sadly on the rise. As predicted, as there are currently still NO checks whatsoever on meat and other produce coming from overseas.

Dark-colored pee (urine) or less pee than usual.

In case anybody does not know what pee is.

What a bizarre (but sort of serious thread).
Oh yes, foods to steer clear of abroad. (!!) Memories ...

I took teenage DS1 to Bremen to pick up my new car. We had Frühstück in our hotel, did the factory tour, then set off on the Autobahn home. Hardly reached Osnabrück when he was throwing up big time all over the interior of my new car! I traced it back to the fried bread he had eaten, which wasn't fried toast at all but bread used to soak up the fat dripping from the bacon. 🤢 🤮 His stomach was dodgy for a few days.
Beware.

No words needed.

Trust you to take the p...ee instead of discussing the issues. And attack silly points of grammar- personal 'attacks' à la Maw, as per usual. Again, and again, with your little clique of clappers.
How silly, low and plain daft, but be my guest. Water - duck -back.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 14-Dec-23 15:39:14

It’s not a point of grammar.

Farmor15 Thu 14-Dec-23 16:09:41

To get back to the point made in the OP about Salmonella, antibiotic resistance etc, this is not new! 50 years ago, when I was studying microbiology in university, research had come out about this topic. At that time, antibiotic resistant Salmonella had been isolated from children who had never been treated with antibiotics but who lived on farms. The theory was that the children had picked up the bugs from contact with animals. The concern then (and now) was that the resistance could be passed on to other species of bacteria - they can exchange genes with each other.

Since then, the use of antibiotics in animals has been significantly reduced but antibiotic resistant bacteria have been increasing due to over use in humans.

I think it's unlikely most cases of illness caused by Salmonella are from imported produce - Salmonella is very prevalent in native animals and birds and doesn't need to be imported!

As usual, Amazon has the answer to cleaning vegetables!

Fruit and Vegetable Washing Machine

It seems you just put it in the water with the veg and within 10 mins your veg are clean.

FEWER!

Are you sure?

Fleurpepper Thu 14-Dec-23 16:43:11

It’s not a point of grammar.

That was to GSM.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 14-Dec-23 16:57:10

‘Fewer’ is definitely correct, not ‘less’.

MerylStreep Thu 14-Dec-23 17:02:39

Oooh, I’ve never been in a clique, and now I’m in a clique of clappers. But, I’m the only clapper 🤷‍♀️
Very good alliteration.

‘Fewer’ is definitely correct, not ‘less’.

Agreed, but totally irrelevant to the thread. So just silly, and rude.

Aveline Thu 14-Dec-23 17:16:45

But isn't a clapping clique a claque?

MerylStreep Thu 14-Dec-23 17:26:56

😂 brilliant. Thanks for the laugh.

Why do people try to correct your grammar in an argument online?

The folks who correct your grammar (or spelling) when arguing with you on a subject unrelated to your grammar or spelling have one or a combination of three motives I can think of:

They know of no way of refuting the argument you are making, and wish to derail you by tripping you up on a minor technical error;

They know of no way of refuting the argument you are making, and wish to discredit you by casting doubt in others’ minds as to whether you know anything, because you made a mistake in spelling or grammar;

They are habitually insufferable pedants, who make a show of knowledge without bothering to try to make it relevant to the topic at hand.

If the response to an argument you’ve just outlined is a smug “you’re” because you typed “your,” you can bet the person trying to counter your argument has little in the way of real ammunition.

In other words, it is just plain RUDE.

Does this answer the question?

Some of you might enjoy these mugs. I bought a set a few years ago for a pedant in our family. We have a a few pedants including my OH. He's always correcting anyone who uses "floor " instead of "ground".

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 14-Dec-23 19:14:42

Ahh, another clapper. Welcome to my clique.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 14-Dec-23 19:42:19

👏👏👏. (I hope this doesn’t mean we have the clap?😱)

As you become older your immune system becomes weaker and more vulnerable to bacteria, hopefully you will be more experienced and know the risks.
I travel widely and am very careful about food but I did get caught once eating undercooked eggs, in Swaziland!, I was ill for a day and now avoid eggs on holiday.

I avoided a fresh fruit salad in Madeira just in case, ate a mousse instead and ended up vomiting all night!

The worst experience I dodged was in the Caribbean it was a week at a cheapie all inclusive, the resort itself was actually nice but had the chef from hell.
The first night was a BBQ which was a whole leg of a cow being cooked kebab style and was half raw, everything else looked awful, unsurprisingly the queue for the doctor was a mile long next morning.
We spent the whole week in an alcoholic haze because the only food that was safe was bread, bananas and rum, we didn’t even bother to complain, just thankful to survive.

Fleurpepper Fri 15-Dec-23 15:19:55

Clapped out, more like.

Aveline Fri 15-Dec-23 15:26:30

Well you know what that feels like!
