You would have to take 2 tablespoons of turmeric every day to have any effect. Glucosamine has only placebo effect. HRT has been shown to be beneficial for knee osteoarthritis, if you happen to be taking it for other reasons, but it would be an 'off-label' use if you were to ask your doctor. Exercise has about the best effect of all - little and often!
Many years ago before natural remedies took off, my friend's pony had arthritis quite badly. My friend had heard about the benefits of glucosamine and bought a large tub. About the size of a large tin of Dulux paint. The dosage for a thirteen hand pony was substantial. But it worked. She was definitely better. So my friend worked out the weight of the pony and her weight and a dose for a small late middle aged lady and took it herself for her own knees. The swelling went down considerably and the pain was much eased. She did eventually need new knees but it delayed the operation for many years.
