Have a skin problem and wonder if anyone else has had it.

It’s just in front of my ear. For a long time now it dispels bits of skin and I am forever pulling bits off. I thought fucibet might help but the surgery pharmacist asked if I had ever seen a dermatologist. I hadn’t so she suggested making an appointment in case it was a type of cancer. She made the appointment and I got an appointment for September. Now this is away off and not sure what to do. My brother tells me on the phone that he has something like this and it is a type of cancer and he has a cream to put on it as it is sun damage. It is odd as my hair has covered the front of my ear for years. It is difficult for me to see without a mirror. Now I am concerned about the long wait. We have Benenden membership but have just given up our car and the journey is difficult. My dd will take us I am sure but she can’t drive for awhile as she has just had a hip replacement. I don’t want to cause unnecessary bother so wondering if others have a view on this condition and the wait to September.

You should have been given an urgent appointment with your GP. The GP could take a close up photo of it and send it to a Consultant Dermatologist who would then decide if you need to be seen by them urgently.

But thank goodness for Benenden!

Thatt sounds like a good idea, but yes, thank goodness for Benenden. I wouldn't hang around. No point in worrying.

I must say I was 10 days from referral by GP to a dermatologist.

However, DD was seen by a GP who was unsure, so I rang Benenden and she was seen the next day.

Callistemon Benenden is great, but 10 days was good for NHS appointment.
A friend recently took her baby son to the GP with very severe skin rash probably eczema. GP referred him to a dermatologist, but said the waiting time was a year.

The GP though it was a cancerous lump, it wasn't thankfully, but it turned out to be something else which was urgent.
That was about 4 years ago, before Covid and the present problems.

I hope the baby gets a more urgent appointment, he must be feeling thoroughly miserable.

Oh that was much more urgent Callistemon. Glad you were OK.
Baby's parents were able to pay privately.

Oh good. But if they hadn't, he'd be suffering.
