Hi
Can anyone recommend a good probiotic supplement please.

Many thanks
Junie

I drink a small glass of kefir every day and take a sachet of bimuno added to my coffee. (Both recommended by Dr Michael Moseley.)

Bio Kult is excellent.

Home made sauerkraut is supposed to be one of the best but any fermented food will help. I’ve found kefir in the international food section on Morrison’s to be ok but kombucha is not for me.

Here’s a link to probiotic foods

Why buy supplements when it can just be eaten?

Does live yoghurt count?

Or Activia Gut Health yogurt? I’m a bit hesitant to take the proper probiotics as I read it may not be safe, as they are actual bacteria.

Aveline Wed 29-Sep-21 12:21:30

Our guts are full of good and necessary bacteria. Not all bacteria are bad!

Shinamae Wed 29-Sep-21 12:29:01

I take an actimel shot every day….

Check the sugar content of yoghurts like Activia or of Actimel as it will defeat the object of taking it.

Sometimes you would need to eat a ton of sauerkraut in order to get enough probiotics, plus homemade is better than shop bought (which is often pasteurised in order to sell it, which kills off the good bacteria), and some people just don't have the time to make it.

Most bacteria are good.

Marks and Spencer do a delicious fresh kimchi (fermented). Full of prebiotic goodness. I can recommend it. ?

Blondiescot Wed 29-Sep-21 13:30:15

Symprove. It is expensive, but it is one of the few probiotics which has been proven to real the gut intact. I can honestly say it has proved life changing for me.

I think so as it’s used to make homemade yoghurt

These are the best.

After a year on antibiotics my doctor recommended these.
The yoghurts are not effective as you would have to consume so many.
