood or temperature.

It does sound like a UTI gillybob so it would be best to take a sample to the surgery to have it checked to make sure. If you don't have a sample tube then they will give you one at the surgery or you could buy one from the chemist.

They may or may not suggest antibiotics and I have heard that cranberry juice helps.

Rightly or wrongly I have been taking those sachets for cystitis but they haven't helped at all. I probably wouldn't describe it as pain as such more, discomfort and it doesn't hurt when I urinate unlike normal cystitis. I know you are all right and (telling me what I already knew) but I was trying to avoid a trip to the GP. I will pick up a sample bottle at the chemist later today. Thank you everyone smile

I will pick up some Cranberry juice on my way home too. smile

I have just had a cystocele (prolapsed bladder) operated on, to stitch everything back in place. I had similar symptoms. Probably a uti, though.

Agree probably a UTI , but when you say you have no burning pain I wonder if it could be insterstitial cystitis . I suffer from this and the only relief is just after I have urinated. It's inflammation of the bladder but you need to rule out an infection first.

hatever it is you need to have it checked out. Urine sample to GP first.
It also sounds as if it could be due to some kind of prolapse, which I have at times, but only the medics. can confirm or not.

harrigran Wed 24-Oct-18 12:45:09

I was going to suggest a slight prolapse, muscle control weakens a bit after the menopause or even during it.
I would not rule out stress either, when you are living life in the fast lane it takes it's toll.

Doctors when you can get an appointment - you should get it checked out - it's very likely nothing but it's no good speculating and self medicating.

I get a lot of UTIs, typically 3 or 4 each year, but I'm atypical and don't have any pain on urinating. Symptoms tend to be needing to wee a lot, pain and a sort of dragging feeling in lower abdomen. You should get checked by your GP.

Agree you need to see a GP, but in the meantime perhaps try cutting out all caffeine
Hope you are soon feeling much better

Cranberry juice has been proven to have no effect at all. Try Dextra Mannose powder or tablets, available from Waterfall online. 3 courses of antibiotics didn't clear my bad cystitis which kept returning but the D-Mannose got rid of it quickly. Brilliant stuff.

Sparklefizz Wed 24-Oct-18 15:27:50

Cranberry juice has been proven to have no effect at all according to the NHS website.

BlueBelle Wed 24-Oct-18 15:32:51

Sorry to disagree Sparkle but as someone who had cystitis badly and regularly for all my sexually active life I used cranberry tablets I bought in NZ and if I catch it really early they do help They won’t help when it’s fully blown for sure but they do help in the first day when I feel it starting so I don’t care what tests show I know it can help

paddyann Wed 24-Oct-18 17:10:02

I'll pass that on to my GP Sparklefizz when I tell her how much it helped me .

NotAGran55 Wed 24-Oct-18 17:57:40

It could be hormonal and related to the thinning of the bladder walls and other areas close by . Oestrogen cream or pessaries might help ( it works for me with the same sounding symptoms )
In any event a trip to the GP might be advisable.

Sparklefizz Wed 24-Oct-18 18:02:44

Paddyann I checked the NHS website before typing that post. It would be interesting to know why doctors are still recommending it if their own main website says no. It says elsewhere online that cranberry juice can have a placebo effect. I never knock the placebo effect because whatever works must surely be good.

our Doctor doesn't see me when I have these symptoms , not that I get it often , but I pop a sample ( chemist gives me the tubes free) into a box on the wall beside the receptionist , making sure I have name etc on the label . I ring later that day and am told if I need an antibiotic , last time sample was sent to lab and prescription was forwarded to the Chemist across the road .If it is just starting I drink loads more plain tap water and that can clear it

Sparklefizz Wed 24-Oct-18 18:06:54

I wouldn't dare post something like that on here without checking my facts - too afraid of being shot down in flames
shock

Sparklefizz Wed 24-Oct-18 18:07:44

.... referring to my post on cranberry juice earlier.

DD had to have bladder reconstruction surgery three years ago following an operation for endometriosis. She takes cranberry tablets every day as recommended by her consultant.

Maybe he doesn't read NHS websites?

aggie Wed 24-Oct-18 18:16:15

I tried the D Manose , but they didn't help me , everyone is different
