How are things in practice now that Monday 19 July 2021 has arrived?

Had to go to a Mall yesterday and most people were wearing masks and sticking to the one way systems.

I overheard a group of three ladies without masks saying "well we're not doing anything wrong are we?" They were looking round at all the mask wearers and they did look as if they felt uncomfortable not having theirs

Yesterday was not very different really. Still masks in Morrisons gel etc being used by most. Everyone still respecting personal space as it should be anyway. But as usual there's always one...... Someone almost leapt onDH back when he nipped to Aldi for beer. It was an old bloke apparently and DH asked him if he wanted a piggy back! Bloke duly apologised (coward, DH ex cop so has "the look"!) Some folks are just plain rude, pandemic or not, I'll still have my say if anyone is rude enough to be in my personal space, B.O. halitosis, that odour of "I've not washed my clothes in soooo long" that actually clings if too close yuk! I'd welcome social distancing as the norm!

I’m having more problems with the sun than the virus at the moment. I reached home after my morning walk feeling distinctly off in that ‘touch of heat stroke’ way. The same thing happened on a very warm afternoon in mid June. I used to love the sun, b****r old age!

Masks at the gym again today, except for one couple-but they were busy kissing -a mask would not have helped.
Masks at Sainsburys-many schools are out now and I felt sorry for the mums and dads suddenly faced with keeping track of children whilst wearing a mask.

Kamiso Tue 20-Jul-21 11:53:21

Drat! See it coming!!

Diane318 Tue 20-Jul-21 11:53:13

19th may have been Freedom Day for some. Unfortunately, I got "pinged" on that day, so no freedom for me!

Kamiso Tue 20-Jul-21 11:52:51

I caught the bus and must have been day dreaming as I didn’t seen it coming! I got on the bus with my mask in my hand and the glares from the other passengers soon alerted me to my mistake! I actually felt a sense of relief that the rules were being taken seriously and everyone had a mask on.

Waitrose today and I only saw one person without a mask.
The sanitizing points have been cut back to just the one by the entrance. I never use a trolley, I gun the shopping and put it in my own bag.

Aepgirl Tue 20-Jul-21 11:26:32

Most people I have seen in shops etc are still wearing masks.

Went to Aldi yesterday only one shopper not wearing a mask, when we were at the checkout l noticed he looked round and appeared to be embarrassed that he was the only shopper maskless, l don't think he expected to be in the minority, there was a good mix of ages too not just us oldies

Tuesday now,, people I see , mostly wearing masks

my interpretation of this... well this hot weather is keeping quite a few of us indoors..

and the pinging! well,, come on,, am I the only one that can see what Boris is doing? he , ie the Government, isn`t locking us down. the pinging is doing that for him, and that is what he is after,, not me Guv! all down to you lot now!

Daftbag1 Tue 20-Jul-21 11:01:48

Are we not in lock down? We are except we are moving on Thursday so there will be more bodies than usual. We will continue to take precautions not from fear but as responsible adults.

Amberone Tue 20-Jul-21 10:55:23

Even on Saturday I found that a lot less people were wearing masks, haven't been anywhere since then. On Saturday I noticed they were taking up the one way system stickers off the floor at the shopping centre and, I expect, in the shops, which doesn't bother me as few people followed them anyway.

Our masks will be staying on in public places for the foreseeable future and we'll continue to stay away from crowded places. Not a problem for either of us.

aggie Tue 20-Jul-21 10:54:29

I was going into the supermarket yesterday and an awld biddy with a mask under her chin cackled at me with my mask on properly , she sneered … are you afraid of gettin sick ? I muttered .. put your mask over your nose , felt a tug on my shirt and a furious DD was pulling me away !
Must say most others were wearing masks properly

123kitty Tue 20-Jul-21 10:53:33

Don't know, I haven't left the sunny garden to find out.

Alison333 Tue 20-Jul-21 10:50:35

I went into the centre of our market town in the south of England yesterday and nearly everybody was wearing masks in shops and even in the street.

In the covered shopping centre everybody was walking up one side and down the other even though the central black marking tape had been removed and the centre staff that used to patrol the walkways had all vanished!

It seems pretty clear to me that the majority think that it is not safe to drop precautions yet.

Theoddbird Tue 20-Jul-21 10:40:25

Suowemarkets are asking that people wear masks. I will be going to village coop later and I will wear a mask. Everyone I know...bar one...has said they will continue to wear a mask. He just does not get that even though double jabbed he could still catch covid and maybe pass it in to his young daughter.

Good to hear many are still wearing masks. We still have to here in Wales.

Fennel Mon 19-Jul-21 15:47:07

I went to town this pm on the bus wearing a mask, as most passengers did.
The main difference was seats which had previously been closed off because of social distancing were now used.
In the bank and tesco still masks and social distancing rules.
I also noticed that most older people wore masks. most younger people didn't.

Franbern Mon 19-Jul-21 15:40:34

Did my usual weekly shop at Sainsbury earlier this morning. Everyone then were wearing masks - but mainly older people shopping at that time and they are likely to be more cautious.
The large entrance/exit had now been opened as one area again, but hand and trolley sanitisers were still there - had noticed fewer and fewer people have been using those over past months. I was disappointd to see that they had taken down the plastic creen at the zapper payment area - I really liked the privacy that those little cubicles awarded us and hoped they would stay in place.
TBH, it is too hot to go to see how the town centre is coping today - once back home I have stayed in the relative peace and coolness of my flat.
Do not think for most people it will make a large difference, but probably the younger people will take the opportunity of having parties etc.

cornishpatsy Mon 19-Jul-21 14:28:38

I have just come back from town where most people were still wearing masks in stores and changing rooms were still closed in Next.

So envious Ellianne I would love to visit the Donkey Sanctuary we do support them but have not been able to visit. Sorry veering off piste.

If you want to post things that stray off-topic, please feel free to do so. Same for everybody else as well. Quite alright in this thread.

I went to other side of town this morning to collect some tent poles. I used the bus so took two buses there and the same to return. I was pleasantly surprised that almost everyone was wearing a face mask. It seems that large numbers of the public are still wearing them.
