Anyone heard of, or tried a Better Me diet plan?

An advert appeared on my FB for an armchair yoga diet plan, so I had a look at it. Inevitably it cost money - working out at about a pound a day (it says). Has anyone tried it? And if so, how difficult was it to get out of and most importantly, did it work?

Why pay for Armchair Yoga when you can get it for free by searching t'internet? There are loads of videos which will help. I'm wary of signing up for anything on FB as I have had a couple of misleading adverts for goods which were nothing as shown.

I get those ads too, NfkDumpling. I'm wary of subscriptions, but quite like the idea of an exercise plan I can follow indoors. Also, Mr Dog is vegetarian and diabetic, so I don't really want a diet plan, as I wouldn't use most of the recipes.

I've looked online, but haven't seen anything like the Better Me one.

I suppose I like the comic book image of the woman doing the exercises. She looks exactly like me - all saggy in the same places!

I clicked onto it as I've just had a health check via a similar FB advert which was a genuine one run by our local council. It brought up problems which I'm about to have checked out with the GP. Weight being one of them. I haven't signed up for this as I'm hoping for free Slimmers World sessions! However, I don't hold out much hope as no other diet plan has so far worked long term for me.

It's a Pilates / yoga company Doodledog. The implication of course was that the basic course is free, and it isn't. Not keen on paying for something which doesn't work from somewhere no one has heard of!

If it is Yoga based it is surely more focused on exercise rather than diet, obviously doing both exercise & diet will give better results. There are several good, free yoga classes online, you can do a different one each day, start off gently and progress when you feel comfortable. If you have not done exercise for a while you would be better off in a class where you can be guided on an individual basis so you don't overdo things.

I am currently doing the NHS Weight Loss app, it doesn’t tell you what to eat just counts your calories it’s good and I’m losing weight.

I thought it was a combination of both. I did click on it once for more details and it's one of those where you have to pay a month in advance on a DD basis, although it's advertised as £X a day.

Slimming World is a good way forward and my daughter lost more weight on it than with Bariatric surgery! Of course, with any weight loss programme it is hard to maintain once you get to your target weight but SW is easier than most.

You might find people within your local group who will be able to signpost you to chair yoga.

Your local community centre/gym may run an exercise class based around a chair. You’d meet other people too.

Speaking for myself (obviously others may differ) it's not about meeting people or being chair bound - I'm not. It's more that I am far more likely to stick to something that I can do in my pyjamas with nobody watching. The last thing I feel like doing is going to an organised keep fit class, but I could do with more exercise, which is why it appealed.

I'm like you Doodledog, I'm much more likely to do something in secret with no one watching - but, the surgery have just given me 12 Slimmers World sessions! And I can do them on line! No classes necessary!

Doodledog There are loads of videos online. I used to go to exercise classes (yoga, pilates and zumba) before lockdown and I missed them. I bought a step, some light weights and a mat and I've worked out my own regime. I don't need to lose weight, but I had begun to notice that my muscles needed toning and and my little regime helps. If you don't have a blood pressure/heart rate monitor, it would be worth getting one - and a tape measure for your waist.

Thanks I’ll have another look. I have a BP monitor and an Apple Watch that measures all sorts of things.

If anyone is still interested in this, I signed up today. There is a special offer, and if you express an interest then wait a day or two you get a better deal again. My plan is to cancel before the renewal date, but I'll see how it goes. I had a good poke around, and they will offer a cheaper deal if you say you are going to cancel because it is too expensive, so if it's any good I might do that when my time is up.

I did the first 'workout' tonight, and most of it was stretching the arms and rotating the wrists - things like that. The exercises towards the end of the session were a bit more onerous - the hip rotating one was quite difficult to get right, but not strenuous.

It is unlikely that I will stick to the diet, as it would mean a whole new way of cooking and a new shopping list. The screening questions they asked had me down as a Mediterranean diet (mostly veg with a little meat) but the meals are not the sort of thing we eat. It is very fish heavy, and I don't eat seafood (apart from a very occasional fish and chips at the seaside!). I'll scoot through the recipes tomorrow, and pick out ones that both of us will eat, given that Mr Dog is vegetarian.

Other than the diet and exercises, there are 'challenges', which seem to be more advanced yoga, and details of intermittent fasting, although nothing much I didn't know already. 'Don't eat for 16 hours and eat sensibly during the other 8' can only be said so many ways, can't it?

Anyway, I plan to do the exercises every morning. Apparently they increase in difficulty. As I burned off 47 calories doing today's, which I think that's about one Malteser's worth, I hope so grin.

If anyone's interested I can keep you updated, otherwise it's ok - I won't bore you all with my ungainly progress.
