I am 70, and in the last few months I have had aching joints and pins and needles, especially when I lay down also a lot of the time my feet feel like they are burning. My doctor thinks it might be long Covid, but I think it’s all too easy to blame things on Covid so I have had some blood tests and scans, but everything apparently is normal 🤷‍♀️

My symptoms are the same as yours Shinamae! I'm 67 and have had blood tests which show nothing. I have been wondering if it's long covid or old age!

My DH also has these symptoms plus dizzy spells. He was listening to something on the radio the other day discussing this very thing and suggesting it could be long Covid

It seems that these symptoms are quite common at the moment.

Also, after years of having bad hay fever, he hasn't had any symptoms this year.

I refused to accept that bad joints could be down to normal ageing around 40 yrs old. It took a long time, but finally I pinned it on cow's milk. Went from literally crawling into the bathroom each morning to getting out of bed normally in about a week.
A food sensitivity can arise at any moment. Most people are sensitive to something or other, but many of us avoid what disagrees with us without even being aware of it.

I have taken an Omega 3 oil capsule daily for the past number of years. No joint pains so far.

Have a checkup with your GP. Glucosamine and cod liver oil recommended by my OH though not everyone thinks they work.

I took turmeric but unfortunately it gave me awful stomach cramps and very urgent bowel movements so had to stop! I too get the burning feet and have had multiple tests including for myeloma but all negative - GP gave me Amitriptyline which helps a little.

Turmeric has worked for me. Also CBD oil. Good luck.

If you’re concerned, see your doctor.

Ah, those were the days, Gsm !

Just to say I have taken glucosamine and cod liver oil since my mid forties and I’m 73 now. Have also taken marine collagen. All seem to keep aches and pains away. Like you I noticed a difference when I stopped taking them for a while. Collagen has improved my hair/skin/nails too.

What will help depends on why things ache. I'd have a look at Patrick Holden books list and borrow/buy those that suggest themselves to you. If you can figure out where things are going wrong - you are at the beginning of fixing. Can be as simple as chronic dehydration... Meanwhile keep moving gently and have a varied diet.

Do you take statins? My blood test were normal but I changed to another brand and the aches went away. ( Apart from age related over doing things ones!) Of course you need to see a health professional for this (it doesn't need to be your Dr, nurse practitioner can prescribe)

Had exactly that conversation this morning on a telephone consultation with the cardiology department☹️

Do you take statins Nanjust60? They can cause awful joint/muscle pain.

Shhhh🤫 Primrose53 you mustn't say that about statins because any suggestion that they have any affect on the body other than reducing cholesterol will result in widespread disapproval…. *you know I’m only joking*

Face? Bovvered? Am I bovvered? 🤣🤣🤣

It is a very well known side effect of statins in a lot of people.
Some people are fine, others are in a lot of pain. Sometimes it takes several types of statin before they find one that suits you. Sometimes no statin suits you so you have to weigh up whether you would rather feel well with so called “high” cholesterol and no statins or feel ill on statins which seriously restrict your lifestyle.

I don’t have arthritis or anything like that but my legs do ache a but after a long walk. For several years I have taken Glucosamine with MSM and Chondroitin and I swear they do a great job for me because if I ever run out I notice the difference. Lots of places just sell Glucosamine on its own but you really need the other two “ingredients”. I buy mine in Savers shop in a green/red bottle and they only cost about £3.50.

I have just been and bought the glucosamine you recommended and it was £3 for 30 tablets(in Savers) so will definitely give it a go thank you.. not in a green and red bottle though..

Great! Worth a try. My bottle is green and white with a red flash across the top saying BIG VALUE BIG VALUE. It has 90 tablets and was about £3.50-£3.95.

I just take one a day but you can take 1-3 per day. Let us know how you get on.

Does anyone on here have any thoughts on why, I can easily fall asleep and stay asleep on a fairly firm but old leather sofa, and wake up feeling good to go….
Yet wake up feeling crippled, crumpled and generally knackered from a bed, and not just my own either.🤔

I am exactly the same. I feel myself nodding off on the sofa and my eyes are starting to close, so I think time for bed, turn off TV, into bed, can I sleep? can I heck 😩 (usually a very restless night up two or three times to do the necessary, but I do have sleeping tablets and I will about once a fortnight. Take two of them to get a really good night sleep, will be frowned upon by some I know, but it works for me..)

I find Turmeric very helpful. Its quite a strong one called Circumin.
Shinamae and Claretjan, have you had a blood test for vitamin B12 levels? A deficiency can sometimes cause pins n needles.

Yes I have had a lot of tests and he says all my levels are fine/ normal..🤷‍♀️

Shinamae: do consider having acupuncture. It really helps. I had acupuncture 5 years ago, I have always been frightened of needles but it didn't hurt and I felt much better afterwards.

I do take a low-dose statin, but stopped for five weeks and it made no difference so I’m on it again..🤷‍♀️

Nanjust60 Wed 17-May-23 09:48:09

No I don’t take statins I am going to go and see my doctor and see what he says thank you for all your comments
