Cataract surgery

Hello all, and good wishes.

Wasn't sure if this should have been posted under "Ask a Gran", but anyway!

Due to have cataract surgery soon, realise that it is done with local anaesthetic (eye drops), but I have been advised that at the place where I'm having it done, the procedure is carried out without any sedation at all shock. A neighbour had it done recently (different hospital, but still NHS) and was given a sedative.

So, have any of you any advice? I really need the work done, but am a tad worried!

But Phoenix if you use one varifocal lens along with your newly refurbished eye you may find there is very little discrepancy at all. I don't recommend trying it out while driving until you establish if this works or not.
When both eyes are done the over-the -counter specs should be fine but probably not while your eyes are out of sync.

Please stop worrying.

I had my cataract done with the anaesthetic you describe.
The nurse was extremely careful putting the drops in three times.

I didn't feel anything at all during the surgery and had absolutely no pain or discomfort afterwards.

It was far less unpleasant than most visits to the dentist.

It didn't take long either, the actual surgery took 20 minutes, so I had no difficulty sitting still for that length of time.

Forgot to say that the difference in my sight is completely astounding!
