I’m 63 and due to taking hrt for over 10 yrs I have developed large fibroids which are causing continuous bleeding. I have been advised by consultant I need to have a hysterectomy especially if I wish to resume hrt. Had anyone had this operation in last year how long was recovery as I still work. Thank you

I agree with everyone here. I had mine due to continuous bleeding. The relief afterwards was enormous. 12weeks planned sick leave. No other problems. Put on oestrogen tablets. I felt normal for the first time in years. Go for it

Vaginal hysterectomy (fibroids) over 20 years ago, 6 weeks recovery which my doctor told me was not up for discussion.

My neighbour had the same 6 months ago, recovery time was the same - 6 weeks.

I had a vaginally hysterectomy a few years ago. I had to inject myself for 6 weeks with anticoagulants. I couldn't walk properly for two days but felt absolutely fine after that. Another ex teacher here! I forget I've had it done if I have to give medical information.

I am less anxious about my hysterectomy after reading all the comments here. I spoke to the consultant ydsy and he hopes he can perform keyhole surgery unless any problems arise and he’ll have to do a full abdominal procedure. I am due for surgery on 3rd feb so when I get home I’ll feedback to let everyone know how it went. Thank you so much for responding and helping me to feel I can cope with surgery and recovery

Hi everyone I wanted to come back and let you know all went well with my hysterectomy. I had keyhole surgery stayed overnight in hospital now recovering at home, but only 10 days. I have some pain in lower tummy but to be expected I’m struggled not to get busy but I know it’s important to heal internally. I’ve been given hrt patches and so far no negative reactions. So wanted to say thank you to everyone for their positive comments and kindness much appreciated xx

I had my operation due to Cancer. This was by keyhole two years ago. As others have said, if you follow their advice, no lifting, you will be fine.

I had a hysterectomy due to fibroid problems at forty two. Wonderful - never looked back. Probably six weeks or so before I felt back to normal, but suspect that was the after effects of a general anaesthetic.
