Out of no-where, hit me like a hurricane on Boxing Day.

Any other sufferer out there?

OnwardandUpward Thu 29-Dec-22 17:25:19

I've had all my covid jabs and the flu jab too! But what I've got/have had is like covid and flu combined! Something is wrong somewhere!

discoqueen Thu 29-Dec-22 18:16:57

Also unwell atm. Not Covid.
Extremely, unusually tired before Christmas. On/off sore throat. Ear ache. Psoriasis flare. OKish on Christmas eve and fine on Christmas day.
Quite suddenly felt far more ill on Boxing day.
Felt generally a bit out of it on drive home. Spent Christmas with friends.
Sore throat back with a vengeance, extremely tired. Coughing, choking on whatever is in my throat when laying down, and sneezing, achy. No runny nose.
Phases and waves of feeling very hot. Turned heating off last night and just lay on top of duvet.
Seem to feel OKish for a few hours, especially after paracetamol. But moment I try to actually move around or do anything hot flushes start again.
Very frustrating.
Thinking immunity was low and then had contact with at least 2 unwell people, one a toddler, over the weekend.
Switched supermarkets to get an online order of easy food tomorrow plus ordered some more lateral flow tests.
Vaguely nauseous and haven't felt like eating but staying hydrated. I live alone and preparing for worse case scenario.
Slightly terse message from friend when I cancelled on quiz tonight. Think she's more upset about the lift tbh. I usually drive, although she is able to, when she wants a drink. She is very generous and helpful in other ways.
It would have meant a long drive, with possible pick ups. I don't have the energy for a shower, and felt pretty unsafe on Boxing day. She is also unwell but described it as the sniffles. Plus doesn't feel great today but has made commitment 😕 Only heard this was a solid arrangement yesterday which is when I said I was ill.
They enough people for their quiz team so apart from not driving, can't see that I've wrecked the evening. Ill adult over weekend was described as full of cold.
Suppose the bottom line is that this competitive soldiering on annoys me! It seems very likely that different people in this friendship group have different ailments: colds, throat infection, flu, Covid. (No longer the holy grail of sympathy imo)
And the same hierarchy re health conditions is starting to appear in a different friendship group. For completely unrelated things. So there has to be a Queen Bee, whose health problems surpass Al others.
Drives me crazy!

Apologies for typos

It's beginning to feel like top trumps.

discoqueen Thu 29-Dec-22 19:31:11

Is fk off I'm ill appropriate for Gransnet.
Because it's how I feel.

OnwardandUpward Thu 29-Dec-22 19:51:22

You have my sympathy discoqueen . It's definitely worse than covid and the flu together and so unfair seeing as I'm fully vaccinated against both.

All I wanted to do is complain, but I lost my voice! So I can only complain by typing, which is tiring!! Grr.

"Full of cold" and "the Sniffles" are trifling compared to this.

It seems like bad colds and coughs are doing the rounds.
I was abroad for Christmas and a loy of people had a cough, me too although I didn’t feel unwell!
Hope everyone gets better soon, happy New Year🎄

Started feeling ill on 22nd Dec, vomiting and diarrhoea. Expected it to last 24 hours but couldn’t eat for days and felt so weak all I could do was lie on the sofa. Then my son got it on Christmas Eve so Christmas was cancelled. I am only just getting my appetite back and he is the same. I ended up with a cough from the sore throat caused by the vomiting and sore ribs. My son was lucky and didn’t. We’re having Christmas Day on Sunday.

wow! I feel so much better, in two ways, physically, it started withme 4 weeks this coming Sunday, all ready early church, coughing, throwing up, couldn`t even keep water down for 4 days. dil rang 111, I am elderly! ambulance came, they did not seem amused, tested for heart . ok. get on with it...

after 4 days, sickness stopped and thereafter, well I hardly remember,, just this last week, starting to feel like me, like a human being...
had a covid test, negative, wonder why we still do them, the Government is no longer reporting!

so, mentally , feel better, well some of that "fog" disappearing, but also, as I live alone, it so helps to know that I am not alone with this... praying everyone gets well soon, well Christmas 2022? where has it gone, gone thank goodness, lets hope 2023 improves for all of us

CountryMouse22 Fri 30-Dec-22 11:14:27

I started a cold just before Xmas and it's nearly gone, then DH has developed it yesterday. We both tested negative for Covid, thank heavens. Yesetrday at the shops we noticed the shelves are virtually cleared of Lemsip and similar remedies!

polnan Fri 30-Dec-22 11:14:36

o..k I am in South West England,,Swindon to be exact

5553n Fri 30-Dec-22 11:22:24

I'm glad I'm not alone! It started with a tickly cough 14th Dec and has got progressively worse since then. Persistent cough, no appetite, lethargy and chills. To add to that I 'pinged' my back ( ex nurse weak back) carrying my little granddaughter who is a foody!! Can you imagine coughing or getting comfortable with acute lower back pain...Mum aged 98 has had it too. Looking forward to better days in 2023.

I felt it coming on two days ago …this morning g had to cancel 8.39 swim ( luckily hadn’t booked) a meet up with one friend for coffee, after swim …a visit to husband in his care home…. AND a lunch date with my best friend ! Hoping it’s not the dreaded C word again …had it twice already!

Saggi Fri 30-Dec-22 11:25:42

I’m with you disco queen …all this soldiering on spreads these things around !

Magsymoo Fri 30-Dec-22 11:25:45

Had a terrible night. Raging temperature, shaking shivers, hacking cough, no sleep. Just when I thought I had turned a corner and was on the mend. So to the GP this morning who was very kind and sympathetic to my ruined Xmas and now cancelled NY. I’ve now got a chest infection and heavy duty antibiotics so hopefully will be on the mend soon rather than joining the queues in A&E as I feared in the middle of a long and scary night last night.

Saggi Fri 30-Dec-22 11:27:29

Midlands. England where I am!

Jac53 Fri 30-Dec-22 11:29:40

I had a sore throat for 3 weeks before I went away for 2 nights on 12th December. When I came back it developed into a chest infection needing antibiotics. Not Covid but sense of taste went. So tired no appetite and feeling dizzy. Still not entirely gone, 30th December. Most friends have it or Covid.

OnwardandUpward Fri 30-Dec-22 11:31:24

Day 7 of the lurgy, here in UK. Still having a productive cough and feel rubbish.

Sending flowers and virtual lemon and honey drinks.

It’s the Jab, weakened people’s immune systems so they catch everything going.

Strange how it’s the vaccinated getting Covid whilst the unjabbed are just fine.

Yes, I know most of you disagree but do some research. Check the yellow card which shows how many deaths and illnesses have been caused by the Vaccine._

Rosina Fri 30-Dec-22 11:35:25

Our Christmas was severely compromised - we had Christmas day together, but DS was unwell by the evening and has been in bed since - unheard of. He said it is like having flu. Luckily the rest of the family escaped - or have so far.

nanna8 Fri 30-Dec-22 11:37:50

Maybe it’s another Covid strain that doesn’t show up in the tests ? Hope not but I wouldn’t be totally surprised. The RAT tests certainly aren’t that reliable because many who have symptoms and test negative give a positive result when they get a PCR test.

But are they? I don't know anyone who's unvaccinated.

I knew someone would come out with this sooner or later. Also, if we already had it theres not much we can do.

NemosMum Fri 30-Dec-22 11:43:04

Yes, my 'cold' starting 12th Dec turned to pneumonia by 19th. Haven't felt so ill since chemo 5 years ago! Finally gave in and saw the GP who ticked me off for not seeking help earlier. It seems a viral infection opened the door to a secondary bacterial infection. Strong antibiotics knocked that off, but I still have a phlegmy cough and wheeziness (doc prescribed inhaler). I think it will take a while to get sorted. Respiratory infections are going crazy - this is because we locked down for Covid. The immune system is like an orchestra - it needs to practise every day.

pen50 Fri 30-Dec-22 11:44:35

I've got it, DH so far okay. Started Christmas Day, made it through to the evening and then haven't been up until today. Ugh.
