Suzi I agree with your statement about no support,or I find conflicting information. I call it conveyer belt surgery.
Fanny sorry to hear that you are still in pain,I can empathise with horrible pain caused by an imbalanced pelvis as before my op I had worn down so much bone on bone with the hip my pelvis was totally out of line as operated leg was so much shorter.

from your mini breakdown and feel better today.
My news,my bum has healed finally,so dressing free.
I am graduallygetting back to normal,can comfortably manage 6,000 or more steps a day.
My question ,when can I,ànd how should I lay on my unoperated side as sleeping on my back is giving me a back ache now.
I am 6 weeks post op tommorrow.

Morning downtoearth I am sure at 6 weeks I was sleeping on my side but with s pillow between knees to avoid leg dropping too much,
Was only thinking this morning that sleeping on my bank was one of the worst things to cope with.

I missed the bum situation, you must be delighted it’s resolved.

Morning SL will give that a try tonight and see how it feels,saw physio last week and she was really surprised if I have been and can do and dosent really need to see me again,execept for sugning off appointment in 2 weeks.
Advantage of living alone I think,you have to get on and do if you want food,clean clothes,and not live in squalor🙂

If you could fit a pillow behind your back you will find you are more comfortable and less likely to roll backwards inadvertently.

I agree downtoearth I also live on my own and to cope and care for myself I ended up ditching exercises as feeding myself and getting to and from the loo safely was more important after my knee replacement.

I also like to hang clothes outside to dry so that for me was very difficult.

I am trying to work out how I would cope because I need my right hip replaced.

My last physio 3 weeks ago said I was doing well! I can bend to over 90. The problem is the stiffness in the right leg and in the left leg also. Painful too. Getting up several times during the night and struggling to the bathroom.
I seem to be stuck not getting any further. Each day is the same. Trying to use right leg to go upstairs which is a bit easier. I do some of the Versus Arthritis exercises every day.
I feel the new knee is ok, it is just not having the mobility and still using a crutch.
Am I expecting too much ?

For stairs the most useful thing a physio told me was 'Up to heaven and down to hell'. ie good leg up first when climbing stairs but operated leg down first when descending. I found that helped a lot. Also stick used by hand on side opposite operated leg. I'm sure you know this already but just in case.
A 90° bend is not bad btw!

As to steps I always say to myself
Down with the bad
Up with the good.

Charley sounds like you will have the full set.
By thinking through and being prepared does help dosent it,although each new replacement takes its toll as you get older,and your resilience must be harder each time.
I was told up to heaven,down to hell as well.

I am assuming that the stiffness is caused by swelling so each time you sit down you should really be elevating the leg. In theory, it should be elevated above your heart but in practice, I am well aware of how difficult that is.

I have had bil. knee replacements and my left ankle was pinned and plated after a fracture/dislocation. I also have gross lymphoedema on both legs so I am sure you all can understand why I do not want any more surgery. I may make it, I receive an extra 25p a week added to my state pension in September.

Good point re the swelling Charleygirl. That'll certainly lead to stiffness. Ice, elevate and just walk about. Don't do any forcing exercises. Pile pillows into a gradual slope to raise the affected leg. ie not just straight up. The slope supports your knee yet gets your foot up high enough to increase draining of retained fluid. Ice ice baby! (As the youngsters say!)

Have had a physio appointment today. Really helpful. I told her about the stiffness etc. She checked my hip and said no real movement there, could be causing the stiffness. I asked if it was OK to have the hip op not that long after the knee. She said knee fine, healing well and 90°+ bend.
I have been referred in the meantime to a private hospital on the NHS but about an hour away.

That’s good news Susytish. Had a word with a friend who has had 3 knee ops done ( don’t ask) and 90 degrees is very satisfactory.

Hip replacement will be a breeze compared to knee replacement. Snap up the chance!

Has anyone travelled to the US after knee replacement surgery? How did you cope with the journey? I know you can ask for help at the airports. I did a while ago before the knee got very bad. I am just bothered about long flight. Fortunately East Coast!

susytish if it were me I would organise with the airport to be taken in a wheelchair to and from the airport in both countries.

Regarding the flight, would it be possible to book an aisle seat so that occasionally you could get some respite by being able to pop your operated leg out straight.

At least if your seat is on the "wrong" side of the aisle to your operated side you will be able to stand occasionally without upsetting others

As I said in my response to the specific thread on this it's possible to book extra legroom seats. Costs more but worth it. Sticking an operated leg out into the aisle is asking for trouble. The stewards trolleys bash along there - ooyah!
Airport assistance is brilliant.

Aveline I agree but this would be better than a window or middle seat and susytish would have to choose her moments carefully and only do it if desperate.

After I sent my last offering it immediately returned to Last Day-is that not a first? I could not believe it.

Aveline like you I found myself immediately being the very last on trending. This is now getting ridiculous.

This has been happening from
the very first thread but had got worse with second and third iterations, I try not to take it personally but why is the question.... and post!

Nope we don’t appear on Active At All, not even at the very end.
I am forever grateful that we just need to look for the dancers to see if we have got onto Active.
Last try, for now anyway.
