How to stop pee-ing so often!

I've been having various treatments over the last couple of years, as I get up 4 or 5 times a night to pee. I've tried 'jude' supplements and have had 2 rounds of bladder botox with increasing strengths, to no avail.

I'm now using amytriptiline and have been on it for months now with no effect.

As I'm recovering from hip replacement surgery, getting up so many times is painful and inconvenient. In addition, it seems like when I go to lie down for a rest, I can doze for an hour, then I need to pee!

Fed up of not drinking caffeine, no red wi e, no alcohol, but keep drinking lots of water which makes me pee anyway.

Does anyone know if I can sort this out? I'm 60 and in menopause.

TIA

Everyone is different. I shared a room on a U3A trip with a lady who only went once a day!

I’ve been seeing a physiotherapist regarding this problem, in my case a weak pelvic floor - so pelvic floor exercises and a review every 6 weeks. It’s hard work but I think should help eventually.

Just a tip when emptying your bladder. When you think it’s empty give a little cough, there’s always more there lurking.
Works for me!

Also lean forward this tips the bladder and more urine comes out .

If you sit for a while after you have finished, it just carries on dripping, a bit at a time, every minute or two.

Im on Migabegron 50mg. It has been life changing for me. Before I couldnt walk for 10 mins without needing the loo and was up 4 times a night. Now, I can walk for an hour and get up maximum once a night.

Just watch your BP on those, sent my BP sky high

ftm , ask your doctor about Vagirux. I was up every two hours through the night for ages and almost as bad during the day- it's exhausting!! Vagirux has changed my life. Good luck.

I used to have a problem when coughing etc but not since I have been practicing Pilates, if that be of any help for some less serious cases.

I’m afraid that drinking less in the evening doesn’t help sad

I tend to agree. When we had that lovely hot weather a few weeks ago I needed a couple of long, cold drinks after our evening meal. Now I try not to drink after 6.30ish and wee just as much.

and I was hospitalised with a kidney stone,, it was agony.. so I do drink water during the night.. and try to force myself to drink regularly during the day as well.. I'd rather have to get up during the night than face another kidney stone..

Is it urgent when you do rise to urinate?
If it's urgent may be either due to a weak pelvic floor muscle, or alternatively due to very acid urine and-or sensitivity .

Certainly no coffee or tea after about 7PM.

A full rectum may be causing pressure.

I wondered if I should eat my main meal earlier in the day. Maybe my kidneys are processing my evening meal?

Surely 2 litres should be made up from what you actually drink and liquid in foods.

One cause of this is the water sits in the cells of your legs etc and your circulation doesn't get it to the kidneys until you lie down. Anyone with oedema or swelling of the ankles will know how the legs and ankles are not as puffy in the morning as in the evening. So supposing you could put your feet up or even lie down in the evening to watch TV or whatever, then you might have a chance the excess water will have got through your kidneys before you go to sleep

So would using a Revitive help with that? I do keep thinking about buying one.

I think it's just down to gravity. Especially as we get older and our circulations are not as good. Fluid wants to sink to the lowest point it can and stay there.

Because of my condition - IBS - I fast from 6p.m. to 6 a.m. and drink as much as I can in the earlier part of the day, mostly water or tea but aim for 2 litres and nothing after 6 p.m. It seems to work for me. I take a glass of water to bed and if thirsty, I just sip on sipful. Hope you find a resolution.

I just accept this now and can tell the time each time I wake. As it only happens at night I put it down to my bowel prolapse pressing on the bladder when I lie down.

It quite the same but I have a massive abdominal hernia and every time I stand up, my bowels bounce on my bladder and I have to go NOW or it’s too late!!

Update: apparently, after calling my consultant's secretary and then getting through to the GP surgery (took 2 days!), I have now been referred back to my original consultant.

Turns out that the NHS in its wisdom, has cancelled the contract that allowed me to see a consultant at the local private clinic under the NHS, BUT there is now another contract in place (which in effect is exactly the same, but renamed - God bless the NHS) and I have been re-referred back to the same clinic.

However, I'll now have to wait a few more months to see him again.

I'll note down all your suggestions to ask at my next appointment.

Thanks all. I'll update you soon I hope!

Urine infections UTIs and diabetes can be the reason for frequent urination.

I had weekend bladder after spinal anaesthetic when I had hip replacement in December. doctor prescribed 2mg ofTolterodine Tartrate which I have to take once in morning and again in evening. I still have to get up couple of times a night but I do make sure my bladder is empty every time I go.

3 times between waking at about 8.30am and going to bed about 9pm - and then, about 3am

ftm420 Tue 29-Oct-24 22:52:37

Just to add more context, I can't use anything oestrogen related due to a history of breast cancer. I dont have diabetes, am not overweight and don't snore or have sleep apnoea. Pelvic floor is strong and kidney function is normal.

When I wake at night I do try to go back to sleep but just have to get up. I don't leak so am not incontinent.

MayBee70 Tue 29-Oct-24 23:22:00

The Jason Stephenson get back to sleep fast on utube gets me back to sleep. I’m going to listen to it now as I’ve got to get up early tomorrow and I can never sleep if I know I’ve got an early start.

I found that I needed to go to the loo more & more often, which was inconvenient as I was a gardener. I then realised that I was obsessing & becoming neurotic about it! So I took myself in -hand
as I realised it was just a tiny amount of wee each time.
This mind-set really helped me as well as being just a little careful about how much fluid I drank. Now I can go without a wee for ages & it's such a relief! (excuse the pun)
I didn't want end -up like my mother who could wee for England and Saint George.😊

I am just recovering from a prolapse cystocele operation the other day. The bladder needed re positioning to its correct place. I had been waking every two hours or so, it was ruining my life as I was so tired. This may be worth investigating, though obviously your problem is nit necessarily the same as mine. I am 69 if that’s relevant, so meno long past.
