What's your morning routine? ?

Are you someone who gets up the minute your alarm goes off? Or are you a snooze button enthusiast like me? What’s the first thing you do when you’re out of bed - is it tea/coffee and breakfast or do you like to have a leisurely morning? Do you find that your routine has changed with lockdown?

No alarm unless we need to - doctor’s appointment, that sort of thing. I usually get up about 7.30 and go to the kitchen collecting the newspaper from the porch on the way. DH has OCD, especially about food, following mental health problems years ago so there follows a strict routine. I take him a cup of tea at about 8 and prepare his breakfast of half a grapefruit followed by 6 prunes, then 50g of Bran Flakes with extra raisins. He dresses and comes downstairs, on the way placing mug in the kitchen and filling the kettle for his next cup of tea, which he makes immediately he has finished breakfast. While it brews he places breakfast things in the dishwasher, then retires to his favourite armchair with his tea. My own breakfast fits into this somewhere! Deviation from this can cause problems, and having visitors or staying in hotels is difficult. I’m just used to it.

Another retired person who only uses the alarm if I have to be up early.

Otherwise lie for a while giving and receiving a morning cuddle from the cat, get up, dress, roll up the blinds, go downstairs and wash my face brush my teeth and do my hair.

I have never been a morning person, so I shower at night.

Drink the coffee that DH an early riser has made, wash yesterday's dinner dishes, make beds and do my morning exercise routine for trying to get rid of stiffness in my shoulders and neck. Move on to combatting flabby tummy!
Stiff knees etc,

After that look at the weather and decide on the rest of the day's activities.

I don’t set an alarm. I wake up about 0700 and get some coffee to take back to bed. Then I do some puzzles to get the brain going and read the news.
After that it’s bathroom and breakfast before the day ahead.

I prefer to wake up naturally when I can and only use an alarm if I need to be up particularly early. I hate the feeling of knowing you have to get up and be somewhere when you know you would have enjoyed a little longer sleep. If there is no rush on a morning I love to take my time over a fresh coffee and either read a book/paper or e/mails. Give me that time for myself and I'm usually good to go after that.

I am retired, so time is my own. I sleep in fits and starts, so am often sound asleep when husband brings a cup of green tea. I ignore it and carry on sleeping. When I finally wake, I drink a cup of cold tea and try to work out what day it is and if I need to do anything. Usually nothing on, so consider what positive thing to do with the day. Housework? boring! Gardening? too cold, wet or windy! A walk? on the days I feel fit enough! I try to do a few back strengthening exercises if I feel well enough - not every day. Read, jigsaw, artwork? More appealing! Stay in bed for a while why I make my mind up.

Wake up about 6.30 am by our lovely teasmaid. Have always had one and wouldn't be without it. Chance for a chat with my husband. Then 20 mins exercises. Mixture of Pilates and Yoga. If I don't do them I really regret it, and feel much stiffer.

I wake about 7 am and put the kettle on for a much needed cup of coffee, I will put on the TV and watch the news (a lot more quieter now the lovely Piers has gone !) Then I take tea and toast up to my OH around 9:30 when he gets up.
In the summer I will sit in my garden and just listen to birdsong.

I automatically wake around 7 am ....always up by around 7.10 am. Drink a large glass of water and head for the bathroom where I wash my face and pull on my work out clothes.

Downstairs to make a cup of tea, drink it, quickly scan emails and then take myself downstairs again into my basement work out room for a virtual fitness or yoga class that begins at 8 am.

Started this routine the first day of lockdown and have continued on - until now it’s just second nature. Wards off stiff joints and more than anything I value this time to myself and to sort out my thoughts. Can’t see this routine changing any time soon.

Wake up when alarm goes off at 6:30, press snooze until getting up at 7. Pull on joggers and trainers to take the dog out. Coffee followed by a shower, hair washed then second longer dog walk before starting work at 9. Lockdown has definitely changed my routine. Pressing snooze and Breakfast while starting up the laptop instead of a half hour drive to work. Not sure I want to go back to the office.

Usually wake up between seven and eight; one of us makes coffee. Checkout the Good Morning thread and put in my threepenn’orth. Read my emails and a bit of news. The one who didn’t make the first coffee gets up and makes the second! Before lockdown we would probably plan some long days out which would involve us getting up and out early, but for the moment, what’s the hurry?

During lockdown there is no need to set an alarm. I wake up later than I used to and make a pot of lemon tea which I drink in bed. I take medication which means I cannot eat for 30 minutes so I luxuriate in bed reading, Eventually I get up and have a healthy breakfast and get on with my day.

Well I would sleep all day and night if it were left to me so after 9 hours sleep I DO try to get up, as I think it can be bad for your health to sleep over this time, but I DO often turn over and try to continue sleeping. I always tend to have my breakfast first as I have a very cold bathroom and dread getting undressed for my shower, so the longer I can put that off the better. The only time I shower first before breakfast is if I have an appointment. As I have no plans in lockdown my mornings have been very lazy and I could easily spend all morning readings the paper, but force myself to get jobs done.

Up about 6am. Wake son up. Go into kitchen, make coffee, make son's breakfast and packed lunch for school. Make my own breakfast. Son then goes into bathroom to get ready and then me next.

I have two routines. One on a work day and another on a day off.

Workdays, up at 7.30 which isn't too bad (used to be 6am). Shower, blow dry hair, make-up. Into work by 8.15.

Days off. Usually awake by 10. Cup of tea in bed, windows wide open. Lolling around but shower by 11.

I'd like to say that if I didn't work, I would be up at a reasonable time, but I know from experience that isn't true. My bedtime would get later and later, and I would be up at 10 everyday. I'm better with my work routine.

Alarm? Why would I need one - being retired? Routine? Same again, same answer!

Of course, I tolerated a routine when I had to get to work on time (teachers can't be late) but I always resented it.

The only thing I always do is feed the animals. I have no choice, they expect it and pester me until I do.

Then, I follow my mood (and the weather) with a shower, breakfast and dog walk - early or late, in no particular order!

No alarm for me but I do tend to get up at the same time everyday around 7am. Breakfast first watching the news and then a shower and dressing before a bit of housework.

My alarm is set for 6.30am on work days but I am always up before it. Then shower and dress before having breakfast and watching the news. Even on my days off when I don't set an alarm I can't seem to have a lie in.

One of the things I love about being retired is that I don't HAVE to get up at a certain time. I usually get up any time between 7-9am and the first thing I do is have breakfast and then, according to what I have planned for the day, I either shower and dress and head out or check my emails on the computer and potter around until later in the morning when I shower and dress. I really don't like being woken by an alarm and am always very annoyed when I have to set one. (To ensure I don't have to do this I always make dentist and hairdressing appointments for later in the day).

After my DH has brought me a cup of tea and my tablets, and I let them take affect, I will rise around 7, and we listen to the radio, and my DH will walk the dog, get the morning paper, and we try to finish the crossword before lunch.

I always set the alarm and usually snooze it once or twice. Then it's bathroom routine, breakfast and start the day.
DH is usually still in bed whilst all this is going on. I don't think he even hears the alarm!

I get up 3 hours before my OH, and will take the dog out for a quick wee, whilst the kettle is on, have my cuppa and overnight oats, then whatever the weather -take my labrador out for a walk - sets me up for the day !
I love this time of the day.

I naturally wake up between 9-10am, but I am like a zombie for the first couple of hours, banging head, brain fog, cannot think straight. I am often very stiff joints, I have fibromyalgia and severe arthritis so my main aim is trying to get to the loo quick enough and getting the joints to get me there without having an accident. Hubby usually brings me a coffee, which I sip in between regular toilet trips every ten mins during the first few hours. I like silence, no talking while I get my head in gear and very gradually by lunchtime am sociable enough to be able to hold a conversation. I have never been a morning person. I often would drive kids to school in my PJ's mainly due to having terrible restless sleep causing lethargy during daytime.

Wake around 7ish, lie in bed listening to the Radio till about 8.30, sometimes dozing off again.
Then get up, have tea and biscuits and my meds.
Open up GN to the Good Morning thread, read everyone's news then write my own. If I can see what I'm doing as there is usually a cat on my lap!
Check emails and weather forecast.
Shower and dressed around 9.30 - 10.

When I was teaching, up around 6am, make sure that DH and DC were up in time for work/school, in school for 8am, so my routine now is luxury!
