For the support, understanding and sharing of mental health issues.
All are welcome. We treat each other with kindness.

nadateturbe Sun 25-Feb-24 22:34:11

Good luck with appointments tomorrow Doodle and Sweetpeasue. Will be thinking about you.
Another one who found M&S disappointing All I bought there was black knee highs. I like their pjs, good value.
HVDY you certainly sound more energetic than you are, and definitely more than me! But I know what you mean. It's hard getting adjusted to not being as able..
Hoping everyone on BD has a peaceful night and sleeps well. xx

Wyllow3 Mon 26-Feb-24 00:28:37

Night night, dear BD's xx

Sweetpeasue Mon 26-Feb-24 16:26:59

Well, they obviously weren't expecting me- even though Senior House Officer took my call yesterday and booked me. Receptionist really awkward. When a Dr came to ask her who I was she was funny with Dr. Didn't get all the conversation but Dr said I'll write it down then! Gave her the note, receptionist ignored her, so Dr threw it at her and walked off. Dr was trying to get my notes. Nurse finally came to waiting room and said they'd been calling me at surgical waiting room but receptionist hadn't told me to go down. Must admit I was getting a bit upset by then. Anyway saw the nice Dr who did it and yes, he was nice, but I felt as if made out to be the nervous one. He said my tongue was OK though nothing about why stitches had fallen out 3hrs after placing them . It still looks very strange but I'm not about to force anything. I'd rather stay on their good side - hopefully won't need anything further but if I do....... throat feels sore and thick.

How is everyone? Hope things have been OK for you. Doodle and appt went as expected. Thinking of you. X

HowVeryDareYou2 Mon 26-Feb-24 17:51:45

SweetpeaSue The lack of communication between receptionists/doctors/other departments is shocking, isn't it. I'm glad you were seen and that the doctor thinks your tongue looks alright. Your throat might be the start of a virus - I started with a sore throat the other week. Fingers crossed you'll be ok.

Doodle Hope things went ok today.

Back later, Son2 just nipped round for a cuppa, on his way home x

nadateturbe Mon 26-Feb-24 18:05:19

The receptionist sounds very unpleasant Sweetpeasue. I'm sure she was the same with others. She shouldn't be allowed to behave like that. Your tongue must be acceptable even if its not a good as it could be, so that's reassuring. Maybe ask at your review how it will progress. Could you maybe gargle with salt water, or try some lozenges for your throat.
Oh you lucky thing ,HVDY having a son who can drop in for a coffee.

Sweetpeasue Mon 26-Feb-24 18:37:14

HVDY Must be lovely to see your son like that. Lack of communication is unfortunately common now isn't it? I couldn't understand why my throat and neck were so bad with awful ear-ache about an hr after biopsy. Thought it must be a virus. Next day it had vanished. Googled it and its because nerves in tongue go are attached to those places.
Have a nice chat with son

Nadateturbe Yes I think you must be right in that tongue is acceptable though not, I feel. as good as it might have been if stitches hadn't come out. I am using salt water washes for mouth as on aftercare leaflet. The biopsy should take 2 weeks and my appt for results is 8th March. I dare not even think about a bad result tbh.
Hope you're OK today and feeling stronger.

Sweetpeasue Mon 26-Feb-24 18:39:39

To be clear HVDY I meant communication between medical staff and not families.Sorry for way it sounded.

Ellie Anne Mon 26-Feb-24 18:42:43

Glad you got seen sweet pea sue.
Some people are in the wrong jobs aren’t they?
Managed a walk in the woods today. The snowdrops are nearly gone -remembering Annie- and the daffodils are coming out. Saw a squirrel and lots of birds.
Not going to group tonight. I’ve read the bible passage and it is too hard. Also we have a new couple coming and it’s changed the dynamics in the group. The wife is quite opinionated.
Anyway I m out a lot this week so a night in might be sensible.
And though this may sound stupid it might somehow easier to stay in than to go out and come back in.
Hope everyone is as good as possible.

Doodle Mon 26-Feb-24 20:17:05

What a day. It’s exhausting trying to find a wheelchair at the hospital and they only had the big ones. Then I had to push DH up two steep slopes to get into the hospital. Long walks along the corridor. My shoulders hurt tonight with the effort.
DH got on ok but they are concerned his legs are swollen so it’s back to the diuretic lounge again. Hopefully it will help.
Sweetpeasue I’m going to say my usual try not to worry. Impossible isn’t it. I was very concerned yesterday that DHs foot was oozing through the bandage, I was sure that wasn’t right but nurse today said all was fine. Hopefully you will get the same response tomorrow.
HVdY I can hear myself walking round the house scuffing my feet in the floor and know I used to stride about and clean the whole flat in one day. Now I can manage about 1 chore a day. I feel very old and decrepit these days,
Oh I’m envious. Haven’t had a Sunday roast for ages. Too lazy to cook myself and not going out anywhere.

Doodle Mon 26-Feb-24 20:29:49

nadateturbe I was trying to buy PJs for DH but they weee all brushed cotton which is too warm or pure cotton which is too stiff. They had one poly cotton mix but in the wrong size so I’ve orders some for collecting during the week.
Sweetpeasue every time I look at DHs foot I think OMG that looks awful and I get scared then we see a nurse or podiatrist and they say no it’s fine. I guess you and I aren’t used to these things so we don’t know what it’s supposed to be like. Hope it feels easier for you now. DH has just accidentally knocked his foot pore mans in agony.
HVDY how lovely to live so near your son can pop in. It’s nice isn’t it,
Ellie Anne I always think of Annie when I see snowdrops too. I know she’s posting on other threads so hope she’s ok and well.
We have some of those tiny daffs growing on our lawn. Perfect daffs but in miniature.
Sorry your group has been spoilt a bit by the new arrivals. Hope it settles down. Sounds like you’ve got a busy week planned.
Scaredycat Wyllow hope you’re both ok x

Doodle Mon 26-Feb-24 20:30:29

Sorry first post was in reply to yesterdays posts not todays.

nadateturbe Mon 26-Feb-24 21:18:07

Doodle Oh dear, that was too much for you. And having to go home and make dinner afterwards. Is there no way to request assistance when you go for an appointment?
You're probably extremely tired at the minute, which is why you're shuffling. But I agree, it's very difficult to adjust to not being as fit as you once were. And having to lower standards a bit. And reminding yourself of how fortunate you are to reach this age, doesn't always help........!
I hope you're having a good rest now.

nadateturbe Mon 26-Feb-24 21:31:34

Oh, poor Mr D, that sounds painful, knocking his foot. Maybe something cold on it.
My OH wears M&S polycotton pj's. They're comfy and easy to iron, and often OK without ironing I agree brushed cotton is too warm.

Scaredycat Mon 26-Feb-24 21:35:48

Hello dear friends. So sorry not been in for a few days. This weekend was DH Birthday so have had some really nice family times. We are lucky to have 2 of our children and some of their families close by. I,m very tired but so grateful DH could have a good Birthday.
SweetPeaSue- I,m glad your procedure is over but it must have been very distressing when the stitches came out so quickly. Glad the nice Dr said it all seemed OK but it must have been so stressful for you. You have dealt with it very bravely I think.
Nadateturbe- good to hear you have had 2 good days - must have been lovely to get out and have some retail therapy. I love random chats with strangers - it’s one of the things I missed the most during Covid. Hope you are still feeling ok.
Doodle- you must feel worn out after DH Hospital appointment- what a lot of physical effort it must have taken. Hope DH leg swelling goes down soon. Poor man knocking his foot like that - it must hurt so bad. I feel just as you do re the chores etc- it’s so hard not to feel cheesed off by the lack of energy isn’t it. I love those little daffs too- they don’t get damaged by the weather like the tall ones do either. They must look very pretty on your lawn. Yes snowdrops always make me think of Annie too. Hope you sleep well tonight.
EllieAnne-That sounds like a lovely walk in the woods - you can watch the countryside coming to life again at this time of year- a time of hope. You have a busy time ahead- hope there are some enjoyable times in there.
HVDY- glad you had a nice Sunday roast with the family- we had a pub Roast too with Giant YPs . You and I are both lucky to have family who can pop in aren’t we.
How is Chubby Chops doing with her teeth - she really sounds a delightful little soul.
Wyllow- wishing you a peaceful night.
Love to all- old,new or just reading.

nadateturbe Mon 26-Feb-24 21:42:19

EllieAnne sounds like a very pleasant walk, I love when Spring flowers appear. We have primroses and snowdrops in the garden.
What passage was it? I hope the group hasn't been spoilt.
Yes, better to pace yourself.

Sweetpeasue Mon 26-Feb-24 22:10:40

Oh Doodle I'm sorry that you are having such a very hard time. I remember pushing g my mum in a wheelchair up a steep bank and it was exyremely hard and I was only in early 40s. Those ones in hospital are so awkward and dont go where you want them to.I hope you haven't pulled muscles that will take some time to heal. You must be so worried about your DH . You must wonder how much more you can do. It's so much for you both to cope with. I do hope tomorrow is a quiet day for you both to recover. Gentle warm hug for you.
EllieAnne Glad you had a nice walk. It's encouraging seeing the spring flowers coming up. I remember how much Annie loved the Snowdrops. They're such a tiny .modest little flower yet so strong to push through hard cold ground. Hope you have a nice evening quiet night.
Scaredycat Glad you've had such a lovely time with your family and your DH has had a good birthday. Thankyou but you're the brave one. Hope you can relax tomorrow.
Wyllow Hoping you have a restful night.

Wishing all a peaceful night.x

Wyllow3 Tue 27-Feb-24 00:09:25

Night night...(I do follow all BD's) xx

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 27-Feb-24 08:05:29

SweetpeaSue I knew what you meant smile. I never even thought about that being to do with the nerves. Google comes up with some great information. Glad your throat is alright now though.

EllieAnne I saw a lot of crocuses in the park the other day, very pretty. It's a sign that spring will soon be here. Hope you had a relaxing evening in. Did you watch anything good on tv? We've just discovered Trail & Retribution on itvX - the 1st series (series 10 is currently on tv). It's very good.

Doodle Pushing a wheelchair up any slope is hard work. I bet your shoulders will ache for a bit. Next time, could you get a porter to help? Glad your husband got on ok and that the diuretics help his legs. I hope his foot is ok this morning. It must have been very painful when he banged it. Like you, I sometimes shuffle. Someone pointed out I've got a limp (good of them), but that's better than not being able to walk at all.

Nadateturbe I'm so sorry, I must have somehow missed that you'd had a biopsy. Was it your tongue, like SPSue, or mouth? Not long to wait for the results, hope everything is ok. Yes, DH and I are very lucky. Son1 is 7 miles away, and Son2 (with baby) is 2 miles from us. They were both late leaving home (25 and 28) and Son1 came back a few times after relationships broke down.

ScaredyCat Glad you enjoyed a nice family time for your husband's birthday. We've got one coming up - Son2 will be 40 on March 6th, so we'll all get together for that. Chubby Chops is doing well, thanks. We'll see her on Friday.

DIL's daughter started her new school (it's a few miles away, and the 2 buses take 90 mins because the times don't correspond, so DIL is taking her. My nephew is back in hospital, with suspected DVT, but he's had some scans which look concerning.

Going to look for something to brighten up the garden today, then do some weeding (so long as it doesn't rain). Hope ALL BDers manage to have a decent day x

nadateturbe Tue 27-Feb-24 10:28:30

HVDY. I haven't had a biopsy recently. Sorry if I said that somewhere. Back later.

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 27-Feb-24 16:39:11

nadateturbe You said - "The biopsy should take 2 weeks and my appt for results is 8th March", so I assumed you'd had a biopsy. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Sweetpeasue Tue 27-Feb-24 16:56:10

HVDY It was myself saying those words to Nadateturbe. Not sure how it's presented on your i-pad or phone. How have you been today?

HowVeryDareYou2 Tue 27-Feb-24 17:09:30

SweetpeaSue I'm losing the plot! Sorry. I use a computer, not my mobile. I've been ok today, thanks. Went to Next, bought Son2 a dressing gown. Then we went to a pub for lunch smile and the new B and M (1/2 a mile, although we've got one 1 mile away. Too cold to buy plants, but bought a few bits and pieces. How have you and your husband been?

Sweetpeasue Tue 27-Feb-24 17:44:43

HVDY I like Next -its one of few clothes shops left on the High St. Hope son likes the dressing gown.We just went for a coffee and a few bits. Don't want to jinx anything but it's strange that my bladder pain has been much better. Have red sore next to white ulcerated bit on tongue which feels quite sore but maybe that's where he took the biopsy. DH seems to have v painful shoulders and neck again since he lowered steroid dose couple of dys ago. Painful for him to move neck and says head doesn't feel right. Wish he would see a GP tomorrow-any- but wants to wait till Friday.
Son 2 due off rig Friday. Just can't get rid of this bad feeling about everything.

nadateturbe Tue 27-Feb-24 20:36:10

Scaredycat you and HVDY are indeed very lucky having family to pop in. My dressmaker just told me she visits her mother in eastern Europe 4 times a year because she won't always be there. I thought that was really nice. Lucky mum!
It seems you had a lovely family weekend. So happy for you. There's nothing that gives one more joy than to be surrounded by family. (in my opinion). I hope you've recovered your energy a bit.
I did enjoy getting out. I'm trying to do it every Friday, pushing myself in the hope my body will get used to it and adjust. And yes, random chats are very pleasant.
It is frustrating not having the same energy, but if you do a routine job less often it still gets done.
HVDY glad we got that sorted. I was very confused. Wondering why I had said it. smile.
Hope your son liked his dressing gown. Very thoughtful of you.
Did you find anything to buy at B&M?.
Sweetpeasue so good that your bladder pain has eased. But I'm very superstitious so we'll not say much about it. I would keep an eye on your tongue just in case the redness gets worse. But hopefully the salt water will help it.
I can't remember what was wrong with your OH, but my neck arthritis affects my head, maybe there's a connection with your husbands pains. It's a pity he won't go to a GP until Fri, but he maybe feels more comfortable with that doctor.
Doodle just read about your OHs foot oozing. I missed that. I hope it heals up. Is it being dressed regularly? I hope you're feeling ok after all the wheelchair pushing yesterday, and haven't strained muscles.
HVDY your GD has a long journey to school. My GS has to leave at 7.30 to get 2 buses. What time would your GD have to leave? It makes it such a long day, and then homework to do. No time for fun on a school day.
Your sons are 2miles and 7miles away. How wonderful. Sometimes I imagine what that would be like. Alas, it will only ever be a dream. I would say, Enjoy and make the most of it, but I know you already do.

Doodle Tue 27-Feb-24 21:35:42

nadateturbe ye DHs foot is being dressed twice a week at the moment. I’m finding my shoulders are a bit sore from helping DH get up and about although he manages most of it himself.
I like your idea of getting out at least once a week. I think we all need a change of scene.
Scaredycat so pleased to hear your DH had a lovely birthday.
Nice to have family round to celebrate with,
I do miss the energy I used to have getting all the housework done in one go and not having to take a rest after every chore. Didn’t realise how lucky I was when I was fitter.
Sweetpeasue nice to go and have a look round the shops, I’ve only been to Next a couple of times. There is a store near us but in the middle of nowhere really so I’m not often passing.
Hope your tongue is feeling better.
Thank you for the hug. Yes those wheelchairs take some pushing. So hard on the shoulders.
HVdY I think the porters only work within the hospital. Not sure they come out to the car park to help. I could ask I suppose.
Sorry to hear the news about your nephew. He’s already been through quite a lot. Hope everything is ok.
Hope your DILs daughter gets on ok in the new school and manages to settle in well.
We’ve got two birthdays in March too. Is your son doing anything nice for his 40th?
We’re off to hospital again in the morning for another battle with the wheelchair. Sleep tight all and your too Wyllow
