Air purifier or ioniser?

Has anyone tried an air purifier or ioniser?

I would like to get one for the bedroom as I normally close the windows at night and am wondering if the air quality would improve and if we would sleep better with one of these.

Any recommendations (or the opposite) would be appreciated.

I suffer from allergies and get sinus pain. I use a Salin salt machine in my bedroom at night and it does help at times, but I find the noise can disturb my sleep. I live in a bungalow so can't leave my windows open, really miss being able to do that when it's really hot or my night sweats are bad.

Another Blueair fan here. If you do a little research it comes out top in many surveys. I will always open a window but sometimes its not possible. (noisy neighbours in hot tub until the early hours) Together with a Meaco quiet fan, it gives us a comfortable nights sleep and I wake without a headache. Normally if the window is closed I always seem to get a thick head! It will also be good when visitors are allowed again as it helps to remove airborn virus particles. Ive had mine almost a year now and the filter doesn't need replacing yet. I wish I'd had one when I lived on a busy main road as that is another reason to keep the bedroom window closed!

I am pleased this thread has been resurrected. I had put the idea of getting one of these gadgets on hold. Thanks for the additional replies.

I can't open the windows because I am a light sleeper, the bedroom is in the front and I get woken by people chatting on their way to school/work and by any traffic going by.

I am also asthmatic and notice changes in air quality if fumes blow in from cars parking outside.

I don't fancy cleaning up black walls or table tops by using an ioniser so an air purifier seems the way to go provided that they are not noisy when left on all night..

Sorry, the above link doesn't seem to work. Try the following one if you are interested and, if it doesn't, apologies.

Can’t comment on either but have you tired an eye shield? I have a very good one from Mountain Warehouse- very inexpensive too!

My bedroom window is open 365 days a year (yes, including throughout the winter).

I do have ionisers in my kitchen and the lounge.

I live on a drafty narrow boat. Can't say I have thought about the purity of the air. I breath the air that is given to me by my surroundings.

I've only ever had ionizers but the thing with them is they cause all particulates in the air to drop to the floor. You will notice that when you move a piece of furniture or something on your bedside table. Therefore, they also drop on you. Are you OK with that? If the air purifiers have a filter which catches all the particulates, I would say go for one of those.

I just keep our windows open.
