Hello 👋

Here is the new thread!
Thank you to regular and irregular posters all.

Especially those such as Silverling and Charleygirl who have provided so much advise and support. (There are lots of other lovely posters, but too many to list).

As well as advice, there is also much wisdom and kindness.

I will link to the first and second threads below.

Wherever you are on your replacement journey, you are most welcome to join us here smile

downtoearth Mon 24-Apr-23 21:56:09

Thanks SL I have been doing a fair bit of comfort eating yesterday and today
Just want to get on with it now, have had too much time to think about it.

Hope we can make number 1 again

silverlining48 Mon 24-Apr-23 22:52:49

Fat Chance downtoearth but I will give it a go...

silverlining48 Mon 24-Apr-23 22:53:37

Nope 👎

silverlining48 Mon 24-Apr-23 22:55:02

Not even at the end of Active

Good morning all hope everyone is tickety boo, this is the eve of my new hip.
Packing my bag, changing bed , last minute hoovering, and checking all ready for my return.
I am due at the hospital for 7.30am, I am told I am on the morning list.
Tonight I have been told to drink 2x500ml bottles of isotonic sports drink, cant see I will get much sleep as I am on water tablets and will be back and forth to the toilet all night, and the rest of fretting I dont oversleep.
I will keep you updated, and try and bump us up the list periodically while procrastinating instead of doing what I should.

JenniferEccles Tue 25-Apr-23 08:51:40

Best of luck for tomorrow downtoearth.
The first couple of weeks are tough but you will gradually improve day by day. I remember feeling so tired to start with, which was hardly surprising as I really struggled to sleep on my back. Are you having a general anaesthetic or a spinal block?

silverlining48 Tue 25-Apr-23 08:53:27

You will be fine downtoearth, 🤞
Thinking of you and look forward to hearing how it went later. Good luck 😉

downtoearth Tue 25-Apr-23 09:58:13

JE I know it will be tough as I have no one to help me, but I will just have to find ways of doing things that need doing, not looking forward to the back sleeping I am a side or tummy sleeper.
I am have a spinal, a new experience, but my brother had a BK amputation 8 weeks ago by spinal so am reassured.
Also thought with a spinal that I wouldnt have to remove my newly painted finger and toenails, I was soon releved of that notion, I now feel nude with bare nails.
Not looking forward to injecting the heparin everyday.
Thank you everyone for helping keep my spirits up

FannyCornforth Tue 25-Apr-23 14:00:40

Your poor brother, that must have been a worry.
All the very best downtoearth for tomorrow thanks
We’ll be here for you if you need us x

SusieB50 Tue 25-Apr-23 14:34:38

downtoearth I was on my own although my sister stayed for the first night and my son did “meals on wheels” for a few days . You will be tired , I struggled with sleeping but it’s all worth it in the end …

silverlining48 Tue 25-Apr-23 14:41:29

Yes the daily injections are a pain, ditto back sleeping 💤. Put pillows down each side of your body and that should stop
You rolling over.
There have been others on their own and they managed but it’s obviously easier if someone is with you if only for a few days.
Do the minimum, but you will be surprised how much you can do, though getting into bed is a bit awkward.
Just between us, if I say that as soon as I got back home from hospital 36 hours post op I had to sprint upstairs to the loo on an urgent mission due to laxatives the nurse had ‘thoughtfully’ given me just prior to journey home from the hospital.
That may be TMI but it’s just to say that if required, sprinting is possible even at that early stage.

silverlining48 Tue 25-Apr-23 14:43:14

Oh and I did 72,000 steps last week which was an impossible dream prior to surgery.

downtoearth Tue 25-Apr-23 15:16:03

Wow am impressed SL, dont think I have done that amount for many years, something to aim for.
Thanks Fanny, my brother is doing really well, measured up for first prosthetic yesterday, was diabetic foot, with a work injury combo.
I actually think I will be better on my own, no one elses needs to think of, or clear up after I am a pretty tidy soul.
All packed now, just relaxing for a while before time for dinner

silverlining48 Tue 25-Apr-23 16:37:34

Enjoy your dinner 🥘 it will have to last you for a while.
Best wishes for tomorrow. flowers

downtoearth Tue 25-Apr-23 17:40:03

Thankyou x

Charleygirl5 Tue 25-Apr-23 17:47:39

All the very best. Have you got a cleaner sorted out?

I have had knee replacements, several years apart and managed on my own. I hate to say it but I did not care what I looked like as long as I was safe and warm. Time will fly by downtoearth.

downtoearth Tue 25-Apr-23 19:42:14

Thankyou charley, have whizzed round with the hoover just now, mine is pretty easy maintenance, bed changed and ready, if no volunteers will look at a one off clean but my flat is very small, thankyou all for your support and good wishes x

silverlining48 Wed 26-Apr-23 07:39:13

Morning all.
A horse called Hop Hop has been tipped by r4 to win today. MAde me smile 😊

silverlining48 Wed 26-Apr-23 07:41:31

A pity it hadn’t even made it on the Active list though..

JenniferEccles Wed 26-Apr-23 09:56:09

If I was a gambling woman I might have a little flutter on that horse!
Having said that, when I was working years ago, there was always a sweepstake in the office for the Grand National and I do remember having a few wins which was very exciting !

silverlining48 Wed 26-Apr-23 13:13:44

I thought the same Jennifer but like you am not a Gambling woman

FannyCornforth Fri 28-Apr-23 06:30:53

Downtoearth 👋 how’s it going?
I hope all’s well

On a miserable moaning note, I’m still having loads of problems with my foot.
I actually fell over on Wednesday, my ankle gave way.

The GP who I need to speak to is on annual leave, he’ll be back in Tuesday.
I’m going to ask for the steroid injection and I need to be referred back to the Nuffield.
I’m not sure what needs to be done tbh, but I’m thoroughly hacked off with it 🤷‍♀️

FannyCornforth Fri 28-Apr-23 06:33:21

Bump, going by past events, it seems to need three posts to give it a push

FannyCornforth Fri 28-Apr-23 06:33:53

Third time lucky 🍀
