Time between operations depends on how advanced the cataracts are. You also do not need to worry about imbalance between eyes. It is usual for someone with short sight to have a lens put in their eye that both treats your cataract and also corrects your eye prescription, so after the operation, your treated eye may well no longer need a prescription lens for disatnce looking, although you will probably still need reading glasses.
My eyes were respectively -8.5 and -5.4. The -8.5 eye developed a cataract first. The surgeon put in a prescription lensthat reduced my prescription in that eye from -8.5 to -2.0.
The cataract in my other eye took longer to develop and was not treated for another 6 years. that too was replaced with a prescription lens, that means most of the time I no longer wear glasses.
