Yes, I know using capitals means shouting!
Shouting is needed for this.

Ladyleftfieldlover, we married in the Seychelles in October 1985. I remember lying on the ground waiting for a bus, I was just so hot. I think I had my C&A nylon shorts on though, not the best fabric!
If we were really worried about the planet heating up maybe we’d do something about the fossil fuel industry, consume less, use public transport more, vote Green etc etc etc
Some of the schools here are closing a few days earlier.

I first married in 76 on 9.10.76 the first drizzly day here in Northwest!!! Should've heeded the omen...? Anyways we ALL sunbathed and got smashing tan in 75 and 76 using Johnson's baby oil or coconut butter from chemists! Never been so brown not even when I went to Carribbean!
UK summers? If not able to stand the heat,We should: stay indoors with windows/curtains/shutters/blinds closed against morning sun on one side with cool side open to vent.then swap around and shut up all the p.m. side to keep air/sun out. Only open up after sundown. All this ridiculous beach malarky! I can think of nothing more uncomfortable than sitting in gritty sand in belting sun next to the world and his wife/kids/dogs/music/smelly food/smelly armpits/ revolting public loos?..... I digress... Nice cool shaded garden/park and lots of fluids, a decent loo close by and a really good book. Wish list saved!
I married at the end of May in 1976. A couple of weeks later we flew to Seychelles where we lived for two years. It was even hotter.

I've been looking through what used to be my tidy cupboard, and found some (white) blackout material that you can cut, and the velcro to put it up with, MadeInYorkshire.
If I could get it to you, is there someone who could put it up for you?MissAdventure Oh how kind, suspect it would help a bit, and yes would have someone to put up for me ... If you message me I can give you my address and Paypal you some postage money?
Does the conservatory have blinds, MadeinYorksire?
We keep ours closed when it's hot.
I think it really would be wise to use the air conditioning, it may only be for a few days.
I’ve got back to back medical appointments on Monday ! Hope the hospitals are air conditioned……
MissAdventure
Yes please then.
Would you make another thread?
Thank you.
The thread is now available.

Probably, we're only trying to find which band it is in, not the exact weight. The bands are quite wide.
I only have a very tiny, cheap scale, stardreamer.
Will that be enough for a medium sized package?
It is worth a read of that advice.
I'm trained in first aid, but havent ever dealt with heat related illness, really.
MissAdventure Shall I start a new thread to try to guide you through Parcel Collect?
Thank you MawtheMerrier it is very kind of you to post that.
MissAdventure
Well, I've had a look, but I don't understand it.
Bugger, I wish I could get to the post office to do it.
It looks as if it would be easier for you to arrange collection, MadeInYorkshire, but the cost probably makes it not worthwhile.
I think I can guide you through it in this thread.
It is worth a try.
Without compromising your anonymity SD which part of the U.K. (approximately ) are you in? Is it going to be within 40C area?
I am 60-70 miles north of London and here, highs of 39 and 37 are forecast.
I imagine you won’t be planning on going out, so the advice being given on skin protection doesn’t apply, but Age Concern advise the following
How to avoid dehydration
Make sure you’re drinking plenty of fluids. Aim to drink 6 – 8 glasses of liquid a day, and more if it’s hot.
Eat a balanced diet to help your body replace any salt you lose by sweating.
Symptoms of overheating
Extreme heat and dry conditions can cause you to dehydrate and your body to overheat.
Watch out for certain signs – particularly for muscle cramps in your arms, legs or stomach, mild confusion, weakness or sleep problems. If you have any of these, rest in a cool place and drink plenty of fluids. Seek medical advice if your symptoms persist or worsen.
Symptoms of heat exhaustion
The symptoms of heat exhaustion include headaches, dizziness, nausea or vomiting, intense thirst, heavy sweating and a fast pulse.
Symptoms of heatstroke
The symptoms of heatstroke include:
confusion
disorientation
seizures
loss of consciousness.
What to do
Heatstroke is a life-threatening condition. If you or someone else shows symptoms:
call 999 immediately, or 112 if you are in the European Union (you can call 112 from a mobile for free)
if you have a community alarm, press the button on your pendant to call for help
while waiting for the ambulance, follow the advice given for heat exhaustion but do not try to give fluids to anyone who is unconscious.
What to do
If you have any of these symptoms you must, if at all possible:
find a cool place and loosen tight clothes
drink plenty of water or fruit juice
sponge yourself with cool water or have a cool shower.
Your symptoms should improve within 30 minutes. If you're feeling better but still have any concerns, call your doctor or NHS 111 for advice.
With adequate preparation - loose light clothing, open windows (but closed curtains on the sunny side), extra fluids, perhaps damp towels, a bowl of cold water for your feet, and only gentle slow movements round the house - yes, by all means lie on your bed if that is comfortable for you, you should not be at serious risk.
There will be loads of useful advice on the NHS website I expect, Age U.K. and others.
I hope you have some kitchen scales as you will need to weigh it to send it from home.

Just your address will be fine, but I have to work out how to get to the post office as I'm not very mobile myself.
I'm sure there might be some sort of service where a parcel can be picked up from someone's home.
Hang on, I'll have a google.
It is called Parcel Collect.
But the website is a bit ambiguous in my opinion.
You need the Send an item tab rather than the Arrange a collection tab. The collect a parcel tab is for returning stuff to the original sender as far as I can tell.
I have studied the process previously as I may need to use it.
LINK > Royal Mail Parcel Collect
Click on Book a collection to get started.
Or use this LINK > send.royalmail.com/
It also can be used for letters. If they bring the label with them it 6 inches by 4 inches and so a DL envelope can be used for a letter.
They will even attach the label for you.
It has been updated since I added (part of). It looks like it is, except for near some "amber" places very near some parts of the coast, now predicted "red" everywhere to some extent,
The map has now got 40 next to London.
Does anyone know what the implications of the temperature being above the temperature of the human body are please?

Stardreamer thank you very much for posting this link.
I hadn't seen a lot of the details before and a lot of it is very relevant to me and my family.
I've forwarded it on to them.
