Hello 👋

Here is the new thread!
Thank you to regular and irregular posters all.

Especially those such as Silverling and Charleygirl who have provided so much advise and support. (There are lots of other lovely posters, but too many to list).

As well as advice, there is also much wisdom and kindness.

I will link to the first and second threads below.

Wherever you are on your replacement journey, you are most welcome to join us here smile

I now have managed to get Hip replacement appointment with Consultant who did my TKR. I am delighted! I got a referral from my GP but the hospital was miles away. I thought there is no harm asking if I can go to the one which did my TKR. Just shows, anything is worth a try!
I am still recovering from knee, but hip has now kicked in and mobility is not good. Doing exercises on Versus Arthritis, they help.

Hello Susy Glad you have an appointment with someone you are happy with. Oh yes it’s always worth an ask. Keep in touch and good luck.

I am having quite a bit of pain now in hip area. I have Consultant appointment 19 July so hope to get things moving. It is affecting my new TKR and other leg. Knee op was February this year.
Would really like to hear from anyone who had knee before hip done, and how they managed.

This month, my hip is 18 years old. When it had its tenth anniversary, I asked my GP if it could be wearing out, so he sent me for an X-ray to put my mind at rest, which it did. How are other veterans of hip surgery getting on with theirs?

Not a hip.

However, my knee is over 5 years old, doing quite well.

I still do all my physio, I think that helps.

My right knee was replaced in 2012 but I definitely need a revision sooner rather than later. I also need a hip on that side but that will have to wait. Time is rather against me.

A friend who lives in Northamptonshire was told by a physio last week she was too old at 80 to have a knee replacement. This is just a money-saving exercise as it is the physios rather than GPs there who make the consultant referral. I hope it has not reached London yet.

downtoearth no way have we hit no.1 we were halfway down the list the minute I posted. It is beyond my pea brain.

Morning all. Its 15 months since my new hip hop and all seems well though sometimes when I sit down, on a hard surface, it feels like I am sitting on a stone.
Does anyone have the same?

silverlining48 Thu 13-Jul-23 07:54:39

As usual we aren’t on active ( not even at the end)! ‘Twas ever thus

silverlining48 Thu 13-Jul-23 07:55:36

oh yes we are , if only for. Moment!

Charleygirl5 Thu 13-Jul-23 08:38:07

silverlining time flies. As long as you do not have pain I would not worry about it.

I know my place in life, near the bottom of the pile. Sorry to drag everybody down with me!!!

* SL* my bum gives me the most problems,my scar is from mid thigh round on to bum cheek, think surgeon forgot to stop cutting,if I sit awkwardly,it feels like I still have the clips in and I am sitting on them.

downtoearth Thu 13-Jul-23 09:00:20

downtoearth Thu 13-Jul-23 09:01:40

susytish I don't know if this will help at all because it isn't quite an answer to your question, but I had my first TKR seven years ago, it went brilliantly but soon after I had pain in both my hips and although my right knee needed replacing my surgeon said he had to do my hips first. Fast forward to 2021 when I had my first THR in February and then second in June. I finally have a date in December for my second TKR. Anyway, where I'm going with this is that without doubt my first TKR, although very successful, definitely affected my hips and my right THR although successful has definitely been affected by my knee that needs replacing. At first I thought that something was wrong with my new hips but I had reassurance xrays and now realise that what I'm suffering is only muscular. I've been on crutches for two years. My poor body, how it's had to keep adjusting to the operations and recovery! But I'm sure that once my final (fourth) major joint is replaced in December I'll be able to start walking properly and my muscles and tendons will adjust to whatever is normal for an active 70 year old.

Has anyone here had hip revision surgery?

silverlining48 Thu 13-Jul-23 11:17:26

Not sure if this helps but a friend had a successful knee revision. The original surgeon was struck off!
