support, understanding and sharing for all mental health
troubles .

Joce345 Sat 13-Mar-21 14:47:00

Aww Annie yes I can understand, wonder if there’s any solution to for you. Hope someone can help you.
Try not to worry about it... easier said I know.
Sending you a hug x

Scaredycat Sat 13-Mar-21 17:30:48

Annie- I understand why you feel as you do. It must be daunting to suddenly have the chair after so long waiting and thinking about it. It must feel very exposed and alien compared to anything you have had before. It is early days yet and maybe if you could sit in it for a few minutes each day you will start to feel more comfortable. Would it be possible to have the nice lady who came today more often as you sound like you trust her. As Joce says try not to worry - we are all thinking of youXXX

Doodle Sat 13-Mar-21 19:51:49

Annie who is to say what each of us finds frightening. DH cannot stand near the edge of anything without fear of falling. I panic at the thought of confinement. It doesn’t matter if the fear is rational or not. Fear and uncertainty can come on us at any time. Is it possible to have a tray or something attached to the front to make it less daunting.
Please don’t be put off. Just try sitting in it for a little while every day. Does it have a seatbelt for instance? Everything in life takes some getting used to. Please don’t give up on it just take it slowly and give yourself time to adjust.
Hello to the rest of the BDG. Hope you are all having a good weekend. It’s very cold and windy here but we did go for a walk.

BlueSky Sun 14-Mar-21 09:38:17

Morning all x Annie sorry to hear you don’t get on with your new power chair. Did you used to have a scooter before? My MiL was in a similar situation, she was used to her scooter, then because of her worsening health, we thought a power chair would be a safer option. I’m afraid to say she never really got used to it and would have jumped back on her old scooter if she had been able to. Not sure this is your problem. Hopefully there’s a solution for this.
Hope you are all managing under the circumstances. Have a good Sunday x cafe

rafichagran Sun 14-Mar-21 10:00:57

Hi Annie sorry you are not getting on with your chair. I hope you get used to it and you have someone to go out with.
Best wishes to you all on BDG and have a good day.

Nonnie Sun 14-Mar-21 10:17:53

Annnie my first thought was the same as Doodle's, can you get something attached at the front? Is there some way you can gradually get used to it, not sure how. Could you have the dogs keep you company, would that be comforting? Do talk to someone you feel good about, your enabler? Is your DG coming soon? She might have some ideas.

We drove to a local National Trust for a walk yesterday, not many people around the walks but quite a lot sitting near the cafe. The person checking our names off at the entrance was so nice, so welcoming standing there in the cold and the wind.

Today is a sad day for those of us who have lost a child. I'm OK at the moment, will see how it goes.

Hi all and thank you so much x

Like BlueSky’s MIL, I loved Fred my scooter, I couldn’t use him because I couldn’t put a cover over him because of my
arthritic hands and don’t have a shed. I still have him.

Spent hours trying to think it through, I do not want to go out
on a Power chair, feel too vulnerable, if you can imagine sitting on a chair with arms and on wheels going along a pavement, nothing between you and what ever is coming towards you. Yes the same as walking but if walking you can step to one side quickly.

Can’t attach anything to the front and have looked on every site, no power chair with anything in the front.

This is the last week with the enablers, now I need to find someone privately. Something else to sort out.

I will not give up hope, without hope what is there

Hugs to you all x

Joce345 Sun 14-Mar-21 12:58:14

Annie you never give up, good on you. ?
Might be a daft idea but, would or could your Dogs ride in a bag on the front if you had one made. Just a thought.
I made one for a friend that tied on.. not for a dog..
hope everyone is have a good day..

Scaredycat Sun 14-Mar-21 15:46:00

Good afternoon
Annie - I think it may be possible to buy a seat belt for your chair - would that help? Did you find it comfortable to sit in ?
The time with your enablers seems to have gone so quickly is there any chance that time could be extended?
Everyone here knows how hard you try and I just hope there will be a solution so that you can use your chair in a reassuring way. Take carex
I have been very lucky today and spent some time with my daughter for Mother’s Day. I met her on our village green where we had a flask of coffee and cake and a lovely chat. It felt so good to do something that was almost like normal. I hope all in BDG have had a good day too.xx

Doodle Sun 14-Mar-21 18:55:05

Annie I think perhaps you are going too far ahead. Your power chair is a new concept and as such needs time to adjust to. Is there anywhere in your home you can just go forwards and backwards a bit or just sit in it for a while every day to get used to it. Start by being out in the front on your patio without going anywhere. I think it is lack of confidence which is affecting you and you definitely need someone with you when you venture out. Please don’t give up on it.
Are you able to get out onto the patio? Is the path flat enough for you to do that?
Bluesky how are you, hope things are going ok?
Nice to hear from you too rafichagran and Joce
Nonnie we have a local National Trust place we visit too. Lovely place high up on a hill with views all around. Strange to think all that land and the big house all owned by one family.
Thinking of you all today and those who have lost loved ones ?

Nonnie Mon 15-Mar-21 09:44:08

Annie once again I agree with Doodle.

If you plan to get someone privately to help you perhaps you can view that as a project? I find any sort of project helps me and keeps my mind off the negative things. It needs to be just the right person for it to work.

Doodle it had high places too, one which allowed the wind to almost overcome us! Also came home with very muddy boots.

Yesterday I was overwhelmed with love from my family. Started with opening a card with the best message ever, and ended with a lovely meal, In between was good too. Feeling very blessed this morning.

Nonnie Mon 15-Mar-21 09:51:27

She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;
She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
“Winter is dead.” ~A.A.Milne

Doodle Mon 15-Mar-21 19:07:04

Nonnie that’s a nice poem. I’m looking forward to summer.
Annie are you feeling any more positive today? I’m hoping things loosen up soon and your MT can come and visit. I’m sure you need some reassurance.
I had a long phone call with a friend today who has had some really worrying family news. I am so sorry for her I can’t seem to shake it off.
Hope the rest of the BDG are ok.

Anniebach Tue 16-Mar-21 09:32:23

Hi all x

How is everyone ?

Lot going on yesterday, younger daughter and son in law drove down from Lincolnshire, allowed because I need care,
removed my bedroom furniture, including bed, painted walls,
lay new flooring, replaced furniture with new. Didn’t expect room to be painted, daughter received message from mini tornado - are you going to paint the walls !

Elder granddaughter and partner arrived, they had been to view a property in town, a long conversation by mobile phone with them standing at living room window.

Don’t think I will again moan about a quiet day, not seen anyone etc.

Nonnie Tue 16-Mar-21 11:56:00

Doodle I understand, I do that too.

Annie that is lovely support. Are you back in your bed now? New beds can take a while to get used to.

Exciting morning, window cleaner came!!

Scaredycat Tue 16-Mar-21 12:08:31

Morning all
Nonnie I,m glad you had a lovely day Sunday. The poem was lovely - so looking forward to the end of this Winter and the warmer weather.
Doodle- I hope your friend has better news soon. When the people you care about are distressed it is only natural to feel for them as you put yourself in their place don’t you. I hope you have a good day today.
Annie - What a busy day you had yesterday! It must have been so good to see your daughter and SiL They have worked so hard and will now be very happy that you will be able to sleep in your bed again. MT will be delighted too I,m sure.
Good to see and chat with your elder GD too. It would be lovely if she moved closer to you- fingers crossed.
I feel happy for you today.
Had a walk to Docs today to put in our prescriptions. The vaccination seems to have made some people prematurely confident I think as distancing wasn’t as good as it should be. My DH has acquired a Pressure Washer so hours of fun in store cleaning everywhere outside! I had a go yesterday and it felt quite therapeutic. I ended up with mud on my face!!
Love to all in BDG and hope today is a good one for you all.

Joce345 Tue 16-Mar-21 12:46:00

Annie that’s brilliant for you.. back in bed hopefully, good nights sleep does make a world of difference..
nothing can be better than family round you busy but lovely day for you hopefully.

I have had hypnosis this morning going to try 3 sessions he thinks that will help keeping open mind and all fingers crossed

Hope you are all having a good day.. ?

Anniebach Tue 16-Mar-21 13:08:52

Thanks all x

Can’t sleep in bed until I master the wheelchair, so far have reversed into fire place hearth, hit kitchen door, ran over dogs
drinking bowl and again hit kitchen door coming back into
living room , how did I pass my driving test at 17 !

Doodle Tue 16-Mar-21 14:57:44

Annie so pleased your DD and SIL have replaced your carpet and made your bedroom nice. It made me laugh when you said MT asked if they were going to paint the walls. Always looking after you ?
I’m glad you are trying out your chair. It would take practice for any of us. The only way to learn is to keep trying.
You had a visit from your other DGD too, how lovely. What a day ?
Nonnie clean windows, I am jealous. ?. I can’t clean ours so have to wait till our window cleaner comes.
Scaredycat thank you. Unfortunately I fear my friends sadness has no solution and they will just have to live with the situation. Only time will heal the hurt.
We used to have a pressure washer. Good fun.
Joce good for you trying everything you can to improve things. Hope it works for you.
Have a good day all.
Going for a drive to charge the battery then a walk to charge our own batteries ?

Joce345 Tue 16-Mar-21 18:00:45

Well done!!! Annie we learn from our mistakes, sure you will master it soon, fingers crossed for you x

Nonnie Wed 17-Mar-21 11:58:40

Scardycat thanks for that reminder, we have DS's pressure washer here and should use it.

annie that conjured up a sitcom picture in my mind! Trial and error, will take time.

Positives - went to bed last night listing how many ways I am blessed, certainly weighed the scales on the right side.

Anniebach Wed 17-Mar-21 12:04:06

Hi all x

Update ?

Power chair being returned and will be replaced by a small
scooter, checked all measurements etc, so a mini Fred.

The enablement team visits stop this week, younger daughter has arranged for a very nice person (met her yesterday) to come for an hour every morning to do the things my twisted hands can’t do, she use to work as an enabler so will give that
support too. Haven’t told mini tornado, had visions of her wanting to do the interviewing !

How is everyone?

Joce345 Wed 17-Mar-21 17:00:52

Hello all
Annie good for you.. you can’t fault you MT for wanting the best for her grandmother..
hope all goes well with your new help when does she start?
Hope everyone else is having a good day.
Nonnie well done, think we don’t relies how many thing we have to feel bless about we really all should count our blessings.
It’s just very hard to at the moment for many people

Doodle Wed 17-Mar-21 18:56:20

Annie hope you will feel more comfortable with your small scooter. Will you be able to use it indoors?
So pleased to hear your DD has arranged for someone to pop in every day. It will be so much better having someone you know on a regular basis. I hope MT approves ?
Nonnie I often think we don’t take into account all our blessings. I know that I tend to concentrate on all that has gone wrong and on my worries rather than being greatful for what I have.
Joce life is hard at the moment. How are you coping?
Take care all x

Joce345 Wed 17-Mar-21 20:39:29

Doodle I’m not so bad thank you. Some days are harder than others but I’m not on my own I know.
How are you hope your friend is ok.
Have a peaceful nights sleep all ?
