Saw GP today after hip x-ray and was informed I needed hip surgery...am not surprised at this outcome as have so much pain in walking..has anyone had this diagnosis ..GP said basically my hips are 'buggered' as both hip joints are bone on bone.-referred me for surgery- am not sure of which type of surgery and would appreciate any GNs who have had this diagnosis as really need to understand what my options are and any comments/advice are welcome..

I can't wait for the surgery..know its mad but am desperate to move/walk without needing to stop/scream, swear or cry -can't go private as do not have the finances- will keep doing lotto grin

I hope you can have the op soon Bea65. I still remember standing in the shower the day after the op and marvelling at the feeling of just no pain!

Hi Bea65.

Just read through from your original post and my heart goes out to you! Just before my hip surgery 3 years ago, I found a very helpful website: bonesmart.org.

It has lots of information from pre-surgery, through the recovery period and you can post questions and/or read about the experience of others.

One of the most useful things I got from it was a reminder that, post-surgery, you're in recovery, not in training, so don't overdo any exercises that you feel are a bit too much for you.

Good luck - and just hang on in there!

I second Bonesmart. I found it absolutely invaluable throughout my recoveries from knee and hip replacements.

I think I will need one soon - hip replacement I mean -my right hip hurts when I walk, but I am postponing seeing the GP - I’m a coward .

Go for it CrazyH. It's only going to get worse unfortunately.

crazyH don't leave it as Aveline said it will get worse..thought i ONLY needed a new knee joint..those of us who have severe widespread OA and have had falls/accidents it really impacts your life ..have become a bit of a hermit..

See your doctor and get it checked. There’s a long queue in front of you crazy, so better to be on it than not. You can always decline the offer when it’s your turn, , but you may be desperate by then.

So had my 1st appt. with surgeon today who on showing me the x-ray results informed me that i have spinal stenosis also..
great ...so the plan is now to have MRI to see how severe this is and if its the main reason for the lumbar pain.
Have any GNs had this diagnosis alongside the bilateral hip sclerosis ? Am researching madly but would like to know of any personal experiences on here...Thank you!
