OH now on end-of-life care.

OH in nursing hone with end-stage PD, and he has been in terrible mental stress with paranoia on top of his total physical helplessness. He shot a temperature yesterday and clearly has some sort of infection - probably chest. I opted for him not to go to hospital, as I know this is what he wants. They are trying (and failing) to get oral antibiotics down, and have scratched all meds non-essential for his comfort . We just want him to go in peace now. But he is intermittently awake and in distress that he cannot articulate. They have all the necessary drugs for palliative care.

I am torn between wanting to keep him and wanting him to just go now so his distress is over. It is a torment

Sorry to hear the latest development with your much loved husband Luckygirl. It's heartbreaking to be in this situation, my experience has been of good medical teams and I do hope that is what you have to support you at this time. Sending love to all of you x

Lucky I am so sorry but know just how you feel. It is heartbreaking to see someone you love suffer ?

So sorry to read this, Lucky. Witnessing someone you love unable to explain their distress is very hard.

There comes a point when you know there is nothing more you can do other than face the inevitable with as much courage as you can muster.

Sending love and best wishes.

There is no easy solution to your torment except to think that you love him enough to let him go. ?
I do know much of what you must be feeling, but in hindsight, much as I would give my right arm to have Paw back again, it would be totally wrong to wish more hours and days of pain and suffering on him.
Take this opportunity for anybody who needs to see him, to visit. Be there with your daughters and if there is one positive to take from this, it is the chance to tell him you love him and to say goodbye. If he slips away in the arms of those who love him best, that is a privilege many of us would wish for.
A hard hard time for you ?

Lucky if he's in distress they need to commence those end of life medications now, particularly the anxiolytic drug, Midazolam.

Really sorry to hear this, especially since you've had such a struggle. Will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Thinking of you Lucky.

Lucky (from experience) it may be that you have to tell him that it's OK to give up the struggle. Say that your daughters will look after you and he doesn't have to worry now. Sometimes, people really need 'permission' to go.
