The secret to a good nights sleep....

For about 10 years a good nights sleep has been a rare pleasure.
I’ve tried OTC tablets, meditation, diet and pillow sprays with varying results.
Finally I think I’ve found the solution in a tea bag!
It’s a well known organic brand that has a night time tea.
I’m sleeping like a log.....just hoping it lasts.
Has anyone else discovered this little bag of magic?

Yes.... my youngest brother ...one year older than me ( I’m youngest)...and there’s an older brother and sister . When he came along my sister says he took pride of place in both parents affections . I turned up just a year later and was certainly unexpected and not wanted!! But for all that we knew he was the ONE....my parents never treated us any differently ...well mostly not. Anyway we don’t resent him for it , even though when mum and dad were poorly and at the end of life scenario...he was the only one who never lifted a finger. He’s always been selfish but we blame our parents , not him.

lolarabbit. I have just this morning bought a box of Pukka Night time.
I can't bear liquorice in any shape or form, but I can confirm there is no taste of it at all.
Just don't ask me whether I like it?

A relative in the States sent me melatonin. I seem to have mixed results with it, eg last night I was extremely disturbed with vivid dreams. However lots of people swear by it. Kalms don’t work for me at all. The postman has just this minute delivered magnesium gel which you rub on your joints and soles of feet -it is supposed to give you a good sleep, so I’m looking forward to trying that tonight. I’ll also get the Pukka tea snd try it...

I have a allergy tablet before bed, I do get occasional allergies so I tell myself it’s ok. I drift off about 12.30 or 1.00am. I’m going to try the tea, thanks for the tip.

Thank you Miss Foodlove, have just ordered some from Sainsbury’s who have it on offer this week, so I am absolutely sure ai am meant to try it!! Going to try and cut down my wine nights and have this instead. Thank you.

I know camomile is supposed to be soothing at bedtime, and peppermint tea is good for the digestion. I can never decide which to have, so bung a tea bag of both of them in a mug as my night time tipple! Moreorless works for me, but I've been doing that for years - so I might try the Pukka one for a few weeks to surprise my innards!! Why don't we all report back in a few weeks and see what's worked for us all

icanhandthemback Mon 18-Jan-21 14:02:03

It's not getting to sleep, it's staying asleep I have a problem with. Even when I do sleep, my deep sleep is minimal until the morning when nothing in the world would wake me. I think I need to move to the other side of the world!

Buffy Mon 18-Jan-21 14:20:03

Thank you Missfoodlove. Can’t wait to try it.

TerriBull Mon 18-Jan-21 14:29:21

I'll try anything, so far I've tried Nytol, something called "Sleepy" a product bought in Lush, a pillow spray named "This Works", it didn't! lavender oil on pillow, CBD Oil for sleep inducement, all without success. I would absolutely love to go all though the night again.

After trying many things, have been taking a couple of drops of Bach Flower Remedies White Chestnut for the past week or so, working so far.

After decades of sleep problems, sometimes being so awful that it has affected the quality of my life badly...I have started to take Magnesium Citrate.

I've tried almost every other over the counter medication melatonin and teas etc without any improvement, only Zolpidem has kept my life on track.

But after taking the Magnesium Citrate for 3 months now I can honestly say that my sleep has improved a lot. I go to sleep more easily and stay asleep. Some mornings I wake a bit too early...[though I feel fine the next day, not ill like I used to]. But usually I get about 7 hours sleep.

A lot of us are magnesium deficient...it helps with regulating blood pressure, muscle function, constipation, anxiety, headaches/migraines etc. etc. and general bodily functions.

I take CBD oil twice a day - works like a dream!! I now sleep 7 - 8 hours a night .

It will take more than a cup of weak Watery tea to get me to sleep well.

Have tried most herbal teas and mostly they taste revolting.

Chamomile tea is the weakest I have tried, even with the addition of ginger or other flavourings. So, good luck with that ladies.
It’s all just a con to make us think we will sleep ok if we buy and drink these overpriced watery substances.
If you suffer from insomnia, then I’m afraid it just won’t cut it.

Happysexagenarian Mon 18-Jan-21 16:22:16

I've just ordered some Pukka Nightime from Holland and Barratt for DH. Of course if he doesn't like the taste if might be a waste of money. Can you put milk with it?
Thank you for the recommendation MissFoodLove.

Lush Sleepy body cream is great.

AlisonKF Mon 18-Jan-21 17:00:53

Try valerian tablets fron Savers. You may be a bit dozy the next day. I have slept so badly since lockdown, I just turn on the loght and read for an hour or so apart for having to use the loo once or even twice. Live alone so it doesn't matter except when I have to get somewhere by taxi.

Purpledaffodil Mon 18-Jan-21 17:10:32

Sadly I’ve tried most of the above including the Pukka night time without any effect. Magnesium didn’t work for sleep but stopped awful foot cramps which was something. So it’s Boots Sleepeazy which I take occasionally when desperate or Night Nurse. DD and friends used the latter when they were cabin crew who were expected to sleep at odd times and appear looking glamorous at 3am. ?

moggie57 Mon 18-Jan-21 17:14:55

i tried sweet dreams teabags , they come from usa but they certainly work

David0205 Mon 18-Jan-21 17:43:05

If I can’t sleep for some reason I just take a couple of paracetamol, seems to relax me and I do feel more refreshed next morning. I first tried it on long flights which I couldn’t sleep on (when we were able to fly).

Tessa1 Mon 18-Jan-21 17:58:55

Hi MissFoodLove, thank you for posting, what time do you take the tea at night please? I am going to get some for DH, but not sure if it might still wake him i.e. getting up in the night to pee, got nothing to lose though cause he wakes x 3 anway and stays awake for ages

FannyCornforth Mon 18-Jan-21 18:04:08

It's fabulous that op has found something that works for her.
But I'm astounded at all the posters who believe that it is a sleep panacea!

adnilc Mon 18-Jan-21 18:55:18

I use these Pukka bags and did sleep better, but unsure if it's the placebo effect though

Sparklefizz Mon 18-Jan-21 19:13:51

I watched a TV documentary about insomnia years ago, and one of the things was how much our minds influence our sleep, eg. if we think we are not going to sleep, then we don't, and they did some tests to prove this.

I have to actively stop myself being negative if I can't get off to sleep, or if I wake up in the night. If I start thinking "Oh God, look at the time. I'll never get back to sleep", then I'm doomed.

I read somewhere that it's good to have a "sleep story" to tell yourself, so I launch into my sleep story and find that 80% of the time I can get back off to sleep. Sometimes I also do some mental Qi Gong and visualise myself going through one of the "exercises" and this works too.

But having said that, since March with all the stress of living alone and shielding during lockdown, I don't feel up to risking a sleepless night and the subsequent after-effects, so I take Valerian drops and either Phenergan or Zopiclone before bed every night. I try to follow the same sleep regime - supper, close up, bed with a book and the cat, lights off at the same time.

Puzzled Mon 18-Jan-21 19:20:18

Our regime is ONLY decaff tea or coffee after mid afternoon.
Wrongly, we watch TV until about 10:45. Into nice warm bed (God bless the inventor of electric blankets) Lights out between 11:00 and 11:15. Try not to have conversations.
Sleep until about 04:00, often until 06:00 than stagger to the toilet, before dozing for at least another hour.
If I do wake and cannot get back to sleep, I get on this thing!
Oh for the days when love making was our sedative of choice!
