I was musing this while playing lego with DGS this afternoon.
Pro life individuals claim to be anti abortion because they want to protect the life of the unborn baby, but resent public spending on the baby once it is born. They're judgemental about single-parents. In the US, they want to deny access to free contraception to women, BUT refuse to hold men accountable for paying child support. Doesn't sound very pro anything to me.
Gender critical individuals claim to 'follow the science' but then refuse to accept any science that shows that human and animal life forms are born in categories other than just male and female. They're critical of other cultures that have accepted alternative gender expressions beyond the binary. While claiming not to be totally anti trans, they want to shut off any access to support or treatment (the hooha about the Tavistock Clinic and Kiera Bell) at a point in a young person's life where it could help them avoid developing the unwanted sexual characteristics of the gender they want to transition from. After all that, they will only accept trans individuals who are 100% post surgery, despite not wanting those individuals to be able to access surgery, hormones or treatment. They also deny the evidence and existence of these individuals historically, prefering to see the visibility of trans as a patriarchal plot to deny cis women their rights.
I'm sceptical. It is a 'damned if you do and damned if you don't' position for trans individuals within the eyes of the gender critical, in my opinion.
Let the battle commence.

What exactly did I say that was rude?
btw it's not an insult it's a fact. you start a thread.then anything you deem to difficult you won't answer. .why?
Well I asked a question you choose to ignore. ,Why is that
GrannyMacawell
Oh hi.....just gonna start a thread any question I cant answer because it will basically make me look like twot I won't answer. I will say this is because I want discussion.
to be clear..A human cannot change sex. However much someone wants it to be true,
If you want to throw insults, don't expect a response. Rudeness isn't intelligent debate.

Does anyone have a link to the numerous articles written by those with a dsd who explain how offensive it is to them to think they are a third sex, Claire Graham is a very articulate voice on this.
Do you think they're a third sex? I certainly don't. Sex is a continuum and we all reside somewhere on it. Life is easier for us if we're at one side, or the other. Look at the XX athletes with naturally elevated levels of testosterone. Perfectly natural. But enough natural testosterone to be a performance enhancer. Denied the ability to compete in female sport.

It is a myth that humans (and animals come to that) are all XX or XY, and that we have stable hormone balances that define us as male/female.
is it? prove this.

I have an opinion and its not based on fact.
. I have an opinion that unicorns are real, I probably wouldnt advise that laws are based around this opinion.

If a baby's sex is unclear when they are born, or if they do not develop as expected at puberty, it can be medically determined which sex they are and what their genetic variation is.
People with genetic variations are not usually the ones who are making demands.
If they were, that would be a miniscule proportion of the population.
Those making the demands for 'recognition' are mostly people who have been clearly female or male all their lives but who say they 'feel' that they should be the opposite sex, or that they should be allowed to choose which sex most represents their 'feelings' at any particular time.
Some people with XX chromosomes can genitalia that looks like a penis, or labia that look like a scrotum. Some XY people may have external genitalia that appear female.
Some individuals have a range of XX & XY chromosomes throughout their bodies (I know a person like this). How would this individual's 'sex' be determined?
It is a myth that humans (and animals come to that) are all XX or XY, and that we have stable hormone balances that define us as male/female.
I have an opinion (and it is not based in fact), that if we all had our chromosomes tested at birth, we would discover that a far greater proportion of us are actually somewhere in the middle.
You are right that in the past it was left to the surgeon and/or parents to choose.
That is known to have turned out badly in some cases, when they got it wrong.
Nowadays, there is chromosomal testing.

A genuine question, does anyone know what the scientific view of the chromosome says? In my own musings, I've thought that when babies are born hermaphrodite, it has always been left to the surgeon and/or parents to choose. So if a simple blood test is available to determine e chromosome male or female I would have thought the medics would advise to go with that. So chromosome don't mean either as well?
I didn't say you were shallow, I said your understanding of the subject seemed shallow. You seem to have no understanding of what gender critical is. I am not critical of other societies which have 'alternative gender expressions', I think anyone should be able to.express themselves in any way they want. I just dont think it means they have changed sex.
But they are sweeping untrue statements about a group of people . Saying things are inaccurate is perfectly reasonable.
Galaxy
Gagajo. You have not answered any questions, the information you have posted is inaccurate, your understand ing of the topic appears shallow, I am not sure you are in a position to question whether people have thought about this issue.
Galaxy, I'm busy working. I'm dipping in and out. I'm not 'leading' this discussion, just dipping in occasionally. Telling me to 'stick with the lego' is nothing whatsoever to do with the topic and is merely an insult. As are your comments calling me 'inaccurate' and 'shallow'.
So no, the lego comment wasn't thought out. My comments, few they might be, but are at least on topic.
And I will not meet insult with insult. That way, banning lies.
Back to work.
Jackiest you know that hospital wards, prisons, many refuges are already accepting men who say they are women as if they are actual females?
Urmstongran
My brain can’t cope with all this so I ignore it.
In the hope it dies down and goes away.
same here Urmstongran I find it overwhelming & I just consider myself lucky that I'm not confused about myself.
I did go through some confusion growing up I think most people do when going through puberty etc but I'm happy to have stayed the sex/gender that I was naturally born & truly thankful for that, this world is a cruel & pushy place at these days.
'Protected spaces refers to public conveniences, changing rooms, hospitals etc.Places where women are changing or removing clothing or using WC or otherwise need personal privacy.
It has nothing to do with social gatherings of any sort, from book clubs, rambling clubs or any of the other groups you mention.
I am not sure who was talking about book clubs. Certainly when I talk about sex segregated spaces I am talking about prisons refuges and sport.
FarNorth
Jackiest being female is your biological sex, not your gender.
Gender identity is a new-fangled notion that seeks to supersede sex.
By 'protected spaces' do you mean places such as hospital wards, women's refuges, female prisons?
Do you think those places being single-sex is not necessary and they should be mixed-sex?
No I mean women groups that are not there for privacy like hospital wards or safety like refuges but things like book clubs, rambling groups, or any other social group where really it should be the person's character that matters not their biological sex. I don't need protecting from men when discussing a book. Although I can think of a few women in the book club that I need protecting from when they start ranting.

I will stick to gender only meaning what role I have in producing children and is irrelevant for everything else. I even find it rather insulting that people should think that I need special protected spaces just because I am female. Privacy yes but protected, no more than any person needs whether they be male or female.
