I’ve never had a cough like the one I’ve got at the moment this is my 6th day and I’m still not able to function properly I just want to lay down all day and sleep. The pain has got a lot better now when I cough but I’m still coughing loads. I don’t have a runny nose or sore throat but I’ve been shivering so I expect I’ve had a temperature. Is this a chest infection? Is Bronchitis? Trying to get a doctors appointment is a no no. I’ve taken 2 covid tests it’s negative. I normally get a cough or cold but function fine I’ve never been bedridden before. My head if I’m honest feel wowsy all the time it’s horrible.

I remember Friars balsam too nana8 and poultices. I wonder if any of the old remedies are still in use?

It may well have been. It’s an old-fashioned remedy, and makes you feel better rather than curing your ills, but we don’t have a cure for a cold and with things like bronchitis even if you have antibiotics you want something to make it less grim until they take effect.

Yes hot poultices- horrible things for if you had boils or a wound. Quite painful, too.

I have had a cough off and on for months I made appointment for telephone consultations for later date. I cancelled three separate appointments as I did feel better each time.
Then it came back I was worried because I felt so bad. I had a dull pain in my chest but my ribs were not aching with coughing. The doctor rang and suggested it was a lung infection given my description of which I will leave out yuk! He prescribed eight strong antibiotics. It took a few days but there was an improvement. It stayed away a couple more weeks now it’s back. I am going to ring the surgery up again. I think whatever it is would have cleared up properly if I was prescribed a longer term on the tablets.
I have to wait now for next phone call I hope you feel better soon and anyone else feeling unwell.

Just a thought but I’ve had coughs that last for ages and I’ve found that a Beconase nasal spray helps because a lot of the coughing is the result of a post nasal drip.

Same here. Tested negative for covid. Now into third week. Head no longer hurts, still slight cough and tight chest.
I always prided myself on being fortunately fit, going to gym etc. This has absolutely floored me. Hoping to get back to gym routine soon but just now exhausted going up stairs.

Just had a phone call from a friend who’s finally come down with covid. It took several tests before it showed up as possitive. I thought the incubation period with omicron was much shorter. She’d recently been vaccinated so I wonder if that’s why it took so long to test negative . She said PCR tests are now over £50!

so what is a small dose. I have been really ill with heavy cold and cough for over two weeks no energy. lateral flow tests two days apart were negative.. I would have thought if it had been covid positive it would be classed as a big dose!

A woman at work has all the symptoms and is really ill and not coming into work obviously but her lateral flow test is still saying negative, waste of bloody time if you asked me..

She had her PCR result today positive..

This current strain seems to testing negative for a long time, but it does eventually show positive. I felt at my worst last Saturday and Sunday, when I was negative. On Monday the test was positive and I began to feel better. Maybe the supermarket tests don't pick it up so readily as the free ones did. If people feel rough and test negative, they shouldn't assume they haven't got it, a couple more days may bring a positive.
