Time between cataract ops

On the NHS how long have people waited for the NHS to do a second cataract operation on their other eye. I am very short sighted but the prescription in both eyes is very different -8 in one eye (the one with the bad cataract) and -6 in the other. I am worried that when they do the -8 eye it will be sometime before they do the other one. I need glasses for both reading and distance so I will be very unbalanced with just one eye corrected, in fact I will not be able to do very much at all. I know if you can afford to go private which I cannot, they usually do the other eye very quickly.

A month between for me on NHS Iwas -12 with a macula hole in one eye amazing how the brain manages and even covering one eye your new good eye will work perfectly for you
I had no problem at all

It’s generally at least 3 months. It also depends on how advance the other cataract is.
I’m having my second one done nearly two years apart.

About 15 minutes for me! - they were both done on the same day with no problems.

Everyone I know has had them done within a month grandemattie but even if more don’t worry truman the brain will sort it out and if needed the newly done good eye will work for both eyes perfectly well

Time between operations depends on how advanced the cataracts are. You also do not need to worry about imbalance between eyes. It is usual for someone with short sight to have a lens put in their eye that both treats your cataract and also corrects your eye prescription, so after the operation, your treated eye may well no longer need a prescription lens for disatnce looking, although you will probably still need reading glasses.

My eyes were respectively -8.5 and -5.4. The -8.5 eye developed a cataract first. The surgeon put in a prescription lensthat reduced my prescription in that eye from -8.5 to -2.0.

The cataract in my other eye took longer to develop and was not treated for another 6 years. that too was replaced with a prescription lens, that means most of the time I no longer wear glasses.
