I don’t have arthritis or anything like that but my legs do ache a but after a long walk. For several years I have taken Glucosamine with MSM and Chondroitin and I swear they do a great job for me because if I ever run out I notice the difference. Lots of places just sell Glucosamine on its own but you really need the other two “ingredients”. I buy mine in Savers shop in a green/red bottle and they only cost about £3.50.

Do you take statins Nanjust60? They can cause awful joint/muscle pain.

Are you able to have your gait checked out by a podiatrist ? If you have flat feet etc, it helps to have orthotics fitted which aligns the feet, improves posture and helps with aches in the joints generally.

I suffer from aches in the pelvic area and I’ve found the following alleviates the problem.
1. Five minutes of daily exercises prescribed by GP practice physiotherapist. They’ve really strengthened the area.
2. Keep affected area warm, either by an extra layer or heating pad. The latter is very soothing.
3. Wear supportive footwear, including slippers.

Did some really heavy digging yesterday. This was done in sort of twenty minute spurts as opposed to the days when I'd have completed the job in a oner. Think it's called adapt and survive!

Warning do not take turmeric if you are diabetic .

I have been wondering about the burning feet too, Shinamae. It occurs even when the weather is not particularly warm!

78 years young and do get very achy legs (not joints) and a lot of cramps I take magnesium for the cramp and they are definitely worse when I don’t take them. The cramp is nearly
always down the out sides of my lower legs lately
But the aches no idea just presumed it’s part of the aging stuff

Shinamae

I am 70, and in the last few months I have had aching joints and pins and needles, especially when I lay down also a lot of the time my feet feel like they are burning. My doctor thinks it might be long Covid, but I think it’s all too easy to blame things on Covid so I have had some blood tests and scans, but everything apparently is normal 🤷‍♀️

My symptoms are the same as yours Shinamae! I'm 67 and have had blood tests which show nothing. I have been wondering if it's long covid or old age!

The joint pain I would put down to old age, but not the pins and needles and burning feet…
I am seeing my Doctor again in a couple of weeks to see if there is any further investigation can be done..🤷‍♀️

foxygloves I like your answer and it is true better than the alternative.
I am 64 RA for 25yrs so I'm use to painful joints but I always remind myself its better than other conditions.

I have to disagree there. I have had RA for nearly forty years. It is a systemic condition, which attacks the organs in the body, as well as joints.
I have been through every RA medication, including biologics. The pain at times is excrutiating.

I now have heart failure, caused by RA.

I have osteoarthritis, mainly in my spine, at 73, confirmed by MRI scan. The discomfort is not usually great and the occasional paracetamol works wonders. Walking DS's dog twice a day- 3 if she is staying over - has unstiffened my hips and 4 trips to an osteopath have stablised the wonky one but is writing to GP about assessment for surgery on it.... DS has recommended Turmeric so will try if after reading this thread. I usually take it for the occasional UTI and it is effective for that. Perhaps we could compare notes....?....

Taking turmeric tablets certainly seems to have reduced my aches and pains.

SueDonim Tue 16-May-23 19:07:30

I have osteoarthritis which comes and goes. I’ve found that long-acting ibuprofen is excellent. It works within 20-30mins and keeps you comfortable for much of the day.

I don’t take it for more than one or two days at a time and of course some people can’t take it all, but it works for me.

Elless Tue 16-May-23 19:04:40

I started to take Turmeric and Glucosamine a couple of months ago, I really didn't notice any improvement - until I stopped taking it! I couldn't believe how bad I became, I tried a cheaper brand which helped slightly but have now gone back to my original one from Healthspan.

I have some arthritis and still in my 50’s. I take a quick morning and evening hot shower which helps and a couple of paracetamol after breakfast if a bad day.Exercise does help, I have to go to work and am on my feet a lot and this is actually a good thing.

I eat oily fish regularly. As does DH. Helped his arthritis more than prescribed pills. He doesnt take the pills now.
Not sure it helps everyone.

Theexwife Tue 16-May-23 15:53:14

I have arthritis and have been taking Turmeric capsules, it has to be a decent strength a sprinkle on food will not do anything. After taking it for about a month I find that I use a lot fewer pain killers.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 16-May-23 15:42:06

If you’re concerned, see your doctor.

midgey Tue 16-May-23 15:39:14

Sometimes it’s the additives in food that give aches and pains to some people. So many foods now have sweeteners in to avoid the sugar tax and they had an affect on my DH’s joints. Could that be a cause?

Just turned 76, and I'm afraid the aches and pains go with the territory. No chronic pain yet, though, as some of my friends suffer from, so I'm not complaining. Occasionally take a couple of paracetamol with my breakfast cuppa, just to take the edge off. I also take multi-vitamins, cod liver oil capsules and one a day garlic tabs, but don't honestly know if they help, as they've just become a habit. Been warned off ibuprofen. I find that gentle exercise does help somewhat.. mainly a long walk with the pooches. A good mattress is also important, as I found recently after a week in a rental cottage on a poor one left me crippled after a couple of nights. Ah, the joys of ageing.. but as someone has already said, it's better than the alternative.

Nanjust60 Tue 16-May-23 15:07:35

Yes but this is has come on recently and I work full time and don’t usually get the aches are like you have caught a chill

It's called getting old.
Better than the alternative though
