The secret to a good nights sleep....

For about 10 years a good nights sleep has been a rare pleasure.
I’ve tried OTC tablets, meditation, diet and pillow sprays with varying results.
Finally I think I’ve found the solution in a tea bag!
It’s a well known organic brand that has a night time tea.
I’m sleeping like a log.....just hoping it lasts.
Has anyone else discovered this little bag of magic?

I tried the tea last night but unfortunately it didn't work for me. I found it ok to drink so will keep using it whilst I have some left out of my stock.

I checked the Phenergan packet that I have, and have been using 25mg,no surprise I have been knocked out by it. Half a tablet works for me,thank you to Esspee for suggesting it,I will keep to that as 1/4 tablet doesn't do it at present. I do try not to use it every night and do hope that when life is back to normal I will need to use it less than I am now.

I didn’t know you could buy phenergan tablets. I’ll never forget, as an exhausted new mother, giving my daughter some phenergan to get her to sleep and feeling so guilty about it. My main problem is constantly getting up in the night to go to the loo no matter how little I drink. I wake up the next morning feeling exhausted. And yet, during the daytime when I’m drinking more I hardly need to go. I know as soon as I-wake up if I’ve had enough sleep. If I haven’t I might as well give up on achieving anything throughout the day. And yet, late at night I suddenly feel wide awake.

I have always been a poor sleeper and tried all the usual tricks with no success until my husband bought me a weighted blanket this Christmas. It has improved my sleep hugely. Now if I wake up in the night I soon go back to sleep. Might not work for u if you have hot flushes but it certainly has helped me.

You have to ask the Pharmacist for Phenergan and tell them you want it for Insomnia before you can buy it.

Weighted blankets sound interesting. I wonder if my cat sleeping on top of me works in the same waysmile

Tea pig teabags are plastic.

I LOVE my weighted blanket. Bought it in November 2019 and it is brilliant. I look forward to getting under it every night.

Just a tip - rather than struggling to get the cover off it to put it in the wash, I use a top sheet with the weighted blanket on top of that, then I only need to change the top sheet.

MayBee. You’ve brought memories back there. My first born was a very poor sleeper the Dr gave me phenergan, all it did was make him miserable next day. Also the chemist used to sell “ shut eye” for children. Don’t suppose it would be allowed nowadays.

I’ll be buying some tomorrow ?

Well the nice delivery guy from Asda brought me some of the Pukka sleep tea today. I'm drinking it right now! I'm not over the moon with the taste, it has a very sweet aftertaste? Maybe the liquorice, I'm not sure. It smells like a heated up lavender wheat bag! If it works I'll knock it back regularly, but if it doesn't, it will be passed on to someone else to try! But thanks for the tip Missfoodlove. Thanks also to whoever suggested going through things alphabetically. For the last 2 nights I've been naming David Bowie tracks beginning with each letter and haven't got past M so far! This seems to work for me as I'm a bit of a worrier and as soon as my head touches the pillow, my brain goes into overdrive. Anyway, here's to a good nights sleep tonight!

Programme on BBC now about anxiety and insomnia....

I buy pheneragan and Nytol from online pharmacies such as UKMeds as I'm pretty much housebound.
I was quite sceptical about doing so, but I've bought quite a few medications online and their service is faultless.
It seems that most UK online pharmacies are based in Nottingham.

Antihistamines help me and I often have one called polaramine which you have to get at the chemist. Tried valerian etc but no good.I have prescription ones for if I’m desperate but I don’t like to take them more than once a week for fear of addiction.

Probably based at the Boots factory in Nottingham.

Well, I had another good nights sleep after drinking the tea. And I’ve had two boxes from the Tesco’s delivery as well.

Missfoodlove Fri 22-Jan-21 13:32:19

MayBee70 That’s great news, if it’s helped one person for a couple of nights then my post was worth it?.

I tried the nighttime berry with good results last night, I prefer the taste.

I can recommend the Avon lavender sleep pillow spray . Also I have the free Borrowbox app on my phone which links to your local library and I listen to one of the books to send me to sleep .You can set it to switch off after so many minutes. It’s lovely listening to a book while you fall asleep .

I've tried the Avon and the This Works pillow sprays and they didn't work for me. One of them did lure a massive hibernating bee out of wherever it was hiding and onto my pillow in the early hours, but that wasn't what I was hoping for!

But I was sent a Rituals deep sleep pillow mist as a free gift in my recipe box this week and have slept like a baby two nights running after using it. I'm hoping it's not just a coincidence.

Last night I moved to a different bedroom in my home, took 1/2 a Phenergan, and woke up 12 hours later!
Not sure why this worked but perhaps it was psychological?
Leaving an area associated with sleeping badly to a neutral area perhaps?

Had another Pukka tea last night, had a good nights sleep, best for a long while.

I did take two dispersible Panadol earlier as I'm having trouble with neck/shoulders, so not sure if it was a combination.

I did dream an awful lot though, but I tend to anyway, only got up once for loo.

But will be trying it again tonight (will have to set alarm though as working tomorrow) !

Thank you miss food love I had some last night and slept a lot better! Going to make it a nightly habit. Thanks for sharing x

Gwenisgreat1 Sun 24-Jan-21 10:09:28

Unfortunately I have an allergy to chamomile!! so I try to avoid it.
Might try again, however, since some of my allergies seem to have gone.

ctussaud Sun 24-Jan-21 10:10:24

I haven’t read all six pages of this thread, but recommend Celestial Seasonings Nighttime tea to assist good sleep. From memory, it is made by Buddhist monks in California. I get it from Amazon.

Teddy123 Sun 24-Jan-21 10:16:34

I'll definitely try it. Thanks for the recommendation ?

SarahT Sun 24-Jan-21 10:17:38

I use Dr Stuart’s Valerian tea if I need to knock myself out. Otherwise I use Twinings Sleep tea, which doesn’t have any valerian (the knock out bit) or Yogi bedtime tea, which has fennel, chamomile and valerian root. Lots of sleepy teas out there to explore! Enjoy.
