Lots of celebrities, rugby clubs and of course dairy farmers are extolling the benefits of full fat milk.

My daughter’s friend is to be on GB news this evening talking about this, she and her husband have a large dairy farm.

We eat full fat natural yoghurt, I make my own butter from full fat cream but I just cannot do full fat milk in tea.

Since having to drink milk at school I just cannot drink milk alone or on cereal.

My mother used to buy gold top milk and poured the cream from the top in her coffee every morning🤮

Are you skimmed, semi skimmed or full fat fans?

Would you be willing to change for the health benefits?

I am mildy lactic intolerant. OK with hard cheese, but milk, yogourt, cottage cheese etc, make me feel ill and sick. The smell of milk makes me feel ill

I use UHT skimmed milk, when I need milk because it is flavourless and odourless, and for obvious reasons i would not swap it for full fat or fresh milk. My DS has the same problem.

However, DD loves milk and in an ideal world would only ever buy or use greentop milk fresh from the farm.

You can buy Milk with the lactose removed, I use the Arla one, it keeps very well too. I sometimes have one open for over a week and it still stays fresh.

Skimmed for everything, but it's really hard to get it lately. This week I had to go to 3 supermarkets before I found any

We get ours from Aldi or Sainsburys, we have never have a problem getting it.

For cooking, I use full fat Asturiana milk.

I do not drink milk and my husband likes semi - Asturiana Milk as he enjoys his coffee with semi ..

I only buy when cooking a pastry that requires milk or a sauce ..

I only have an Italian Espresso (Lavazza) in the morning with a "pan tomaca" which is a piece of bread toasted and served with Extra virgin olive oil and a grated small tomato.

Weekends, a croissant out .. or Churros (fritters) with a hot chocolate at "Gines Chocolateria" which is the oldest in the Madrid Capital .. (since 1874). Close to Plaza Mayor.

I always had skimmed on my cereal and in my coffee.

I was put off by full fat milk at my infants school, when they used to warm it up in the winter in those little bottles. Yuck!!!

But now I have oat 'milk' no sugars.

SallyatBaytree Thu 22-Feb-24 11:41:35

I always buy skimmed UHT milk..which actually tastes like semiskimmed fresh milk. its not as 'thin' as fresh skimmed milk.
A habit from my days living miles from nearest shops and ensuring milk for childrens cereal -although i used to buy UHT whole milk then.
I continue for convenience, and also recollections of my Slimming World days when skimmed is allowed without accumulating Syns!!!

The countries where low fat dairy products are consumed in abundance have higher incidence of heart disease than countries where full fat products are preferred. We’ve been brainwashed into thinking that fat is evil, whereas in truth is seems to protect us from some health problems such as osteoporosis. Full fat milk, not homogenised, from the local dairy farm (in glass) is delicious and infinitely preferable to the chalky water sold in supermarkets.

I had to buy full fat today as the local Asda only had large full fat. I normally buy semi-skimmed. One thing I found is that full fat can be diluted with some water, becoming thinner which for me is better in tea.

In Spain you can have coffee with condensed milk. (not good for weight watchers!) and it's delicious. Or just the condensed milk is good...(hence the need to WW)

it has to be full fat, semi skimmed just tastes like water downed milk, i drink a lot of boiled milk because of bowel problems, my mum only buys cravendale but i think it has a strange taste.

I use skimmed milk as we like large milky coffees in the morning and my husband has been advised to avoid saturated fat. I'm so used to it now that I find semi skimmed or whole milk are too greasy, particularly in tea.
I do use full-fat if I'm making batter or egg custard though.

grandtanteJE65 Thu 22-Feb-24 13:01:00

I don't drink milk, because what is sold now as full-fat milk bares no resemblance to the milk sold when I was a child and did drink milk. However, for cooking, baking, making cacoa I use full-fat milk and would never dream of using anything else.

I likewise buy full-fat yoghurt, cheese etc. not having a problem with putting on weight - my problem is not losing it!

I drink buttermilk for preference and sometimes add cream to it, and put cream the thicker the better in my coffee.

We used to get semi-skimmed, but when DH was recovering from his oesophagectomy the dietician advised him to have lots of rich food as he had lost weight and needed to re-establish normal eating.
We went on having full-fact milk, it is much nicer on cereal and for cooking. And we went back to butter.
DH had a very good quality of life until he died 11 years later at the age of 87. And my weight hasn't changed at all.
But I am beginning to have a problem with dairy food with regard to cattle and methane.

SueEH Thu 22-Feb-24 13:14:37

I’m soya 🤣 I can’t abide cows’ milk. I’m not allergic to it but quite intolerant and don’t like how it makes me feel. I try to use soya yogurt but am ok with none full fat, and don’t eat much cheese.

Astitchintime Thu 22-Feb-24 13:18:15

Semi-skimmed here but I do like full fat when I am making a mild pudding.
Maybe I should revert to full fat all the time for the A. and D vitamins that it contains - I am in the early stages of osteoporosis.

4allweknow Thu 22-Feb-24 13:41:19

Semi skimmed all the way unless cooking and recipe requires otgerwise. Full fat is just to fatty/oily texture for me.

Annma Thu 22-Feb-24 13:52:20

We have semi skimmmed milk because it is lower in fat than whole milk.Skimmed milk is a bit thin, full fat is the tastiest.I must admit homemade rice pudding made with Jersey milk is sumptuous.

Gwenisgreat Thu 22-Feb-24 14:14:51

I'm a no milk fan!

undines Thu 22-Feb-24 15:02:37

Full fat. It's the natural product. Take out the fat and the body cannot metabolise some of the nutrients, for instance calcium, I believe. The health 'problems' that have been associated with full fat are questionable, according to many professionals. All this messing with nature is, in my opinion, one of many causes of food intolerances, allergies and other ills

Milest0ne Thu 22-Feb-24 15:36:35

Our school milk supply was stopped when there was a radiation leak at Sellafield resulting all milk in the area being destroyed. We had Horlicks tables as a substitute. I never liked horlicks since.
I have heard that milk is better than water for rehydration after exercise .

Missiseff Thu 22-Feb-24 16:28:38

Semi-skimmed, I care about my arteries

Saggi Thu 22-Feb-24 16:33:33

40 years of setting a good example to kids and grandkids and now I’ve gone back to full cream……glorious

Amalegra Thu 22-Feb-24 16:36:16

I always drink skimmed milk as I don’t like the rich creamy taste of full fat or semi in my hot drinks. Don’t like any sort of milk cold. Use semi or full fat for cooking. The calcium content is actually higher in skimmed milk which is useful post menopause or on certain medications. I accept that other vitamins etc may be missing from skimmed but I can make them up by eating other things. Often just a question of taste isn’t it? I’m a little tired of being told what we should and shouldn’t be eating/drinking! The aim is a good balanced diet, surely, which can be achieved in various ways to keep you healthy!

62Granny Thu 22-Feb-24 16:45:03

We use the BOB milk ( best of both) it is skimmed milk but tastes like Semi, it also froths when we use the frothing wand on our coffee maker, which normal skimmed milk doesn't. DH has it with his porridge and We both have an occasional glass. We don't like normal skimmed milk. If we are out for a coffee , I don't think to ask for a "skinny" version and just take what is given.

TillyWhiz Thu 22-Feb-24 16:52:53

I grew up on a farm, drinking full fat Jersey milk. I wasn't so keen on it when the cows were in the kale field because I swore I could taste it in the milk. I drank my school milk and anybody else's if they didn't want it! In my adult life, I drank semi skimmed milk on my breakfast cereal and in my tea and coffee. 3 years ago I became dairy intolerant - all of it. So now I use oatmilk. And I so miss the cream teas, the cheeses, the cream cakes ...
