Regarding the worry about dislocation, I was also concerned but I was told that it’s a fairly rare occurrence these days.
Obviously we all have to be careful for the first few weeks, but after that it’s very unlikely, provided we avoid any extreme movements.

I'm having a spinal with sedation. Never had one so a little bit wary...
I don't have a walker so will ask about that, especially at night going to the toilet.
I have to be there for 07.30 so hopefully I'll be on the morning list.
I'll post again when I'm 'on the other side'.

I had a my first spinal and sedation and was fine, didnt see hear or feel a thing, but was awake very quickly afterwards. No need to worry. Look firward to hearing all about it. Good luck

8Aveline* we all know our place and it is usually in the limelight for 3 minutes if we are lucky. Hopefully susietish will find us and ask questions if she wants.

Labradorlinda will have had surgery by now and it will be the post-op pain she is experiencing as the other has vanished. I hope she is having a gentle snooze and not walking up and down the ward in preparation for an early discharge.

Hello everyone, who would have thought a first wee on a bedpan would be so good .
Hope no-one is offended..
Went down at 10, back in room just after 12.
Took 3 attempts to get a cannula in. A bit heavy handed.
Op went ok and all being well will go home tomorrow afternoon.
Will keep you posted.

Ps good to hear about the wee. Well done.

labradorlinda you definitely sound in good spirits. As we said, the gnawing pain has gone, and with time and lots of rest, you can only get better.

It will be more difficult at home but you have all day to do it.

labradorlinda hooray for the op being over and the wee. You'll be even happier after a poo though. Those opiates!!

It hasn't been a good day today
I'm staying another night as when I get up and walk with my frame I feel unwell and light headed.
I haven't done stairs or progressed onto sticks.
I'm back in bed and did manage a nap. In quite a bit of pain .
The staff are angels and I am being well looked after.
Hope everyone is well.

Glad you have the surgery behind you labradorlinda33 and please don't be discouraged. My THR was just over 8 months ago and a total triumph BUT those first few days were really tricky. Make sure that your pain relief is adequate before you are discharged and be gentle with yourself. Everyone's journey is a little bit different. Its still an absolute joy to me that I can put my socks on easily without aids or assistance!

Hang in there labradorlinda. I hope you manage a good night's sleep tonight. The only way is up. (I was kept in an extra night too which I was glad of. I'd not have felt comfortable being discharged while still so lightheaded and nauseous.)

Up early this morning as I have back pain.
Had a lovely cup of tea and some ginger biscuits. Such a simple thing but it was as good as a 5* meal...
Been up on walker to the loo.
Blood pressure on the low side of normal.
It's lovely to have people that know what I'm going through.

After knee replacement I had an issue with very low BP which saw me draped inelegantly over a Zimmer and then kept me in bed for 24 hours labradorlinda. It was explained spinal anaesthetic, sedation and the pain killer I was being given can all lower BP and it would pass soon enough. By the second day BP was back to my normal which is usually low-ish and being a lucky soul I didn’t need the strong pain medication. Discharge went to plan 3 days post surgery. Hang on in there. With luck you’ll feel much better today and being able to move will help the back pain. Hope all goes well now.

I am another with low blood pressure which gets even lower post any procedure requiring sedation or more. Lowest ever was 75/35. That got me a cup of tea and two biscuits which sorted me out.
Today will be better than yesterday but it will take a few days. Had a look at something I wrote in my diary which was a walk of a mile just over a week post op.
Hang onto that. It will happen and sooner than you think.

Posting to bump it up .To all new hipsters , it does seem very challenging at first and you never think you will be back up and running. 7 months now silverlining and I’m so glad I had it done .

Well I've just walked up a steep road then hill to our flats. It took about 30 minutes of hard walking against strong gusts of wind. I arrived at the top feeling very hot and out of breath but nary a twinge from either my new knees or my new hip. That was unimaginable before! Off to get my breath back while feeling very smug.

Hello everyone, I'm back home now and I feel as though I've done a marathon!!
It's easier doing the stairs than just walking about .
My hubby is struggling with his back so we're a right pair .
Feel a bit emotional and weepy too. I know it will get better.
