When I suffer from it I always take iron tablets plus vitamin c tablets to help absorb the iron.

The only thing which has ever helped me, after trying all the home remedies, was a drug called Ropinirole, which is usually used to treat Parkinson's. It took a couple of weeks to work, but it did work and it was bliss being able to get a few hours of uninterrupted sleep.

I often get this, too. I've tried lots of ideas people swear work, but nit magnesium yet!
I can't wear any socks to bed as my feet get too hot, then start itching!
These last few nights have been awful as on top of RLS I've now got sciatica.
I get it in my arms, too, as well as just feet or just hands, and it's just as annoying, especially when all go at once!
My SO asks if I'm ok, I say I'd be fine if I could just detach my legs - or whichever is playing up at the time - and let them dance the night away with each other as I sleep!

This is hard to describe, but I find it helps mid-attack. Stand with bare feet flat on the floor. Slowly raise your feet, stretching them, until you’re standing as though wearing very high heels. Slowly and gradually lower both feet until flat again then slightly rock backwards onto your heels. I do this a few times and find it often works. It only takes a few minutes, then I get back into bed & can get to sleep.

I also find it helps not to wear shoes, or slippers all evening, very loose socks are ok.

In my experience these things also help with peripheral neuropathy.

This is a horrid condition, so I hope these suggestions might help someone.

When it mucks up my sleep, I will get up and get some cleaning done. Moving seems to help and then I tend to go straight to sleep

I very occasionally get this when I’m in bed. It's horrid, that feeling that you absolutely must just move your legs ‘one more time’ except it isn’t enough. I find that if I concentrate on some deep breathing, counting and exhaling more than inhaling, it takes my mind away from my muscles and it goes away. Good luck.

I often get RLS in one leg during the evening but find it goes off when I get to bed. It only seems to strike if I have had insufficient exercise during the day. Try taking a daily half hour walk. It may help. I don't find magnesium makes much difference unfortunately.

I’ve found a couple of simple exercises help. Both start from a lying position so easy to do in bed.

1. Bring the knees up to the chest and wrap the arms round the knees, raising the head from the pillow. Hug knees and straighten out. Do this two or three times.

2. Brnd the legs, bringing heels as close to buttocks as you can. Then raise the pelvis so that the body is in a straight line balanced on shoulders and feet.

Both positions stretch the back muscles and can relieve RLs. Worth a go, at any rate.

Magnesium Cream sounds good idea LIZZIEDRIP....

Oh OP, I too know the misery of restless legs. My sister and daughter also have it, which seems to suggest it runs in the family. The perceived wisdom now seems to be magnesium. I’ve been taking a multi vitamin containing the daily recommended dose of magnesium but I wouldn’t say it’s made much difference really. My daughter has recently started using magnesium cream which she bought online and she says her legs feel somewhat better already? It was quite expensive so I’m going to let her ‘test’ it before I buy some.

Flight socks help me a lot, sometimes putting them on relieves and sometimes if it comes back, taking them off again.

Electric blanket in winter.

Really good sleep routine so that your body knows its time to go to sleep and it doesn't keep you awake

Could it be caused by other medications you may be taking? I was taking an over the counter sleep med that caused terrible restless leg syndrome. I’m sorry that I can’t offer a remedy—I know it’s awful.

I’m currently experiencing prolonged episodes of restless legs. Doesn’t happen every day, say once a week but it goes on for hours, 12 hours today, so far. I take magnesium and resorted to a shower during the night. Has anyone found anything that works/?
