Good Morning . Have any of you used the pharmacist to prescribe for a UTI ? was it any easier than waiting for a doc appt ? Did you have to take a sample ?
I am rather used to UTI's I know what antibiotic I'm usually prescribed and I know the symptoms to a T.
I suppose my question is, would it be easier to contact the doctor's or would it be like ten thousand questions if I go to the pharmacy ? Advice please !

I had a UTI last week, like you I recognised the symptoms from previous infections.

As I had to go into town I decided to pop into Boots and see if I could get a prescription. I remembered the antibiotic I was prescribed last time.

The Pharmacist asked my age and when I told him he said he can only prescribe to people aged 16-64. You will have to contact your Doctor.

So it took me all of last week to get a prescription from my GP and started them on Tuesday.

Thanks for your reply CathyO4.
In the end I called the surgery and a doctor rang me back and I was lucky enough to get a script sent straight to the pharmacy.
I think if the pharmacists are going to take on these responsibilities then the public should be informed if there are certain cut off points or rules surrounding what they can and can't do within that list. It's ok them saying 'We can treat UTI's' well in your case they couldn't and because of that you had lost time which you could have spent contacting your surgery. Hmm, and they say things are getting easier !!!
Hope you are feeling better now .
