Cutting a long story short I have (at last!!) been given a date for a new hip. It will be my first proper operation so feel relieved and happy but nervous ?, All I was told at the hospital was it would be a 48 hour stay.
I don’t know anyone who has had this done and wonder if anyone with experience has suggestions or advice about what they found helpful either before or after the operation or useful aids, or anything about the whole process. Thanks ?
It's a beautiful day and I'm in the garden trying to do a few jobs and I could scream the pain in my lower pain down both thighs and the stiffness is so bad. Not lo g till my op in July and I just hope one the operation pain goes I will be able to work in my beloved garden, wall to town and go up stairs without feeling like I'm climbing a mo
Sorry pressed to soon. With out feeling like I'm climbing a mountain.!!! Have got myself so worked up into a state have a real bad head ache now as well!!!!
Hello travels, I assume it’s a mountain you are climbing.....yes I am in the garden too. It’s a lovely day. Not long to wait now, and yes, after a few weeks you will be well on the way to being able to garden. It’s 10 weeks since mine and I have been bending down without feeling I may go pop. Best of all, you will be pain free.
have a rest, a nice cool drink, take a paracetamol just to feel you are doing something and enjoy the garden from a comfy chair, and don’t worry, all will be well.
Just noticed we are on 957 posts, now 958. Woukd be great to hit 1000. Good wishes to all who are waiting for, those who are recovering from and those who have completely recovered after hip replacement surgery.
I think we'll be hitting the thousand in no time as we wait for news of Fanny's adventures. I've thought of her often and hope that all has gone well for her. Looking forward to 'Hip replacement pre/post operation pls' volume 2 ready for iPadGrandmatravelsafar and anyone I might have missed. I too am out in the garden, eternally grateful for my life changing surgery. And actually, super grateful as the guy who did my hip is going out to teach his skills in Robotic assisted surgery in the Middle East for 6 months, shortly after I've had my 6 month follow-up. For once, my timing has been good.
July is not far off now travelsafar . Just think, this time next month it will be over (before 20th?) and you'll be resting and recuperating happily in your lovely garden.
No, Jennifer I have been looking out for her too, but its only a few days and I know I felt pretty dreadful fir the first week or so. High temperature in a heatwave etc, If you are reading this Fanny, hope all went well. Looking forward to hearing from you.
My big news is that today fir the first time I sat down on the grass to do some weeding. Was frightened and regretted almost immediately, so weeded for longer than planned, but with the aid of dh and a garden chair, I managed. Next time will do it on my own.
Yes it’s very early days and she may have lots of friends and family to text and call. The days in hospital went surprisingly quickly I found. There seemed to always be something going on - meals, hot drinks, blood pressure taken as well as the dreaded physiotherapy walks! Oh yes and my hip was X-rayed before I went home.
Or perhaps on further consideration, I wont repeat the exercise. Aveline you are probably right ( I was scared) but what do others think? If you are post op by a couple if months have you/do you sit on the floor? Second question, if so, how best to get up?
Ok. I haven’t sat on the floor since my op, now six months ago! I do kneel down as touch wood my knees are ok, but I always kneel near something like a low table or chair to help me get up again! Not that there is any pain in my hips, more to do with a lack of flexibility I imagine!
Oh, right, think i am lucky to have got away with it, probably best not to repeat. At least not this side of Christmas. Ooops sorry, though as from tomorrow nights start to draw in. Ooops I did it again. Enjoy the sunshine if you have it. (Wondering how far down this lands on the active list).
Yup it's me again, its already half way down with much older posts. How dies tgat keep happening? Am off out into the garden so no more from me fir now.
Yes we have sunshine here in Berkshire but I have been busy catching up with laundry, food shopping and chores generally after our holiday in Cornwall.
Hope you had a good time. We are going there in a couple of weeks Jennifer. Really looking forward to it and hoping the sun will still be doing its thing.
Our car broke down on the motorway a couple of weeks ago. It was very scary. We climbed out on to the hard shoulder and there was a steep bank. After an hour or so I just had to sit down. I went down with a thump but getting back up??!! Obviously I managed in the end but it was a, er, sub optimal experience!
Hello! I’m here! I came home yesterday; but I’m not feeling too great (pain and constipation) I haven’t really felt up to posting, but I really wanted to say thanks for all of your kind thoughts ♥️?
